Rutgers -- Believes There is an Ongoing Beef Between Flood and Harbaugh
Rutgers' beat writers believe that there is a beef between Flood and Harbaugh. I'm sure Harbaugh couldn't care less about Flood, but apparently, the Rutgers side thinks that Harbaugh was running up the score (even though he put in all the backups with 11 minutes left in the 4th quarter). They've likened it to the Carroll/Harbaugh and Schwartz/Harbaugh spats, however, this seems to be one of those stories that are just in their minds and Harbaugh doesn't care about Flood. Michigan simply wanted to shut Rutgers down and they did so in the second half - strictly business.
Harbaugh said his decision was influenced solely by the two-point conversion chart, which seemed disingenuous considering the size of Michigan's lead and the amount of time remaining in the game. Harbaugh's true motive was later revealed by his players, who said he was incensed by trash talk from Rutgers players on the way into the locker room at halftime.
Flood was asked about the situation Sunday on his weekly postgame teleconference.
"I think if there's something Coach Harbaugh wants me to know, then he'll say it to me," Flood said. "The other stuff, I won't comment on."
In addition, Flood apparently tried to poke fun at Harbaugh by saying that the deceptive trick play that was called back was ironic because John Harbaugh lost to the Pats due to a trick play. Apparently, Flood gets to take credit for the Pats somehow (because a few Rutgers' former players are on the Pats?? Uhh, have they heard about Tom Brady??)...
Flood was asked about a play late in the first half when Michigan tight end Jake Butt appeared to substitute out of the game, but instead lined up along the sideline. No Rutgers defender noticed Butt and he was wide-open for a pass from Jake Rudock for a big gain. But the play was called back and Michigan was assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for "intent to deceive."
Asked about the play after the game, Flood made an interesting reference.
"I didn't think it was legal," Flood said. "I thought the officials did a good job officiating the play and to some degree, maybe some irony with what happened with his brother in the playoffs last year with New England and Baltimore, maybe."
Jim Harbaugh's brother, John, is the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. The New England Patriots, who happen to have a strong Rutgers pipeline, used an unusual — but legal — formation to confound the elder Harbaugh brother in last season's NFL playoffs. The play had absolutely nothing to do with the Rutgers-Michigan game, so it was interesting that Flood decided to mention an embarrassing moment for one Harbaugh brother moments after losing to the other brother's team by 33 points.

Yes, always running. From his own latent homosexuality, and now, from Scientology as well...

If the best your opponent can say is "ha your brother's team had several yards gained against them last year when the opposing team used the same play you just unsuccessfully attempted while beating us by 33 points," yes, that's good.

For Rutgers, like Illinois, we will be there number one rival.
For us Rutgers, like Illinois, will always be basically a speedbump in our schedule. They shouldn't even be in the B1G but for the greed of Jim Delaney & Co.

Among other reasons, it's because Flood is soon to be an O-Line coach at some woebegone FBS school

Did Rutgers beatwriters somehow manage to liken themselves to USC under Pete Carroll?
USC and Carroll were a target. Rutgers and Flood are an afterthought.

This seems like a conspiracy created by inventive rather than informative minds. In any case, It's Rutgers, and we move on.

They had a difference of opinion. Harbaugh actually makes his players go to class and doesn't pressure the professors into changing their grades.

It goes without saying that I have barely concealed contempt for MSU and OSU - they're sister-diddling low-rent cooler-pooping goons, blah blah blah. But, even in spite of all that, at least they belong in the Big Ten conference.
Can anyone here argue that Rutgers does?
November 8th, 2015 at 9:29 PM ^
No, but the recruits in their backyard do.
Whatever makes New Jersey "Big Ten Country" and Michigan a "local" school in the minds of recruits who live there, works for me.

So, while he hasn't come right out and declared a feud with Jim Harbaugh, Flood has sent a few barbs in the Michigan coach's direction in the 24 hours since Rutgers' 49-16 loss to the Wolverines on Saturday.
A coach whose time at Rutgers could very well be short is going to be pointed with a coach who beat his team by 33 points. That's an excellent, effective strategy that I am sure will yield results for Rutgers.

than just that. Mike White was Illinois head coach. Many believed he recruited improperly off the field and on the field taught his kids how to block players at the knees.

Flood is gonna get fired. Rutgers fans literally have raised $3000+ in a GoFundMe to get him fired.

And if by some miracle he survives, Michigan will visit Rutgers next year and run up the score even more then.
