No news on satellite camps, and Saban has been paying players for years (so Harbs still has some catching up to do).

Such a dilemma for Saban: Do I want to start the #1 Edge from the 2021 class or the #1 Edge from the 2022 class? Or maybe the #1 Edge from the 2023 class? What? I also have the #2 Edge from the 2022 class as well? I haven't cut him yet?

The situation you just described may be why Saban is allegedly now emphasizing the in-game competition more. I imagine a lot of these 5 star kids come in there thinking their PT is pre-ordained. Motivation must be a constant big challenge for coaches like Saban, who have so much talent and only so many snaps to dole out. Maybe we're seeing the same effects at the school down south?

I think Michigan should recruit kids that are stacked deep on the Bama and Georgia recruiting boards. For instance Georgia signed 5 of the top 10 linebackers in last years class. Recruit the bottom 3 hard because most likely 2 of them will be transferring.

I realized the NCAA was screwed up many years ago.
When they restricted the location of camps a school could host - it was evident they favored the SEC and ACC.
Bama used to bring in and pay former players - who didn’t make NFL rosters - to practice against the current Bama team. Oh, eventually the NCAA said that was a “no no”.
Can you name the last time Bama’s team talent wasn’t in the Top Two nationally?
It’s a trick question - since 2015 (as far back as the 247 Team Talent Composite data that I can access goes) - Bama’s never fielded a team with a talent level lower than second. In six of the last eight years - they’ve had the most talented roster in college football.
Saban… brown bagging… Chargers in the parking lot.. this is the tip of the iceberg.

Michigan is my team because I grew up in A2 in the 70’s when the fan base wasn’t so whiney and privileged thinking. I live in Alabama now and the Auburn and Alabama fan bases aren’t such big babies when it comes to losing games or recruits.

The Bama and Auburn Fan Bases are crazy for their teams and hate to lose. Football in the south is way more important to the population than football in the north. High School and College. Yet Auburn and Alabama fans don’t freaking whine like the Michigan fan base when things don’t go their way.

Our University recruited like this for exactly one year -The Fab Five. Our basketball team was jettisoned into the vacuum of space for a decade. To be recruiting Fab 25 teams for two decades is uh.. well come on you know better. No proof of any cash payoffs to get recruits - it’s all hogwash.
The soft Michigan fans have a hard time digesting that so they make excuses and make accusations with zero proof.

You make it sound like it’s a Michigan only thing. I read different fan boards for recruiting news and the one thing they all seem to have in common is blaming the bag man for recruiting misses.

Bag men or not, it’s basically legal now so if Alabama falls behind and is no longer a perennial playoff team, we can argue whether their success was due to paying recruits or if it was just a coincidence that theirs ended once all teams were doing it. I would agree that if any program didn’t have to pay recruits, it would be Alabama. Their program offers everything the other schools do in terms of success and putting guys in the league, but they are on a level by their own (although Georgia may be taking over soon, if they haven’t already).
