Recruiting Team Rankings - UM now 5th on 247 composite......
"IF" (or when) Michigan lands Kareem Walker 2morow, we will have the #3 recruiting class with 258.65 points, slightly behind #1 LSU (260.04) and #2 OSU (259.9).
My memory is fading in my old age, but i believe we will be at our highest ranking since the stellar 2001 class (Kelly Baraka, Marlin Jackson, Ernest Shazor, Pat Massey etc...).
And where do i get in line to eat crow. I was completely wrong on my gut feeling in regards to Bush.

But even if we count our chickens, there are still a lot of other chickens that should be counted for other teams as well. Lots and lots of highly rated uncommitted recruits out there, many of whom will go to the other teams currently near the top. Not only do all of the teams ahead of us (Bama, OSU, LSU and FSU) have fewer commits than us, but teams below us like USC and UGA have far fewer commits and could make a big jump as they add top talent. That said, staying within the top-5 or so seems quote likely.

According to the Clas calculator on 247 that would make our class number one by a good margin right now.

Although we have a very good talent pool this year with lots of four star recruits and, depending upon the service, numerous three stars very near being categorized as a four star, one item that matters, a lot in my opinon, is the average ranking per player.
In years when the number of recruits that can be taken is small, like what was experienced over the last few years, rankings may not be terribly high, yet the players that choose to play at Michigan, may be tremendously talented.
Having said this, I'm delighted with what Harbaugh and friends have done so far this year. The future indeed looks bright.

At this point, it might actually be more valuable for us to have a large class, even if the average ranking per player is lower. We need stars, for sure, but we also need a large quantity of good players to fix some of the holes in the roster Hoke built. Once Harbaugh gets the machine rolling, then it might be more valuable to have smaller classes with more star power.

Mr. July from ChickenCounters.com disagrees with you....
He has more chicks than he can handle!

A Bush in hand is worth more than a Hand in an earthquake simulator.
or something like that.

With Gary and Walker, #1 class by a decent amount - we would jump to 270.1 - about 10 full points over #2 (with walker, 1 point seperates the top 3)

The only ranking that matters is the ranking at the end of the year.
December 16th, 2015 at 1:26 PM ^
And every single national champion in the BCS/CFP era has been in the top ten in rolling four-year composite recruiting ranking. So if you're worried about the ranking at the end of the year, having a high ranking in February is a great start.

Do not F with people's love of talking crootin or thy will be downvoted!
At least on Mgoblog it's only downvoted - on some sites the punishment for dissing recruiting threads is much much worse!

Fifth with a bullet, with Harbaugh et al. having less than a year to cultivate relationships? Not too shabby. Not shabby at all.

And nobody from Ohio.
Suck it Meyer.
What if they built a wall around Ohio and nobody came?

Ahmir Mitchell is making it seem like there is a 3rd commitment coming sometime this week. If that happens, and we get Walker, we should almost definitely be the #1 composite class.
December 16th, 2015 at 1:20 PM ^
So Walker and who else?

I'd say someone wildly unrealistic here just to be that guy - but we all at least half expect to get the #1 player in the class already, so I don't know how I can get more unrealistic!?
Ray Lewis? Barry Sanders? TOM BRADY!!!!!!??????

The more important thing - I trust Jim knows who can actually ball out on the field. Regardless of rankings this gives optimism.
December 16th, 2015 at 1:15 PM ^
Could not agree more. Not only are these obviously talented kids, but Harbaugh is no dummy when it comes to finding true football players. Can't wait to see these guys take the field with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.
December 16th, 2015 at 1:52 PM ^
Yeah, I believe he's been scouting and recruiting since he was playing in the NFL.
December 16th, 2015 at 2:21 PM ^
we absolutely need a top 5 class if we are actually going to gain ground on OSU. We need to start by stealing Kareem and poaching top talent directly from OSU is obviously the best way to start the competition again.
December 16th, 2015 at 1:16 PM ^
Exactly. If we had a class in the 15-20 range, I'd still feel good about it because of Harbaugh. But having a class in the top-5? Good lawd.
December 16th, 2015 at 1:24 PM ^
I mean, I am SUPER EXCITED about the big names in this class. I am just as excited for the mid-level gems. McKeon? Nate Johnson? Josh Metellus? Those are like the AFTER thoughts of this class.

Hopefully Isaac Nauta is watching and wants to be part of something special.

we would have the top rated player at 4 positions.
Nauta would make a royal flush.
December 16th, 2015 at 2:27 PM ^
Reminds me of our epic recruitng class after the '97 NC. We had the #1 or #2 recruit in something like 5 different positions. Those guys went on to beat Alabama in the Orange bowl.
December 16th, 2015 at 1:16 PM ^
Other teams will move up too as there are still plenty of top 100 talent to be netted but we should have a top 7 class when all is said and done. The ave player rank of the top 4 is pretty ridiculous right now (OSU LSU Bama FSU) in the 91s. Our ave is in the 88s but Walker / Gary certainly would help get that closer to 90.
Not so concerned about 2 spots here or there on rankings - if you have a top 10 class you have the raw material to work with - if its #3 or #7 not going to matter much; need the staff to develop it as we learned from 2012 (#4) and 2013 (#6 class). Thankfully no longer a MAC level staff.
December 16th, 2015 at 1:14 PM ^
Did Harbaugh ever have this quality of a class at Stanford?
December 16th, 2015 at 1:21 PM ^
No. A couple mid 40s, an 18, and the last looks like 25 (according to 247).
December 16th, 2015 at 1:26 PM ^
Stanford's 2009 recruiting class was ranked 15th by Scout. This class will be his best ever.
