QB Quinn Ewers to Texas. DB coach Donte Williams to be retained at USC.
Completing the huge loss for Ohio St (though they don't seem to feel they even need to bat an eye over it) QB Quinn Ewers has decided on Texas. He wants to be near home. And he wants to be with Steve Sarkasian.

And Lincoln Riley is keeping Donte Williams at USC. This all but ensures Domani Jackson will re-commit there.

Between picking OSU, Texas, and that haircut, I'm starting to think that maybe this dude isn't a good decision maker...
December 12th, 2021 at 9:26 PM ^
I dont know man. Dude basically got an extra year of college coaching and practice instead of going to HS, got paid millions of dollars while not playing, and never lost a year of eligibility in the process. Seems like he maybe figured out this whole NIL stuff pretty well.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:37 PM ^
Definitely a good strategy for making money now, but if you want a long term NFL career at QB I have to think that Bama and Oklahoma (I guess USC now?) are better choices for school than Osu and Texas
December 12th, 2021 at 10:04 PM ^
USC is going to be a recruiting juggernaut with Riley, Manning and Williams. It’s going to be hard to pull Cali kids with that trio!
December 12th, 2021 at 10:29 PM ^
Agree, extremely hard especially on the offensive side now with Riley there
December 13th, 2021 at 5:08 AM ^
They aren't gonna start winning right away. That team is devoid of talent. Not so fast my friend
December 13th, 2021 at 1:47 PM ^
While I agree about the current USC talent level, the Portal and the new transfer rules (one-time play immediately) can make a fairly immediate impact on a roster. Maybe not 2022, but don't be surprised to see USC back in the national talk (top 10 to 15) by 2023 especially with Riley's big name drawing them. CF is a totally different game than 5 to 10 years ago
December 13th, 2021 at 12:07 AM ^
There’s a lot of kids out here good at football. USC can only take 25ish. We will still get our share.
December 13th, 2021 at 10:05 AM ^
Reilly recruited California well when at Oklahoma. Going to USC does make it harder overall, but you do want to net out that Oklahoma is probably not the same competition they were before as well.
December 12th, 2021 at 10:18 PM ^
Maybe. I'd also want tape and playing time to get drafted and bet he feels more confident in beating out Casey Thompson or Hudson Card next year than CJ Stroud, Bryce Young or Caleb Williams.
Who knows if Oklahoma will still churn out NFL QB's with Riley gone. They had Rattler there and Williams coming in when he was deciding. Bama had Young pretty clearly entrenched as the starter for this year and next. Stroud was there at OSU, sure, but he hadn't thrown a pass yet and Ewers had a better recruiting profile.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:56 PM ^
He’s also giving himself the option to leave in what would be his Junior year and get his pro contract started early
December 13th, 2021 at 1:03 AM ^
But still...that haircut. You just can't win that ?
December 13th, 2021 at 6:21 PM ^
Dude looks like every kid I drank and smoked weed with back in the 90s. Same build as well.
December 12th, 2021 at 10:45 PM ^
Sark is bringing in a monster class (don’t know why/ how), but between that and USC killing it, OSU has to drop a notch or 2 (e.g. isn’t CJ Stroud from Southern Cali?).
December 13th, 2021 at 8:19 AM ^
He should have transferred to Oklahoma State University or to Coastal Carolina.
Much better flow fit.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:16 PM ^
I watched the replay of the Ohio State game and noticed him in the background a few times. Glad he got to witness Michigan destroy Ohio State.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:16 PM ^
Ok, cool. Hook ‘em.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:18 PM ^
You really think this is a huge loss for OSU? Sure, despite looking like Joe Dirt, I’m sure he will be a very good player, but I swear people around here are trying hard to convince themselves OSU is on the brink of irrelevancy. They will always have top rated QBs, losing him isn’t going to force the equivalent of Steven Threet on the field.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:30 PM ^
They don’t have the depth they’ve had for the past several years. They have Stroud and then McCord who hasn’t really played. They’ll be fine as long as Stroud stays healthy.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:50 PM ^
Again, come on. They have a Heisman finalist, the back up is a 5 star sophomore, and third string is a near 5 star freshman. Yeah that’s scary bad depth. I’m not going to spend much time feeling sorry for them.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:58 PM ^
Have to agree with TK here. If what they have isn’t depth, what exactly would be? This past season was by far their most uncertain because none of their QBs had any experience. In 2022, they’ll have about as good of a QB situation as anybody can have assuming McCord stays.
December 12th, 2021 at 10:10 PM ^
McCord is expected to transfer.
And I don't feel sorry for them.
I also don't think they are imploding.
December 12th, 2021 at 10:17 PM ^
There's a +1 in it for you if you rewrite this as a haiku. You're so close...
December 12th, 2021 at 10:30 PM ^
lol
well, i don't have fancy book learning to carry that out
December 13th, 2021 at 1:05 AM ^
McCord to transfer.
I don't feel sorry for them.
They will not implode.
December 13th, 2021 at 4:30 AM ^
Fancy book learning:
Ezekiels Creatures lacks
To carry that out.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:58 PM ^
Well if McCord has not played then that is on Day. They had plenty of blowout wins where he could have easily played a full quarter or more. On the flipside, Day probably wanted to pad CJ's stats.
December 12th, 2021 at 10:00 PM ^
McCord played in five games including getting the start against Akron when Stroud sat out to rest his shoulder.
December 12th, 2021 at 10:18 PM ^
True FR 5-star McCord also lit it up to the tune of being named the B1G freshman of the week in the one game he started in place of Stroud and looked really good in the times he did play. He's solid.
