On the vast majority of these that hit the turf, it’s truly inexcusable. Without a second of hesitation, I would trade not returning a single punt for the rest of the season for someone who can and will reliably catch it on the fly each time.

Used to be teams would send 2 guys back to return punts. 1 player would be up for the short punts while the other player set up for the deep punts. Not sure why it's no longer the case. More than likely analytics are the reason why.

It feels like Harbaugh’s M teams have typically been a bit sluggish out of a bye. Seems about par for the course. It was fine.

MSU last year as a good example. Everyone was thinking its going to be a 50+ blowout and it was nice, but it wasn't that. In both games, the defense played about as well as you could expect, but the offense was off its best game.

i haven’t seen any info, but i thought morris looked a little janky coming off the field after a return in the second quarter.
on the “poison” call, i thought he was waving his arms before it came down and the upback missed the call, but i’d like to see it again.

They got away with roughing the kicker once, maybe twice. The 3 FG is good because we might need them in the future, if there is a closer game (we hope not).

The first one that got the announcers into a tizzy was play-acting by the punter. He could have easily put his foot down and landed normally. Instead, he felt contact and flopped. Thankfully, the official didn’t fall for his pantomime.

I do wonder if that was a little but of the refs whistling him for diving. Ie; he has a reputation and has been warned so now they just assume it'd acting until proven different

The team looked so focused until losing some mojo when the punt bounced off our players back. Learn from that big mistake and move on.
There was a nice return and two made field goals.

Thaw had the one decent punt return, but I’m still concerned there. Would like to see someone else. Neither punt returner has been great. The running into our own punt returner had me side-eyeing too.

They called the flag back, but there was a replay where it looked like the Purdue player had his hand pushing the Michigan player toward Thaw. To be fair, no idea if it was actually enough to cause the collision, but he did have a hold of his jersey right before the impact.

Thaw has mostly played well in return duties. I fell like this board is unfairly critical of his play. Regardless of his performance the comments are that he shouldn't be in there. Had a nice return in this game.

Anyone else have a problem with clock/timeout management in possession right before half? I don’t want to be too nit picky but seems like we needed a timeout right after first first down.

The real mistake was going for it on 4th & 3 instead of just punting and using the timeouts to get the ball back. The inside run was not hitting all game, so they should not have been so arrogant to assume they could get those yards in a single play.

Totally agree. Going for it on 4th down on your own 30 something up 20 to 3 before half was really stupid. Just punt the ball and play defense and go into half 20 to 3. Just gave them 3 points for nothing. No reason to go for that at all.
