PSU's 247 Writer Flips Lavert Hill, Quinn Nordin to UM

Submitted by alum96 on

Sean Fitz who is the "Lorenz of PSU" just flipped both Hill (a few days back) and Nordin (yesterday) to UM.

Fitz has a very high 89%+ accuracy rate when it comes to ballz and most of his picks are for PSU, Pitt, WVA so he would sort of be a regional expert.  His only other UM pick this year was NJ Amir Mitchell about a month before he announced.

Hill is interesting just from the angle that there has  not been a single movement by anyone in his prediction graph in 4-5 months....and Nordin was at the game yesterday rather than shuttling down to EL to see PSU which is who he committed to.

Some have speculated Nordin may grayshirt the fall semester (being in state tuition helps in that regard) so we can get 27 scholarships out to others and then once attrition hits we can put him on scholarship in the January semester.

Also some noted he took "PSU commit" off his twitter page yesterday.

/crystal ballz season begins in earnest

Because Nordin is a G-Rappist, he actually drove right past MSU to come to AA. And he wasn't quiet about his Michigan fandom. That said, it's been known for some time (even before he committed) that if Michigan wanted him, he was ours. Lavert Hill is he interesting one. He comes to AA all the time and hasn't been to State College all season. However, that could be due to proximity and his brother playing here as well. The fact that he hasn't flipped yet is kinda odd, honestly.

I wasn't particularly high on Lavert hill because he seemed like another one of those smallish corners. Although it seems like he's still very good and maybe not as small as previously listed after all. Does anyone who knows more than I do know how good of a player he is and his strengths and weaknesses?

I read some comments in thread about him back in the summer, Magnus saying the book on him was inconsistency: he'd play great for stretches then get beat for a TD. Later in the summer I was reading a 247 thread on one of the big camps, maybe the Opening, and sure enough the 247 analyst had multiple glowing statements about Hill in the 1on1's, until he got burned for some easy TDs. Take it FWIW. He's a very highly rated kid who seems to have all the skills you'd need.

He would have the opportunity to play with his Brother and get early playing time. He would have the opportunity to play for Harbaugh. He would have the opportunity to be coached by two former NFL DBs in the Big House close to home for a program on the way up. My bet is he will Go Blue.

To not being in the basement of college football, I almost want to get back into recruiting. For my own good I will have to fight the urge and stay away.

All year, Harbaugh was able to do it with mirrors.  With half the DL out and the best team from an overall talent perspective in the country in town, the mirrors stopped working when they showed up to play.  That was undoubtedly the best OSU has played all year.

at all. He is an outstanding coach that was willing to come to PSU following probably the darkest college football scandel ever. He has been saddled with scholarship limitations, players allowed to transfer without sitting out a year, not to mention booing away crowds from the general ill will and negativety toward psu. In spite of all that psu has a winning record in arguably the toughest division in college football.

Yep

List of 14 PSU wins under Franklin:

  • 2014: UCF, Akron, rutgers, UMass, Indiana, Temple, (bowl) B.C.
  • 2015: Buffalo, rutgers, San Diego State, Army, Indiana, Maryland, Illinois

I can't even figure out which is the best win in his tenure - maybe UCF in 2014.

How many of those teams outside of BC in the bowl had a winning record? 3? 4?

How many were non conf? 8 of 14.

I don't know if Temple will be any good next year but they start with Kent State, Pitt, Temple, UM.  They could open the year 1-3 if Temple is anything.

the players were allowed to walk away and the sanctions were put in place? Yes, the scholarship limitations have some effect, but Bill O'Brien was the one who went through everything else you listed. He did a very good job. Franklin, I'm not seeing it.

Penn State has neither a winning record in their divison or in the Big Ten. They did improve from 2-6 to 4-4 this season.

We're at 22 now, right?

6 more?

  1. Nordin
  2. Hill
  3. Gary
  4. Walker
  5. Jones or Bush or Jackson (LB)
  6. Nauta

Probably loss one and add Pie Young?

I feel like I'm forgetting a bunch of guess...

I'm hearing a rumor that Franklin is out at Penn State. Like, right now.

Nothing confirmed yet, but I;m searching.

EDIT: Apparently it's just OC John Donovan.

Nothing else to see here, folks.
