Ryan Hayes has accepted a Senior Bowl invitation.

I suppose this means he will not be returning.

I suppose so. I guess that means he got some encouraging word about the draft. Good for him but Persi could have used another year to become the major force he probably will be.

Persi is in his third year. Putting the COVID eligibility confusion aside for a moment, that would make him a RS sophomore. Becoming a starter as a RS junior doesn't seem premature at all. We can probably expect improvement next year and the following year (unless he blows up and leaves early), but he's probably not too far from his ceiling at this point.

There will be some turnover on the line but I think we will still have a strong group next season. I’m going to guess that Keegan goes and Zinter stays, which is just a guess.

LT: Persi/Barnhart

LG: El Hadi/Atteberry

C: Crippen/Anderson

RG: Zinter/Atteberry

RT: Jones/Barnhart

Zinter has 2 more years of eligibility. There is definitely a change, even a good chance he returns. He's basically a RS Sophomore right now.

I expect Zinter and Keegan to both return for another year.

Crippen will start at C. Jones at RT. Barnhart and Persi will battle at LT unless we find a transfer via the Olu Oluwatimi route (which would be my hope because I'd like to see Persi move into the starting role in '24, one more year of improvement ala Crippen this season).

Anyway, no way can you bank on Zinter leaving. He'll have a decision but he's not a lock either way.

Hayes was always gone, as is Olu.

I agree...it's not farfetched.  He'd get drafted, but he could return and work his way into that late late first round/2nd round range.

NIL could play a role as well. I was just saying it's not a lock either way and that if you asked me...I'd have him back for his senior year. But I don't see him saying for both of the years he has left.

It is probably less the Zinter comment and more the Anderson > Crippen. Crippen has received a ton of hype and not sure I have heard any for Anderson yet.

In regards to Keegan vs Zinter leaving early, anything is possible. Zinter grades out better and has more upside. Keegan is older but has missed a decent amount of time the last two years with little injuries. I find it best to assume both will leave and if either (or both!) come back it will be an awesome surprise.

Wouldn't be surprised if that was the plan...and of course things can change.

But apparently he's been hurt since week 2 or 3 (which makes sense because he was out early when El-Hadi was getting time). Sounds like he needs surgery and he'll rehab, play his final year and then go pro.

WATCHLIST:
Guys who have a decision to make (whether that be NFL or transfer portal).

*This is not a projection for anyone except McNamara, Corum, Bell, Smith, and Morris - those are the only "locks", IMO. Schoonmaker and Upshaw would be next (Turner would have been but he's struggled at times), but you never know. Everyone else will just be someone I keep an eye on. Due to COVID, there are a few free 5th and 6th years*

Not denying this...it's a prediction. But what are you basing your prediction on?

That would be a pretty big jump to replace 2 "starters" and another guy who started at Rutgers when Hayes was out for a game.

He also hasn't play LT all year, and Jones doesn't play LT either. So presumably he'd be starting over Barnhart and Jones at RT.

He’s earned it. He had some ups and downs last year (Penn St pass pro comes to mind), but he’s been solid as a rock when he’s been in this year.

I wouldn’t be surprised by Zinter’s decision either way. He’s on the NFL’s radar for sure.

As long as Moore is still here coaching them I’m confident that the O-line, even with a likely step backwards, will still be one of the best in the B1G next year.
