PWO ATH/QB Peter Bush - Newport Beach CA

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

This one doesn't get a Hello post yet since it's not quite done, but Steve Lorenz mentioned that Peter Bush, a 6'1" / 210 lb QB out of Corona Del Mar, has accepted a PWO offer pending admission to the school. Lorenz says the coaches are "excited about him as a potential player."

6'1" 210 for an athlete QB? I'd say that Peter Bush is about the right size. Hopefully he doesn't slack on training and gain bad weight before the season. Peter bush will need some trimming.

Per a late February 2010 mlive article:

"NCAA rules prohibit comments on preferred walk-ons until they have paid an orientation deposit and demonstrated a commitment to attending the school. Scholarship recruits sign a letter of intent and scholarship papers on signing day, which was Feb. 3."

So I guess it depends on whether the PWO has satisfied those two requirements.

This also very quickly builds a roster of "his guys". Hopefully the entire team feels like that always, but when the walk-ons are hand-picked and the coach's guys, it gets that locker room reflective of HARBAUGH even more quickly.

His film shows a lot of reps at WR as well, so it's likely the coaches see him playing some there as well. CDM has a really good football program so it's very likely this kid is a great athlete.

thay our PWO class would be ranked 182 or 162 or something. That's crazy awesome and it was before this kid. I've said before that a strong group of walk-on kids are important for the occasional hidden gem and the better your scout team is the better your starters are. This is good and I can't promise anything but I hear we may add another PWO kid from NW OH. I'll say his name after he does or doesn't join. He's a solid player. No major offers (maybe a MAC) but some tools are there.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, so this means that if we have 85 scholarship players and 25 PWO making 110, that would mean that 5 guys can't participate in fall camp but after the first game, those 5 could then participate in practice during the fall, bowl season and spring ball.

That's not quite right. Here's the statute from the NCAA manual:

17.10.2.1.2 Limit on Number of Participants—Bowl Subdivision. [FBS] In bowl subdivision football, there shall be a limit of 105 student-athletes who may engage in practice activities prior to the institution’s first day of classes or the institution’s first contest, whichever occurs earlier.

Long time follower, but I've only made a few comments over the years. Grew up in Newport Beach and went to CdMHS, so this is a BIG DEAL for me having loved Michigan since I was a lilttle kid. GO BLUE!!

Apparently Harbaugh is going to give three scholarships out to the PWO's and is enticing them this way to work hard and earn the scholarship.  I am not sure what year this will occur though.
