I like Jeff Brohm. I like his intensity and offensive mind. Purdue is gonna be really good in a couple years.

I thought the chair slam was corny...but I agree in terms of in game.
I just wish NOW we were going into the 5 year period where we don't play Purdue. They are a tough matchup and it's only going to get tougher.

As long as we have Don Brown, I am not worried.

Touche.
September 23rd, 2017 at 9:30 PM ^
Exactly. We're so lucky to have Brown in our corner. I truly think he's the best defensive mind in all of college football. I just hope Drevno can get around his level or we find someone who is.

A yuge +1 to hou!

I thought the chair slam was badass. Gave me chills. I appreciate the dude's intensity.
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:49 PM ^
I hear you Brady....don't you have a game to watch right now?
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:49 PM ^
And I'm sure some guys in the locker room were the same. People are motivated differently.
Me? I laughed. Stop throwing things.
But in game? I thought his energy was exactly what Purdue needed, I thought he fought for his team, and I would've been just as frustrated on those calls he was frustrated about.
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:54 PM ^
But can we both agree that their cue ball D-coordinator was way over the top with his roid rage and hulk impersonation?
September 23rd, 2017 at 9:03 PM ^
Nick Holt. He coached for Pete Carroll's USC back in the day.
September 24th, 2017 at 9:06 AM ^
or better yet, 5150.
and man, he was swearing a blue streak all day long. i think he might be a purple-face disciple.

He looked like Hellboy to me hahaha
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:21 PM ^
What got me was it was so planned. He turned around and moved it closer to him, then got all amped up leading to the slam.
If he just grabbed something to slam, it would have been good for motivation, imo

It was lame and obviously planned, in my opinion. If you can, watch it again (probably on YouTube) the players get hype after a delay.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:04 PM ^
Yes, was a planned chair throw. It was a great speech until he did the chair throw. It made it corny to me. I always thought a coach who expressed confidence and conviction with sterness was more motivating than the guy who yells during it.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:13 PM ^
over to himself for the "hammer down!" crescendo, so it would be close enough to grab and toss when his rant climaxed.
Funny.
September 23rd, 2017 at 9:40 PM ^
That is the basis for culture change in W. Lafayette
September 24th, 2017 at 12:58 AM ^
I slammed the crust from my egg sandwich down on my plate and ran into the kitchen and washed most of the dishes.
September 24th, 2017 at 8:40 AM ^
Did you actually watch it? He's in mid rant and looks around for the chair. Grabs it and sets it closer. Then rants a few more seconds and grabs it and slams it down. Seemed quite fabricated to me. Itd be one thing if it was already within reach and it happened. He was setting it up. Crap like thats only "cool" if it's spur of the moment. He clearly fabricated it.
Edit. Looks like a few heads-up posters above caught it too. Well done.
September 23rd, 2017 at 9:27 PM ^
The chair slam and his general demeanor were pretty violent and it seemed to rub off on the players. Maybe he'd be better off coaching WWE.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:33 PM ^
He calls it a street fight between the whistle and that's how he coaches. It was awesome to see WKU pull off the upsets and take the LSU's and Alabama's well into the 3rd quarter before running out of gas. Once he gets legitimate weapons at Purdue it's going to be nuts.
September 24th, 2017 at 1:54 AM ^
He'll be at Florida next yeqr or some other bigger football school.
September 23rd, 2017 at 9:35 PM ^
That chair slam was ridiculously cheesy and obviously planned. The players didn't seem genuinely hyped.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:46 PM ^
Row the boat, throw the chair... whatever.
September 24th, 2017 at 10:25 AM ^
I thought it was corny too, but I am a middle-aged man. I think 20 year old kids get psyched up for that sort of thing. The REALLY corny part was how he kept referring to the Boilermaker hitting his hammer down -- like the boilermaker guy is badass.
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:47 PM ^
IF he's that good of a coach, he won't be at Purdue in a few years
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:57 PM ^
hes in that group that will be interviewed for major jobs over next few years
September 23rd, 2017 at 9:41 PM ^
In the college game these days, there are multiple top-tier jobs open every year. He keeps this up and he will ge one, maybe just up north a bit in Indiana.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:51 PM ^
Is nearly due south of West Lafayette.
Unless yer thinking of that mess in south bend, which is nearly due north by about the same distance.
September 24th, 2017 at 11:56 AM ^
long enough to get their program on solid footing and contending somewhat regularly in the B1G West.
Not only that, but beating ND like a drum yearly.
September 23rd, 2017 at 9:57 PM ^
And as quick as Brohm showed up.....poof.....he gone.
September 24th, 2017 at 10:19 AM ^
When they hire him as their next coach
September 24th, 2017 at 12:07 PM ^
Because Brohm won't either. He will get snatched up as soon as he wants to be.

Classy comment. Purdue is going to be a handful with him coaching. That said I am so happy that we did NoT get to see them storm the field.
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:46 PM ^
I think that was the last time we'll see him. May be replacing Butch Jones if/when he gets the ax at Tennessee.
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:51 PM ^
I would hold out for the shark humper or Coach O to get fired.
September 23rd, 2017 at 9:05 PM ^
I know it is early, but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to extend Brohm halfway through the season with like a $4-5 million/year contract.
They went pretty cheap with Darrell Hazell's $2 million/year contract, so I think they know now that they have to shell out serious cash to keep serious talent.
September 23rd, 2017 at 9:31 PM ^
They don't have the revenue to justify that type of contract
September 23rd, 2017 at 10:50 PM ^
Revenue sharing in the Big Ten gives each school a lot of money. they might not have enough for serious assistant pay, but they could do it.
September 24th, 2017 at 12:05 AM ^
Well sure, if you want to funnel your entire revenue sharing into one sport. That's not what it is intended for though.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:31 AM ^
Iowa has one of the best fan bases in the big ten.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:38 PM ^
If WKU could find a way to pay $1 million I'm sure Purdue can find a way to pay $4-5 million. A million at WKU is nuts since we almost cut football in the lat 90's.
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:40 PM ^
This is how it's done.
