Root for Losses

This is going to pain a lot of you, as I expect to get downvoted to heck.

I know it will. As fans, especially Michigan fans, we want our team to win all the time. When they step on the field, we expect the best and to run the opponent off the field.

This has gone the way of how I felt about RR at the end. This team needs to lose. The administration needs to realize that it is time to clean house. Recruiting is going to fall in the short term; it does not matter.

Michigan football is cooked. They need a hard reset with a coach who understands football in 2020 and can bring this lifeless program forward. Winning games at this point will put that prospect on hold.

As a Lions fan, it's been pretty easy to do over the years as they continue to search for a successful coach/GM. It hasn't been the easiest as a Michigan fan.

Root for the losses.

Correct. I don't know that Michigan's administration cares much about football. Michigan's AD cares, but "wants to do things right." They think Harbaugh does things right. I'm hoping that Harbaugh will at least clean house and bring in new blood. Brown seems to have lost it. Gattis is a new coordinator and needs a mentor or a demotion.

Upvote from me.  We need losses to provide clarity.  Preferably, blowout losses.

I'm becoming increasingly optimistic that we'll see action before the season is done.

No.  I will never root for Michigan to lose a game.  This is not what a fanbase does.

The eyeballs tell us it’s time for a change.  They don’t need 3 more losses to tell me that.

Seems counter-intuitive. We're frustrated because Harbaugh has failed to live up to the standards we expect from a coach who can draw quality athletes to Michigan.

If he were doing a better job and winning games like this easily, we wouldn't want a new coach. At any rate, he's gone if he doesn't beat OSU. And if he does beat OSU, we might want him to stick around. It doesn't matter one bit what happens between now and then, so I'd rather have wins.

Stupid ass take. Root for the athletes, and the athletes want to win. It’s not about your bullshit pride in UM football.

So when Rich Rod was at the end, if he would won a few and that kept him around, would that have been best for the program?

Time to look at the big picture. I know its painful- it is. Harbaugh's done here. I want what will get him out of town the quickest. Winning games jeopardizes that.

Winning or losing doesn’t have any impact on what happens. If Harbaugh leaves, he leaves, and if anything I doubt he leaves on a serious losing note, but he’s not getting fired in this anomalous, shortened season. So you might as well hope they win and enjoy the wins if they do.

And it isn’t painful. I have no rooting interest for this or any coach. It’s just the reality of the situation. And to root for loses is stupid and counterproductive.

You are 100% incorrect. Harbaugh won’t be fired here unless the program has consecutive .500 or sub seasons. You’d know better than that if you listened to the AD and boosters.

He very well may leave, but there are no inclinations within the AD to fire him. So your idea is indeed a stupid ass take that only hurts the program.

Stop with the 100% crap. Harbaugh will leave on his own, unless he beats OH State.

He's got a great 2021 recruiting class-so far. That too can change.

You don't change coaches like you change a battery in your car and then just drive off. A major coaching staff change is much more complex than that.

Who gives a shit about his recruiting class? He can't make players better. I am convinced he could bring in the #1 class over the span of 4 years and turn them into 3-stars at the college level.

I have no clue what your last statement means. It's fucking football, it's not calculus. Fire coach, search for coach, hire new coach, start new regime. Don't make it sound like it's super complicated.

I know you guys want blood but I just don't think you can fire anyone during this pandemic season. Too many mitigating circumstances; to me it doesn't even really count its just a extended spring season. I don't expect things to get better and logically you make hard decisions now rather than put them off, but I think UM has to wait until next year.

And for some of the responses, I'm not surprised. A lot of the "I would never root for Michigan to lose."

That's fine. Let's do a little thought experiment:

Option A: Team wins a few more games that they should and gets blown out from OSU, maintain Harbaugh.

Option B: Team loses every game, Harbaugh leaves.

I would laugh if you chose option A because you have this silly pride. It happens ALL THE TIME in sports when the coaches just simply do not have it, and delaying the inevitable is useless.

If losses push this AD and administration to wake up, that's what I fucking want.

With you my friend. I felt no emotion or commitment to this team today. Indiana is the better team and MSU just got curbstompted by a winless Iowa team. We’re going to get housed by OSU bigtime, and embarrassingly so.

You're not a Michigan football fan if you root for losses. Not fair to the players. You support them, so you then support their coaches.

Agreed that this season went up in smoke or out the window. Things will change soon after the season ends.
