QB Quinn Ewers to Texas. DB coach Donte Williams to be retained at USC.

Completing the huge loss for Ohio St (though they don't seem to feel they even need to bat an eye over it) QB Quinn Ewers has decided on Texas. He wants to be near home. And he wants to be with Steve Sarkasian.

And Lincoln Riley is keeping Donte Williams at USC. This all but ensures Domani Jackson will re-commit there.

Oh noes! Dude you need to step away from the internet for a few minutes once in a while.  You have no idea if McCord is transferring outside of probably some speculation on some crappy OSU board you read too often. And even if he did, I’m sure they could hit the portal for a good backup QB. Again, they are fine at QB, let’s not embarrass ourselves by rubbing our hands together and saying “Excellent” while thinking of their suddenly depleted QB room. Well at least let’s wait to do that until it actually happens.

I wasn't rubbing my hands together. I've never read an Ohio St message board. I don't think they Ohio St is depleted, or imploding.

I remember a few weeks ago when I said on here that Ewers was likely to transfer. Someone replied it would never happen. He said something like, McCord yes it could happen, Ewers never.

There's been talk of McCord transferring for some time. It started immediately after Stroud was named starter. And it got louder when Stroud was playing bad, but still wasn't replaced by McCord. Then McCord got a start. But the talk picked up again. I don't know if it would be a surprise if a 5 Star would get tired of sitting on the bench, and would transfer out. I mean, there's no reason for him to stay.

This is not from a message board. It's from 247:

Expectations are not always reality.  Even if McCord does transfer they still have a Heisman candidate at QB and will likely scour the portal for a backup if need be.  I don't think backup QB is that important of a position on the roster unless the starter is struggling or the O-Line is a sieve, neither of which is true.

I think another possibility is he thought he could: 1. Start making money a year early; 2. Get better coaching and get used to college life. Something he wouldn’t get in high school. 3. See where he sits in the OSU depth situation, and after a year can re-evaluate.

He now has 4 years of eligibility with a year of being in a college system. He’s in a better position now I think than if he was an in-coming freshman QB at OSU behind an experienced Stroud and then McCord as well

Agreed. The report I'm seeing is that he might be in an off the field role, so I could see him being their recruiting head. Honestly, if Domani had committed to us before Riley went to USC, he probably would've decommitted by now and opened his recruitment back up. As for Quinn, I remember saying on this board I bet he ends up back at Texas and everyone called me crazy. It was inevitable if he didn't get the starting job, or at least some playing time. You have to think at the start of the season he was WAY behind where JJ was with us in terms of playbook, but by the end I'm sure he was fully capable of playing garbage time. This is looking like a Tate Martell situation.

Brian/Seth have mentioned on the podcast that it will be impossible to keep highly recruited QB depth in the portal era. This isn't a problem unique to tOSU and could be an issue for us, despite the warm and fuzzies.

Losing a guy with Ewers potential matters, even if OSU is still loaded. We do not have to dig deep to find examples. Clemson lost Trevor Lawrence and replaced him with 5 Star DJ Uiagalelei. It did not go according to plan. That being said, I will believe something truly bad happens to OSU when it happens.

Was never a fan of his release. He throws like a shortstop turning a double play. There’s times I really question the whole “star” rating system.
