Potential staff addition twitter stalking

Submitted by UMICH1606 on

Just something to keep an eye on with the 10th assistant coming or perhaps maybe even someone on staff will be reassigned to RB coach. I know Webb has been saying it is a possibility, but Sam Webb, Chengelis, Chris Evans, and JKP started following former OL coach and current Indiana OL coach Greg Frey on Twitter.

No, you don't have to change anything...but you do have to marry his daughter.

Seriously, though, Michigan runs a lot of the same concepts already. The inside zone is a staple at Michigan, and the outside zone should become more of a staple with a speedier guy like Chris Evans getting more snaps. Michigan runs some traps and power, too, but I think scheme when it comes to OL is somewhat overrated. The footwork and technique is often similar from scheme to scheme.

Harbaugh is preparing to lose Drevno, who has legit HC aspirations. Did not happen this year, but could very well happen next year - Drevno will be a college HC someday. Pep would take over the OC job and Frey would be there for continuity with the OL. In Harbaugh we trust ... they have a succession plan because he a Drevno are really tight and Harbs is training him to be a HC. Even Pep knows this, who will have his turn in a few years. The Harbaugh coaching tree grows and grows and grows ...

Frey would be a far better hire than Mike Hart. Hart is not ready for this job yet, regardless of how nice of a guy he was when he played here. I bet he ends up coaching at Michigan at some point in his career, but that doesn't need to be now.

If Mike Hart hadn't played at Michigan and we hired coach "X" to be RB coach who had less than 5 years of experience coaching at EMU, WMU, and Syracuse with no significant players recruited or developed .....this board would have a meltdown.

Maybe some day, but not the right fit currently.

If he can make Ty Isaac stop fumbling, then we have an all-conference back to carry the load.

Seriously, though. Hart's coaching resume leaves something to be desired, but it would be silly to not give him a look. He knows the position, he is a legend here, and he is a firey competitor. Considering how candid he was with a microphone in front of him while he played here, I can't imagine him being anything less than a great recruiter. Also, I'd love the cheap laughs because of the height differential on the sidelines when he inevitably high fives a 6'7" OL

When he was at Michigan, he was a main guy when it came to recruiting Florida. The kids down there loved him. It helps that he was a very good high school player in Clearwater, FL and then played for Bobby Bowden at Florida State.

EDIT: Two of the four commits attributed to him at Indiana this year are from Florida.

This provides more evidence that Harbaugh is a clear thinker who is willing to act decisively.  I think a pretty good case could be made that OL has been the chief weakness of our offense in recent years.  While Drevno has a superb reputation as an OL coach, the fact is that he doubles as OC.  Bringing in an outstanding OL coach to bring fresh impetus to this problem area seems to be a skillful move by the head coach, if this is indeed what JH will do.  Whatever happens, you have to love Harbaugh's objectivity in assessing the coaching staff and his willingness to address problems.
