Pretty funny Rich Eisen interview with OSU's Garrett Wilson
Eisen had Garrett Wilson on and trolled him more than a little bit, though Wilson gave it right back to him and it seems like they had a good interview and got along well. Example-at the end of the interview, Wilson thanked "Mr. Eisen" for having him on. Eisen stopped him and said "It's Rich-or based on last November-your father. Was that wrong?"

It is pretty funny and Wilson is a good sport about it.
Rich should have asked him the name of the school in East Lansing.

It is still such a testament to our coaches and players that we held THAT offense to 27 points. I really think that if they made the playoffs, they could have won the whole thing. That OSU offense was better than the one that won it in 2014, their 2015 offense with the same guys, and their 2020 team that made it to the NCG.
What a win that game remains to be.
April 27th, 2022 at 11:10 AM ^
The Georgia D was way better than ours. We hold them to 27, I bet Georgia holds them under 20.
April 27th, 2022 at 11:17 AM ^
Georgia’s back 4 were their weakest unit; still really good, but not as strong as their DL and LBs. Hutch is a way better pass rusher than Walker was (Ojabo was better too). Seeing what Young did in the first go around with a fully healthy Jameson Williams, I think Wilson, Olave, and JSN would have had the upper hand. Glad that never had to be the case.
Also, damn you UGA for not only beating us, but for not beating Alabama the first go around
April 27th, 2022 at 11:59 AM ^
I fully believe they let Alabama win for two reasons. First was to get two SEC teams in the playoffs and maximize revenue for the conference. Second was they knew they had to lose, so they intentionally didn't give away as much in case they played again.
Oh yeah.
They didn't "let" Bama win. IF you watched the national championship, it's easy to see that Georgia had a Bama problem the same way Michigan did with OSU...it was the monkey on their back. Didn't matter how good/dominant Georgia was, they had to figure out how to get over their mental block with Bama. They figured it out but...barely. And it took some Bama injuries on offense to really open the door.

And recall what it took to get some of those points. I’m thinking of the circus catch on the first touchdown (though they were driving well, so maybe they eventually score on the at drive anyway), the stupid catch by smith-njigba when he one-armed it off our DB’s back (can’t even remember who was on coverage on that play) which was on 3rd and 17 which would have been a punt, and then the two 4th down conversions on the other drive which required a touch-perfect pass JUUUUUSSSSTTT over Aidan’s fingertips. Oh…and the dropped interception by Moten.
I think the score of that game wound up being about as close as it could have given the circumstances, and it could have been MUCH more in our favor, like 49-17 (which is what the flow of the game felt like by the end)

Their offense was 2nd to only the 2019 LSU offense in the advanced analytics era, at least heading into the Michigan game. They were insane.
Their OL had 2 1st Team All-Conference and All-Americans (by at least 1 of FWAA/AFCA): Munford and NPF. Munford was the one who got bulldozed by Hutchinson and gave up the last sack by Ojabo. NFP gave up a sack to Hutchinson, was called for a hold, and got torched at least 2 other times on pass rushes by Hutchinson alone. Jones, who they pulled after he gave up 2 sacks to Hutchinson, was All-Big Ten 3rd/2nd team. Paris Johnson was also All-Big Ten 2nd/3rd team.
2 All-American WRs (JSN was 3rd Team and he put up the best numbers of the 3) and all of their top 3 were All-Conference.
Henderson was 2nd Team All-Conference.
And of course Stroud was 1st Team All-Conference and a Heisman finalist.
Obviously the UGA game overshadowed the OSU result, but it was a function of UGA jumping out to a lead and good game planning. UGA's coaches did a much better job than Day did.

It was pretty amazing. Just goes to show how much edge pressure can wreck just about any offense. See for example 2008 Patriots vs. Giants Super Bowl, Tampa Bay Bucs DEs teeing off against the Chiefs backup tackles in the 2021 Super Bowl, Ndamukong Suh almost single-handedly beating Texas in the 2009 Big 12 Championship game.
Hutchinson and Ojabo gave our opponents that level of disruption all year long and it was pretty special to watch.

I still have a hard time envisioning them getting past Georgia.
Their offense would've absolutely been better equipped to handle Georgia's defense, but Georgia still would've gotten whatever it wanted on OSU's defense, which was arguably worse than Michigan's. That's where the game largely would've been won.
My guess is you would've had something like a 41-28 kind of game. Not quite in the blowout category but still to the point where Georgia was at least 7-10 points ahead the entire night.
OSU's defense, which was arguably worse than Michigan's.
Bit of an understatement there.
April 27th, 2022 at 12:01 PM ^
Lots of words here about OSU offense, which was pretty good. But no words about OSU's defense, which wasn't nearly good enough to be in the playoffs. They would have been rolled by either UGA or Bama. Rolled up nice and tight...
They would have been rolled by either UGA or Bama.
It would have been ugly. This is a good example of OSU's pass defense in the Rose Bowl:

When I watch the highlights (which is, honestly, a little too often), I'm still amazed that M gave up no long touchdowns and only a few big plays. It's terrifying watching that offense even when you know how the game ends!
Agreed...and UM's offense was as important as its D in that game...the physical nature of the O helped UM control the game and get into their collective heads. UM dominated both lines of scrimmage and that neutralised their advantages on O.
The only thing that derailed their chances at a title last year was the flu. They would've beat Michigan 100-0 if the whole team hadn't caught it. So untimely and cruel.
Huh? That OSU team was soft. Georgia would have ran for 6 or 7 yards a carry. Stetson Bennett wouldn't have had to throw a pass, and OSU's vaunted offense would have had only a handful of possessions. Bad take. They were lucky to beat Utah for goodness sakes.
I think we are gonna push that Ohio defense around the field in Columbus
I’ll believe it when I see it, and even if true I think we are collectively underestimating hutch’s value. Our defense is going to take a step back, the question is will the offense take a big enough step forward to make up for it.
April 27th, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
Sounds like he is over the flu, but not so sure about the snow.

