Rutgers dismisses 5 players, 3 starters

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Those 5 Rutgers players that were arrested the other day have been kicked off the team.

Ruhann Peele: second string CB with an "OR"

Rahzonn Gross: second string FB

Delon Stephenson: starting FS

Andre Boggs: starting CB

Nadir Barnwell: starting CB

Daryl Stephenson: as of right now, Daryl is referred to as both a current and former student at Rutgers in the above article.  He is a former player, having elected not to return for his final year of elgibility.

Kyle Flood was at least out in front of it - if not mixed up a bit in it because the player he allegedly made inquiries about was Barnwell, as I recall - and saying that he believed this had brought the team closer together and that they would be ready despite recent adversity.

So of course they've just gone down 7-0 to Norfolk State - it is early yet in the game though.

It's not so much about this as much as it is that Rutgers is an all around horrible addition to the Big Ten. They offer nothing of note athletically, and their academics can't even be a saving grace like it is with Northwestern.

UConn would've been a much better addition. You get the NY market, and at least they have something to offer athletically. Awesome basketball school. And I'm assuming the academics are at least as good as Rutgers.

This is one of the few times I can come to the defense of Delaney and his clown haircut. Sure UConn and Syracuse are similar alternatives.

Personally, I'm glad we have Rutgers on the schedule. The three game stretch prior to Rutgers is tough. Northwestern and Michigan State at home, then at Minnesota.

No, Syracuse is not the top team, not even close. Per Nate Silver, Rugers is by far the number one draw in the  NYC TV market:

New Jersey also produces as many football recruits as Michigan and Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, New York and Connecticut are among the least fertile football recruiting territories in the country. Syracuse and UConn are fine schools but  neither is AAU. Yes they have top notch basketball programs but if you follow conference realignment that carries zero weight. Add it up and Rutgers was EASILY the best choice of the three.

I have a completely irrational hate for that program. They got really mouthy when they beat us last year. With every other team on the schedule I'll take any sort of win, good, bad, or ugly, and be completely satisfied with it. But Rutgers? I want them to get beaten so badly that their players have PTSD whenever they see the letter M for the rest of their lives.

If I remember correctly wasn't both the CBs in question at Big Ten media days representing Rutgers. Can't remember which one but I remember one of the cornerbacks actually could have left early for the NFL draft but elected to stay for Sr year. Am I remembering this right??

They must have impressed Flood with their speaking abilities. I mean, sure, anyone can say "nobody move!" or "stay calm and no one gets hurt!" But saying it loud and clear so everybody understands, that takes talent.

Would prefer an Eastern conference with uconn cuse ped st pitt bc nova wva umd etc..that uconn nova game was awesome. but RU is really above um in the standings once again? Is it true the wolverine staff makes 10x more money than rutgizz' staff? Will um even be favored against lowly RUTgIZZX this year in Ann arbor? Will Jim harbaugh turn Jake rudick into Andrew luq? Can you still buy houses in Detroit for 500 dollars?
