In an interview at CMU Pro Day, Rawls mentioned Seahawks All-Pro running back Marshawn Lynch as someone he models his style after.

Lynch would be a tough act to follow, of course, but kudos to the people starting threads for those with Michigan connections so that we might stay informed of how their career in the NFL might unfold as well. I just wanted to thank folks for keeping us up on all who have worn the winged helmet.

Uhh...what? First of all, Rawls signed as an undrafted free agent, which is not that great of an accomplishment. Lots of average players sign UDFA deals.

Second, the main reason we haven't been able to run the ball for the past few years is the shoddy play of our offensive line.

Third, running back is one of the most natural positions on the field, perhaps even THE most natural. That's why freshman and rookie running backs step on the field and can have a huge impact immediately.

Fourth, Fred Jackson coached numerous record-setters, high draft picks, etc. The guy didn't forget how to coach, which brings me back to reason #2.

Sure, you didn't say "its not an accomplishment" verbatim.  But saying "its not that great of an accomplishment" and "its not an accomplishment" are just about the same thing.  You just added some extra words in the middle, but the meaning is the same.

If you don't believe me, switch the words "an accomplishment" with "a flattering outfit" and try that on your wife or girlfriend the next time she asks about how she looks.

Do you really think Magnus has girlfriend let alone a wife. The dude runs a Michigan/calendar pin up blog. Me thinks the closest he has to a girlfriend is imagining being with the young ladies on his blog.

Haha I remember when people used the "he didn't forget how to coach" excuse for Rich Rod and Hoke too. Rawls was like 3rd on the depth chart here at one point and same with Michael Cox. Both are now in the NFL. Drake Johnson was clearly our best back last year and nobody knew apparently until the last few games of the season.

Hey, don't disrespect Gino Guidugli! He just finished playing quarterback in the Arena Football League a few years ago, so clearly he knows all there is to know about coaching running backs.

Absolutely.  That was my point.  UDFA's are great, but people acting like Rawls getting a camp invite is proof-positive that Michigan messed up on another RB (as opposed to him just beating the crap out of terrible MAC defenses the way a fringe P5 RB probably should) are just looking for that dead horse to kick again.

our RB coach struggled to find the right best first stringer.  Depth chart buried guys who got carries only through higher string injuries, who then turned out to be better options (with the same OLine), seemed an all too common occurence.

It was obvious as soon as Drake started carrying the ball, he should have had more carries all along as he was obviously more productive. I will say that this may or may not carry out as we see the offensive line improve. But for the situation that the team was in, Fred was not making the best decisions for the performance of the team.

has fresh legs since he didn't play or get hit much at UM. Great time at CMU & HB is still HB in the modern NFL so it wouldn't shock me at all if he made it to the practice squad at the very least. If he embraces a bowling ball style he could be a legit option for a bit. I know a lot if solid HBs went undrafted. In fact, after Gurley & Gordon I wouldn't have taken a HB earlier than the 4th round. Point being that in the right system & on the right team a UDFA HB can produce. Not a revelation but the easiest skill position to find bang for buck.
