QB Quinn Ewers to Texas. DB coach Donte Williams to be retained at USC.

Completing the huge loss for Ohio St (though they don't seem to feel they even need to bat an eye over it) QB Quinn Ewers has decided on Texas. He wants to be near home. And he wants to be with Steve Sarkasian.

And Lincoln Riley is keeping Donte Williams at USC. This all but ensures Domani Jackson will re-commit there.

While I agree about the current USC talent level, the Portal and the new transfer rules (one-time play immediately) can make a fairly immediate impact on a roster. Maybe not 2022, but don't be surprised to see USC back in the national talk (top 10 to 15) by 2023 especially with Riley's big name drawing them. CF is a totally different game than 5 to 10 years ago

Maybe. I'd also want tape and playing time to get drafted and bet he feels more confident in beating out Casey Thompson or Hudson Card next year than CJ Stroud, Bryce Young or Caleb Williams.

Who knows if Oklahoma will still churn out NFL QB's with Riley gone. They had Rattler there and Williams coming in when he was deciding. Bama had Young pretty clearly entrenched as the starter for this year and next. Stroud was there at OSU, sure, but he hadn't thrown a pass yet and Ewers had a better recruiting profile.

You really think this is a huge loss for OSU? Sure, despite looking like Joe Dirt, I’m sure he will be a very good player, but I swear people around here are trying hard to convince themselves OSU is on the brink of irrelevancy. They will always have top rated QBs, losing him isn’t going to force the equivalent of Steven Threet on the field.

True FR 5-star McCord also lit it up to the tune of being named the B1G freshman of the week in the one  game he started in place of Stroud and looked really good in the times he did play. He's solid.

They also have a top 5 QB - Devin Brown - coming in next year who was a former USC commit and had a rating of 0.9761 on the 247 Composite - high 4-star.

OSU knew it was going to lose 2 QBs from the 2021 roster - just wasn't sure who. It turned out to be Miller and Ewers. With those two transferring, it's likely that McCord stays with the expectations of being the front runner to start in 2023. But who knows with the Portal and new transfer rules?

I agree it's not going to crater them but it is a loss in the sense that they've lost a top-level QB prospect.  They luckily have a couple more laying around and another one in this class but I will continue to harp on the fact they were one Justin Fields transfer away from likely starting Tate Martell as their QB, which might have been a bit of a mess.

The bigger concern, if I'm OSU, is that a resurgent Texas is going to hurt their recruiting efforts there and Ryan Day doesn't strike me as the most dynamic guy in the world so any further barrier isn't going to be a positive for him.  They'll still recruit at an elite level but Texas has been a boon for them recently.

Well put. No team will have more than 2 quality QBs on the roster going forward. The Portal and new transfer rules change all that. And even in their worst years, OSU will be a top 5 to 10 recruiting school..... they always have been

And, yes, OSU will continue to be explosive on offense as long as Day is there - that's a no brainer. It's their defense that has been the issue the last few years - we weren't the only ones that have decimated it - look back at both 2020 & 2021. Quite a few teams moved the ball at will on that shitty unit. The big question mark:  will their $2 million new DC (from Okie State) make a difference ?  Stay tuned

These are weird times. Jocks intentionally being ironic and adopting the Bosworth look. They didn’t used to be that sophisticated or meta or whatever lol.

Ewers looks like he owns a van with a large colorful mural on the sides. Something based around an optimistic phrase like "Keep on Rockin'!" or "Reach for the Stars!". He wants to know your zodiac sign and is an expert palm reader. Someday, he's gonna get the hell OUT of this town, man. Firing up a dubie, with Tull blasting on the tape deck. Someday, man...

I don't understand why anyone would think losing Ewers is a huge loss for OSU.  The guy committed to a program loaded with 3 young highly-ranked QBs already on the roster.  Those guys have all had time to adjust to college life (which is a major adjustment) AND learn the system for multiple years AND adjust to college level football.  If one of those 3 QBs managed to meet or exceed expectations this year and play well enough to lock down a starting job (spoiler alert: one of them did), then Ewers was going to have to sit for multiple years before he would ever see the field.  Knowing what know about him (left high school early to jump-start making money off football) he was never going to be able to stomach that.  Ewers clearly wants to play immediately, strut his stuff on the field, and bolt for the NFL.  He will never get that opportunity at OSU.

Quite frankly he should have paid more attention to the depth chart and never committed to OSU.  The chances of him playing early were always slim-to-none.  This whole situation is more than a little bit his fault.  Maybe he found some hottie on campus during his visit and went to OSU just to hang out with her for a semester?

Kyle McCord is expected to transfer after the Bowl Game. So with both Ewers and McCord gone they would be thin at QB. Ryan Day didn't give enough playing time to the back ups.

But who knows, maybe Day will find a way to keep McCord as a back up for another year, when he could go somewhere else and play immediately.