Wilson is from Lake Travis HS here in Austin. It's one of the local powerhouse schools, along with Westlake. We were at a local brewery and were chatting with some Lake Travis football parents and they said more than once what a great kid Wilson is. Very little ego and took his academics seriously.
Also interesting is that they mentioned never having seen or heard of Michigan coaches ever stopping by.
April 27th, 2022 at 11:03 AM ^
Yeah, I can't help but like him (!) a little bit after reading seeing this interview. I knew he was talented, but he's obviously a smart guy and a good dude.
April 27th, 2022 at 11:30 AM ^
I hate it when I like OSU players. Nice kid. Damn it.
April 27th, 2022 at 11:36 AM ^
There are plenty of deplorable OSU players to hate. It's a vast reservoir that can allow your hate to flow unabated. But it's also totally OK to develop positive feelings toward an obviously good human and great football player like Wilson.
April 27th, 2022 at 11:42 AM ^
I know right? A lot of OSU players have been successful and are outstanding people. The majority of the fan base on the other hand...mouth breathers.
*breathes out of mouth loudly*
April 27th, 2022 at 11:27 PM ^
LOL, that's why I said majority...not all encompassing.
April 27th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
Like Chimpanzees?
April 27th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
What chimpanzee?
April 27th, 2022 at 12:56 PM ^
that chimp is gonna get arrested for sexual assault
rgard is already in the joint on a parole violation. that picture was taken just before his arrest. really.
His career is over. Let's all make our feelings known to his zoo, that we no longer wish to see him swinging through the exhibit. He should forever be barred to the indoor area.

Anyone else feel like it's time to stop gloating about our 1 legit win in 2 decades. I think it makes us look foolish.
I was at the 'game', it was magical. But time to let it go. Now if we can win this year in CBus and that will certify it. Then we can gloat as back to back wins means a little something.
April 27th, 2022 at 12:12 PM ^
Um....no.
(EDIT: I had a much harsher reply to this, but I'll leave at what I have now)
Thanks Windy 🤣
April 27th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Are you really saying that this win isn't something that we should celebrate until game time this fall? What's foolish is to say that Michigan throttled one of the all-time best OSU offenses but you're enjoying it too much.
Thank you Good point. Fuck it. Fuck OSU!
Anyone else feel like it's time to stop gloating about our 1 legit win in 2 decades.
no.
I think it makes us look foolish.
i don't care
I was at the 'game', it was magical.
good for you.
But time to let it go.
fuck outta here
Now if we can win this year in CBus and that will certify it.
42-27 already certified it
Then we can gloat as back to back wins means a little something
we can gloat now, and we will. in fact, i will gloat harder now because i know it irritates you and your terrible take on the matter
I'm with others.
I mean, I'm not a gloater. Michigan's performance on the field of play does not affect my identity, and I don't try to rub it in people's faces, nor consider it a personal setback when we lose.
But...
It's our first win in 10 seasons. Does that mean that the tide of the rivalry isn't necessarily turned yet? Sure. But it's also our first win in 10 seasons, and we've had 10 years of waiting for our turn to enjoy being the winners. If people enjoy trading barbs with friends or acquaintances about sports, well, we've taken our share of heat. Not this time. We won.
It's our turn.
me too. the win is different for a couple of critical reasons. one, we had some brutal losses that were hard to handle: close, close games, the steal of the 2016 OT game, devin gardner's incredible one-footed performance, o'korn misses broad side of the barn for an easy TD, dropped interceptions, snake-bit, snake-bit, etc.
and second, we didn't just beat them, we beat the snot out of one of the most talented and highly-recruited (read: cheating recruits) teams they've ever had. we ran it down their throats and there was not a darn thing they could do about it.
viva the hurdle!
Xm well said. That 2016 game still pisses me off. I was there and that stadium was violent that day there was no way the refs were letting Michigan win that game.
Guys I'm changing my tune and will celebrate this for all it's worth!
The eff you talking about?!?!? You disrespeckting 2011? That was a legit win. Same with 2003.
There - three wins in two decades.... Jeez man.
Won the game, won the conference championship, got into the playoff (even with a blowout loss to UGA that's a major accomplishment towards greater heights).
Why the fuck wouldn't we relish it? It's not like we beat one of the worst OSU teams in the decade. They would have easily been in the playoffs if they beat us.
If there's one thing I've learned over the last couple decades...JUST FUCKING ENJOY IT!
So the wins in 2003 and 2011 weren't legit? What?
