Quinten Johnson declares for draft

Well, I don't usually like to go all Ezekiel Creatures on you guys but Quinten Johnson has declared for the draft. I thought the deadline had expired but what do I know?

Lots of guys get picked up as UDFA & go on to longer careers than late round draft picks - because they can choose the best situation for themselves.

My prediction for QJo is his agent has an in with a particular team that has told him they'll sign him if he's not drafted.

Interesting SB related story - that's how the Niners decided to draft Brock Purdy as Mr. Irrelevant. He was tracking towards not getting drafted & his agent called the Niners saying he had an offer from the Vikings to sign him as an UDFA. The agent (obviously having very little respect for Jimmy G or Trey Lance) thought the Shanahan offense was the perfect fit for Brock. He encouraged them to take him with their last pick. The rest is history!

Gonna miss him but with Moore and Paige returning and Sabb coming on in bowl season, it’s good to get younger guys like Berry and Hillman snaps or they portal out.

I feel the same way, but why the fuck does this never apply to OSU? They add Howard and that bama kid and that doesn't lead to any QB transfers besides McCord. They add Judkins and keep Henderson and I haven't heard any rumblings of their younger 5 star RBs transferring. Didn't Dallan Hayden get snaps in 2022 and now he's totally fine sitting as the RB3 as a former 5-star prospect true junior? Like wtf is that about?

We just had a season where multiple people who could have been drafted decided to return for one last shot and we got a title out of it. What are you even talking about that this never applies to OSU? It's pretty clear that they dropped an absolute monster amount of cash because they mentally couldn't handle us winning a title.

OSU added 2 QB's AFTER the deadline to enter the portal had passed. One if not more of them, are going to portal out when the spring transfer window opens. Either way it doesn't matter because it's QB and the best one is going to be the one playing regardless.

It’s pretty fun to think about them being mentally incapable of seeing us win the NC: clenched fists…..squinting eyes….teeth grit…..jaw bulging ….. and the little guttural noise coming from the backs of their throats, a kind of whining tone that says “how can this be happening!?!?”

Oh it just makes me so happy.

They’re doing literally the same thing Keegan, Corum, Zinter, and Jenkins did last year.

One last shot at winning it all. OSU is going all in, because they are going to lose A LOT of guys next year. JTT, Sawyer, Burke, Egbuka, Henderson, probably some guys on their OL who I can’t name, and then at least one, probably two QBs who realize they’re not getting the job. Sayin and Noland are non factors next year, and by 2025 one of them will not be on the roster. So there will Be attrition on the roster.

I hate their guts, but I respect them going all in for one last shot.

I’m not going to commend Michigan players for coming back and then shit on OSU players who come back for the exact same reason.

Howard is a grad transfer, think they have different clocks.

Sayin's coach left the program, giving him (and all Michigan players as well) a 30-day window to explore other options.

But look objectively at Sayin leaving the now DeBoer-led Bama for the Day offense. We talking cash money! DeBoer is gonna put guys in the league!

Stroud has made Day look better by extension, but would you just objectively look at DeBoer's success across multiple stops & think to yourself "I gotta get outta here!"??

I rewatched the Bama game last night and Paige really popped on the screen. He was awesome.

The other guy that really stood out on rewatch was Kenny G. He was playing for the last drive of regulation and OT. Jenkins sprinkled in, but KG was the man next to Graham. Having them both next year (along with Moore and Stewart, who were also on the field for the biggest plays at the end) is tantalizing.

He was the last remaining member of the 2019 class who was still a candidate to be on next year's team.

That means there will be no 6th-year players next year (like Barrett and German Green this year). It also means that there's only one more class (2020) where the "COVID" year could possibly be relevant.

Seniors with eligibility remaining that instead decide to move on from college pretty much always "declare for the draft" no matter their prospects.

He has his degree and has been in AA for 5 years already. His stock probably was not going to improve much as a 24 year old 6th year senior even if he got a ton more playing time as he doesn't have ideal NFL physical traits. He almost certainly realizes there is a good chance he goes undrafted. But he is ready to move on in life and will at the very least get invited to training camp somewhere with a shot to make an impression.

Quentin had a really good year. Not the most talented player but still was an underrated key to winning the championship. For a backup he had a knack for making important plays, a few very noticeable ones and a bunch of less noticeable ones.

I suspect he may not have a scholarship guaranteed at this point. Younger better guys have had enough time to prove themselves and even younger guys hungry behind them. Hopefully he gets a look by an NFL team. Not going to try to predict anything. That 2 star throw in (or so we thought) with Denard I just saw play against the Lions a while back. I thought he was just as over-matched and slow.

That's 100% untrue. There are only 85 scholarships available. NIL can make that moot, because even player 86 earns enough to pay for school anyway, but it still makes you player #86.

If you are a freshman that's not the end of your career, it could just be the beginning. A 6th year senior it's the nudge that tells you it's time to move on. Harbaugh has always made it clear you earn that scholarship after 4.

Now, Q. Johnson has been a good soldier and a good backup. The fumble he caused in the Rose Bowl was a great play. And he's a national champion. But probably time to move on given the young guys like Berry and Sabb.

I remember being worried when he was on the field early in the season while all our DBs were out. By the end of the season he was breaking up passes against Ohio State and saving us in the Rose Bowl. He had an amazing season.

He may have needed one more year in college.  Maybe just transfer somewhere and get 13 more games under his belt.   He has good speed and is an excellent tackler.  So he could be drafted at some point.    At the very least he will get a camp invite somewhere   Good luck

I think he is like Gemon Green. He wasn't going to move the needle much if he returned. He is what he is. It is just a question of did he want to play a part time role at Michigan or be a professional now.

Sabb showed out and I am confident in the other guys will be ready along as we have good coaching there.

The most snaps he’s had in a game in his career is 17 (three times).     All I’m saying is he would’ve been off going somewhere else and getting 600 snaps.     A ton of 24 year old “covid “ players have been drafted the past couple years.    Odds on he won’t be drafted and if he played one more year he was probably 50/50 on being drafted.     I really like him as a player.   And I want him to be drafted.  But he needed more snaps.

Just wait until after Spring and they will have some big transfers out IMO. All these 5 stars think they are guaranteed playing time, or were told that. I’d eat a lemon if they all stay by September.
