Permanent AD Candidate Emerging

Submitted by DrMantisToboggan on

My people are saying Hackett is going to work on passing the reigns to Warde Manuel after the Nike deal is announced.

My source is the same as my apparell deal info (which should be announced any time on or after 7/1), someone who works closely with Jim Hackett, and someone I trust until something he tells me proves to not be accurate.

If it's true Hackett will probably ride off into the sunset with an approval rating that rivals Bo. With only 8ish months on the job so far he has hired the prodigal son and returned us to Nike (which seems to be the heavily preferred brand amongst athletes and coaches and slightly preferred amongst fans). Though probably a result of his first action, he has also revived football season ticket sales and the waiting list.

My source didn't give me a timeline, just that once the bow is tied on our apparell contract, Jim will want to set the wheels for Warde in motion.

Sorry if this is too much speculation and grounds for negging.

We all saw it. A downvote wasn't enough to express how much I hate this type of comment so I had to tell you. Points mean nothing and are imaginary, my hatred is tangible. I hope it burns hot through the interwebs all the way to wherever you may be. That heat you feel in your lap, that's not you laptop overheating, that's me.

Didn't Brian or Ace or somebody mention Warde as a prime AD candidate right after Brandon was fired? Could we have gotten him at that point in time (with the football program a mess), or should we give Hackett some credit for that as well?

It's not a question of whether we could have gotten Warde to make the jump from UConn to us, it's the question of President Schlissel being comfortable. The concept of an interim AD and the long process to allow the interim person to make these decisions is so the President had time to find someone to make sure he was comfortable and fully bet that candidate. Basically Schlissel admitted he had no experience with athletics and rather than force a shotgun wedding, he wanted to be sure about a comfortable arrangement. If the OP's source is good, then clearly that level of comfort has been reached.

Is Manuel a good choice?

Kinda iffy on the football hirings over at UConn... I guess Kevin Ollie was a great hire. Then again Jim Calhoun pretty much handpicked his successor...

He hired Turner Gill, and they won the MAC East twice in his four years there, and improvement over what they were before.  I can't remember how his basketball team fared overall, but I know I lost plenty of money gambling against them :(

He brought some UM staff/alum with him to Buffalo and UConn, so I'd be curious as to how many of them would make the journey back to A2.

He hired Bob Diaco who's had one year with a tire fire of a roster. He tried to hire Narduzzi before that so he clearly is at least paying attention to up and coming coaches.

Thanks for sticking your neck out.  Get ready for at least ten posts questioning your sources or using "witticisms" such as "friend of my cousin's aunt."

His "source" is the Scout premium board. He's a thief with no sources. You know, he's a want to be. I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. But everytime this clown posts something it's stolen right off of a premium board. Just wanted to call him out... Carry on and good day!

Completely inconceivable that someone who once had a locker in Schembechler Hall and worked in various avenues of the Athletic Department knows the same people that Scout and Rivals and 247 come to for information?

Sometimes when a handful of people know something that a large number of people would like to know but are not privy to, it is uncouth to be the first person to share news that was relayed in confidence. It might be easier to share said information once it has already leaked elsewhere.

Maybe you are bitter about not receiving the texts I receive or not being invited to grab a beer with the people I grab beers with, but if you are willing to trust a man with a Danny Devito avatar, then I can promise you I don't scour other sites to post here. But this is already more character protection than I care to do on the internet. I won't lose sleep over what bluerick thinks of me and my people in the know will still be my friends tomorrow :)
