At this point we have to root for Patterson in the “epic” QB battle...Right?

Submitted by TheTeamTheTeam… on
Like many of you I am frustrated, angry and down right baffled at the ineptitude of the Offense of this team...I can remember more red zone turnovers than touchdowns. Searching for answers I think it’s easy to hit the Fire Coach X button...and I for one am squarely on the fire drevno wagon, but more than anything we need a QB that knows the situation in the game. Peters fires into double coverage late in the game (first pick in the 4th qtr) sinking what seems like all hope of a comeback, then hesitates and slides a yard short of the first down killing time and more hope, then to cap it all off he had worse accuracy than J.T. freaking Barrett throwing down field and ends the game with a second 4th qtr Int. All my eggs are in the Shea Patterson basket at this point. What say you, Mgoblog

Peters better get ready to hold a clipboard next year b/c that's all he will be doing. Never seen a QB look so lethargic out there. On top of that, the kid just crumbles whenever somebody touches him.

Shae will put swag back into the position. Caff will be better too I bet.

Fire Drevno and Pep. Harbaugh needs to recuse himself from the offensive gameplan and just be a CEO coach. It's clear his 70s dinosaur offense is not working here.

...bring perspective to what Harbaugh meant, when he indicated that Peters wasn't ready (before Speight's injury and O'Korn played his way to 3rd string) and lacked command presence in the huddle.

I never like to be negative about players and although Peters wasn't the only Michigan player, he was certainly one of the most visible...that lacked any sort of competitve fire or attitude, something that can inspire and lift a team.  I didn't see it.  I saw a QB that was defeated, with a 19-3 lead.  That's not good.  Just from what was lacking in the Michigan passing game, you can immediately see what Patterson brings to the table.

I know there is a lot of disappointment and lowering of expectation going around, but a player like Patterson will have an immediate impact...provided he isn't asked to hand off to the TE.

If only I could convince myself that "finding a QB" would be the magic bullet that yields results... alas, I don't believe that is the case at all.  We don't have elite talent or depth on the OL and we have absolutely zero gamebreakers at the skill positions on that offense. I realize I'm probably in the minority but I've been underwhelmed with the WR crew all year. The RB crew has been gritty, but there are no superstars back there.

At this point, I'll support whoever the "best" QB is coming out of fall camp and hope that Harbaugh can start extracting more results out of the kids we do have, ala Dantonio.

The playcalling in the passing game is atrocious (Pep Hamilton). The receivers aren't breaking off their routes to help the QB (no WR coach). A shiny new QB won't fix the problems. A coaching overhaul might.

Agreed.  Given the way everyone else played, and the playcalling, Peters would've had to be Tom Brady - in his NFL prime - to win this game.

Peters didn't look great but he's a fucking freshman in like his fourth start ever, with no pass protection and apparently three different plays to choose from, so anyone giving up on him now needs to check themselves.  I can't imagine what exactly you expect out of the QB position if one-third of a season is all you need to chuck a guy to the curb.

He is two full seasons into his career and he played like a true freshman making his first start in September. It appears as if he wasted two years of practice because he wasn't anointed the starter. He cost himself a sack today because he didn't identify the defensive alignment and move Higdon over. That's basic stuff you see every QB do, but the game is too complicated for him right now. Another example, with all that pressure I don't recall him checking down once and throwing to a back. How many times does he have to lock on to a covered McKeon before he realizes that ain't working?

but seeing how they have such a wonderful relationship with Harbaugh I would count on not seeing him until a year from September. While they in some cases might approve the immediate transfer, siince they don't like Harbaugh I could see them purposely not granting immediate transfer to play next season.

We just need a quarterback who can make the throws when needed and doesn't just heave it into the end zone when we're at the five yard line. Oh yea, and a quarterback who wants to win so badly that he doesn't slide a yard short of getting a first down when they're running the two minute offense.

Unless Shea and McCaffery get hurt, Peters isn't starting. The staff clearly doesn't trust him and he was awful today. They originally preferred O'Korn over Peters.

A big part of that is playcalling.  Drevno and Hamilton are abysmal playcallers and both need to go.  Peters was not impressive today but he was not given a competent gameplan to work with.

The guys on the field are mostly 4* + guys. The recruiting/star discussion is so old. The difference between good and great boils down to execution over the course of 4 quarters. Instead of putting a team away, Michigan fumbles twice! Instead of throwing the ball away inside the 5, the QB throws an interception in the end zone. Look, I am not saying talent does not matter because it clearly does. Blocking, tackling, and protecting the ball can make up for some gaps in talent. it's so damn hard to win a game when you shoot yourself in the foot repeatedly.

all the stars, all the offseason practice "hype", all the "if the other qb played we win", or not losing your last three games of a season... take everything with a grain of salt and skepticism

until we beat someone decent or hell win a tough neutral site/road game, this program doesn't deserve respect. no more talk, time to put up or shut up. patterson isnt a savior. we need a program.

If Peters was the answer then why would they bring in Patterson? Why was Peters behind JOK to start the year? I wanted to see Peters play and I got my wish. What I saw was a guy who needs more time to develop. Without seeing McCaffrey, I would not be shocked if it was Patterson, McCaffrey, Peters (assuming Patterson is eligible).

Harbaugh is supposed to be the qb whisperer, right? So we had senior Speight, all American transfer OKorn, wonderkid Peters, and so many other qbs on the roster they switched positions, and yet we still had inept qb play holding the team back no matter what.

I think Peters is a decent QB, but he buckled under pressure today. It looked like he just wasn't tough enough to handle what SC threw at him. He got beat up pretty badly and they got in his head. trainwrecked

why he didn't win the starting job this year. A flat, tentative game. No emotion, no obvious leadership, and you're a D1 QB, can you maybe throw a decent ball? I'll continue to support the Michigan QB, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I'm hoping it's someone we haven't seen yet.

Not to pin the whole thing on him, we don't know what he was told, the gameplan couldn't have been better than the playcalling. I think we need some coaching adjustments as well.

Peters has that aloof look like hea looking past whoever hea talking to. Probably a nice kid, but he doesnt have that killer instinct and passion. He just kinda derps around.

Inserting another QB isn't going to fix a damn thing.  There is something seriously wrong with the offensive coaching staff on this team.

I've got to agree. QB play was pretty bad today, but so was damn near everything else. We've got fumbles and drops galore to go along with bad playcalling. You can point to the youth on the team, but it's not like this kind of collapse is new.

I'm watching UCF's quarterback tear it up and am wondering how the hell they can put together an offense like this after going 0-12 two years ago, yet Michigan can't even put together a mediocre offense in year 3 of Harbaugh. There's something seriously wrong here and it goes beyond the players.

The problem is settling for too many two and three star guys like metellus who are limited athletically and then not putting the team in position to win by putting players out of position like a safety covering the slot, a te taking a handoff, blowing timeouts because we are not lined up properly.