They also have a top 5 QB - Devin Brown - coming in next year who was a former USC commit and had a rating of 0.9761 on the 247 Composite - high 4-star.
OSU knew it was going to lose 2 QBs from the 2021 roster - just wasn't sure who. It turned out to be Miller and Ewers. With those two transferring, it's likely that McCord stays with the expectations of being the front runner to start in 2023. But who knows with the Portal and new transfer rules?
December 12th, 2021 at 10:00 PM ^
I mean the dude was a Trevor Lawrence/Justin Fields level recruit. They'll still be good with our without him, but having Justin Fields at QB vs CJ Stroud was very apparent this year, and it would be in future years as well.
December 12th, 2021 at 10:08 PM ^
I agree it's not going to crater them but it is a loss in the sense that they've lost a top-level QB prospect. They luckily have a couple more laying around and another one in this class but I will continue to harp on the fact they were one Justin Fields transfer away from likely starting Tate Martell as their QB, which might have been a bit of a mess.
The bigger concern, if I'm OSU, is that a resurgent Texas is going to hurt their recruiting efforts there and Ryan Day doesn't strike me as the most dynamic guy in the world so any further barrier isn't going to be a positive for him. They'll still recruit at an elite level but Texas has been a boon for them recently.
December 13th, 2021 at 10:00 AM ^
A couple Texas skill players per cycle is hardly a boon.
They are WR/CB portal to the NFL, and will always pull in 5*s from wherever.
Ryan Day can recruit very well on offense.
QB talent will get spread around, the days of waiting out 2-3 seasons are over.
December 13th, 2021 at 12:40 PM ^
Well put. No team will have more than 2 quality QBs on the roster going forward. The Portal and new transfer rules change all that. And even in their worst years, OSU will be a top 5 to 10 recruiting school..... they always have been
And, yes, OSU will continue to be explosive on offense as long as Day is there - that's a no brainer. It's their defense that has been the issue the last few years - we weren't the only ones that have decimated it - look back at both 2020 & 2021. Quite a few teams moved the ball at will on that shitty unit. The big question mark: will their $2 million new DC (from Okie State) make a difference ? Stay tuned
December 12th, 2021 at 10:19 PM ^
Thanks for giving me a Steven Threet flashback / panic attack. Breathing into a brown paper bag right now.
December 12th, 2021 at 10:25 PM ^
Now, Steven Threet + Nick Sheridan is some enviable QB depth. Haven't seen a team that loaded in quite a while.
December 12th, 2021 at 11:27 PM ^
Can you believe that was ever our situation? I mean, has a coaching transition ever been worse in the history of Power 5 football? I like Lloyd but man that transition cost us 8 years.
December 13th, 2021 at 12:27 AM ^
Fuck Lloyd Carr. Stayed too long and then cratered the program go no good reason. He’s a bitch
December 13th, 2021 at 5:37 AM ^
Fuck off asshole
December 13th, 2021 at 8:47 AM ^
Yes
See Texas, See USC, See Nebraska....traditional "Blue Blood" programs who still havent made it "back".
I am not saying they wont but they have all struggled to rebuild after some of their best coaches left the program.
December 13th, 2021 at 9:39 AM ^
In complete fairness to Threet, he was a top 10 pro-style QB in his class and a top 250 recruit. He didn't pan out and I think a lot of that can be attributed to the coaching, but it's not like he was some scrub they found on the street.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:19 PM ^
These are weird times. Jocks intentionally being ironic and adopting the Bosworth look. They didn’t used to be that sophisticated or meta or whatever lol.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:33 PM ^
I bet he could throw a ball over them mountains
December 12th, 2021 at 9:37 PM ^
Ewers looks like he owns a van with a large colorful mural on the sides. Something based around an optimistic phrase like "Keep on Rockin'!" or "Reach for the Stars!". He wants to know your zodiac sign and is an expert palm reader. Someday, he's gonna get the hell OUT of this town, man. Firing up a dubie, with Tull blasting on the tape deck. Someday, man...
December 12th, 2021 at 10:25 PM ^
Haha the tape deck! I love it!!
December 13th, 2021 at 2:33 AM ^
8 track tape for the pure audiophile.
December 12th, 2021 at 9:54 PM ^
They say, “never judge a book by its cover.”
If he is an athlete and any type of decent QB then that is true in this regard.
December 12th, 2021 at 10:16 PM ^
I don't understand why anyone would think losing Ewers is a huge loss for OSU. The guy committed to a program loaded with 3 young highly-ranked QBs already on the roster. Those guys have all had time to adjust to college life (which is a major adjustment) AND learn the system for multiple years AND adjust to college level football. If one of those 3 QBs managed to meet or exceed expectations this year and play well enough to lock down a starting job (spoiler alert: one of them did), then Ewers was going to have to sit for multiple years before he would ever see the field. Knowing what know about him (left high school early to jump-start making money off football) he was never going to be able to stomach that. Ewers clearly wants to play immediately, strut his stuff on the field, and bolt for the NFL. He will never get that opportunity at OSU.
Quite frankly he should have paid more attention to the depth chart and never committed to OSU. The chances of him playing early were always slim-to-none. This whole situation is more than a little bit his fault. Maybe he found some hottie on campus during his visit and went to OSU just to hang out with her for a semester?
December 12th, 2021 at 10:35 PM ^
Kyle McCord is expected to transfer after the Bowl Game. So with both Ewers and McCord gone they would be thin at QB. Ryan Day didn't give enough playing time to the back ups.
But who knows, maybe Day will find a way to keep McCord as a back up for another year, when he could go somewhere else and play immediately.
