Recent Crystal Ball Trends

Submitted by Losher on

Over on 247 there are some interesting trends regarding some fo the Michgian targets, some of which are higher on the want list.

The trends include Naseir Upshur to Florida State, Lavert Hill to Michigan, Tony Butler to Clemson, and a few predictions for Donnie Corely to Michigan. These could be because of some interesting turn of events regarding each of the recruitments, or it could just be analysts following the trends of their peers.

I want Upshur . . . to play for Michigan because I think he would be a nice addition to the Harbaugh offense which utlizes tight ends with a skill set such as his and this may result in touchdowns which may result in more wins which may result in me having an enjoyable time rooting for the team I grew up following.  Sicko.  However I will hump the leg of damn near anything, but that's neither here nor there.

I think we have a legit shot at flipping Hill. And while Corley had a great visit recently, I think there is too much ground to make up for us. And by I, I mean the recruiting analysts.

Am I correct in understanding that once a prospect has committed, no more Crystal Balls may be placed for that school?  ...So for Hill, people can only pick a school other than PSU (such as Michigan.)   No one can jump on the PSU bandwagon, but throwing a UofM pick in there might earn them a few points, if he flips, right?

Not that this means the M picks are meaningless, but I think the trend might hold more weight with the uncommitted prospects rather than the committed ones.  Do I have the proper understanding here?

I believe that is right but he is visiting this weekend, and if the analysts think their is a chance of a flip than thats when i think they make a prediction. otherwise it is just a waste of time and they lose out in the long run on their credibility on site.

I really hoped Jaylen Brown was going to lead to people ignoring the crystal balls, but now I think it's here to stay. 247 has invented the perfect vice for addicts.

Jaylon Brown doesn't prove anything about Crystal Balls other than that they're sometimes wrong, which we already knew. That doesn't make them a bad or uninteresting indicator going forward. I think it's a really good idea. Let a bunch of writers make their "best guess" public. When you read an article and a writer makes a prediction, do you take it as gospel? No, but if you can see a consensus forming you'll probably be interested to see it. The nicest part is you can see who voted and when so you can use your own judgment as to which votes are more credible than others.

their own thread. From Twitter.

2015 RB Jordan Stevenson to Nebraska. Will get to face Wisconsin every year. Coincidence?

2016 OL Gavin Cupp got the OSU offer he wanted. Dantonio pulling his offer didn't matter, but he is the one who would have loved the early signing period, not Cupp.

I think the crystal balls are worthless. "75% have INSERT PLAYER NAME to Michigan!" and "INSERT REGIONAL SCOUTING DIRECTOR NAME is usually spot on!" Of course INSERT PLAYER NAME commits to INSERT ANY SCHOOL BUT MICHIGAN. Forgive me, but I refuse to get excited about trending crystal balls.

I hate crystal balls, but I hate these recruiting writers that then brag about how right their crystal ball pick was. there's one Michigan writer that is awful about his self loving when he is right about pick.
