Rutgers' Kyle Flood may be in some trouble
Hot off the presses. NJ.com reports that Flood is under investigation for a potential rules violation related to impermissible contact. Sounds like he may have tried to lean on a professor for a player who needed grades.
Update: Flood fires back.

to seriously dislike Rutgers.

This is probably a non-issue that will blow over without any type of punishment. But I'm sure Rutgers fan will blame all their shortcomings this year on this "scandal" like they did on the Mike Rice thing.

Then nothing will happen at Rutgers. Everyone knows that only teams in the SWAC and MEAC get the hammer the NCAA. They don't cover their lies and lawyer up as well.

Wait a second, why is the onus on the coach and not, I dunno, the student, to reach out to the prof to see if anything could be done?

Who cares?
It's not like Rutgers is in the Big Ten.
Wait . . . what?

It's probably fine. I get in trouble for "impermissable contact" all the time.

Corruption in New Jersey? Bah....

I'm sure the NCAA will get around to this in 2029 when they figure out how to handle UNC.

As soon as they open that can of worms.

According to the terms of the contract he signed when he became Rutgers head coach on Jan. 31, 2012, Flood could be terminated for cause or disciplined without pay for "willful misconduct, act(s) of moral turpitude, conduct tending to bring shame or disgrace to the University as determined by'' university officials, or in "violation of university regulations, policies (or) procedures.''
If this is in a clause in a contract signed and on file at Rutgers, then Flood may have to try a lot harder than e-mailing a professor if we're talking about canning him. He's way behind on the "shame and disgrace" curve as it is there right now. Of course, it is Rutgers, so judgment and scale are out the window here.

Everything I have ever heard was that he was a great guy and went out of his way to connect with people that could use some help. I can't say anything about this particular incident, but until I see something that is actually inappropriate, I will hold back judgment. Rumors of impermissible contact and leaning on professors is a lot different from actual improprieties.
You can make fun of Rutgers for being Rutgers, but let's have at least a moments pause before attacking a man's integrity based on internet rumors. If the facts support the allegation, have fun.

That's why I added Flood's rebuttal to the OP. It sounds like whatever contact there was will show up in an email trail, so depending on what the investigation finds, Flood may be vindicated just as decisively as he would be convicted.

I want to believe that in some shadowy, smoke filled room this professor is kissing the ring of Greg Schiano. "I've done everything I could to take out that mook Flood so we could retake our territory Gregfather"
