Permanent AD Candidate Emerging

Submitted by DrMantisToboggan on

My people are saying Hackett is going to work on passing the reigns to Warde Manuel after the Nike deal is announced.

My source is the same as my apparell deal info (which should be announced any time on or after 7/1), someone who works closely with Jim Hackett, and someone I trust until something he tells me proves to not be accurate.

If it's true Hackett will probably ride off into the sunset with an approval rating that rivals Bo. With only 8ish months on the job so far he has hired the prodigal son and returned us to Nike (which seems to be the heavily preferred brand amongst athletes and coaches and slightly preferred amongst fans). Though probably a result of his first action, he has also revived football season ticket sales and the waiting list.

My source didn't give me a timeline, just that once the bow is tied on our apparell contract, Jim will want to set the wheels for Warde in motion.

Sorry if this is too much speculation and grounds for negging.

What is apparell?  Let me guess it must be a new line that Nike is designing exclusively for Michigan when they sign with Nike...did your source give you that info too?

In less than a year, he hired the most sought-after coach in all of football and (likely) made an apparel contract change that by many insiders will significantly effect recruiting in a positive way.  He has earned years of support.  So, after cleaning up some huge messes and earning all the positive support associated with those changes, he may leave the athletic department to an excellent long-term candidate?  I will be disappointed if he ever has to pay for a drink in Ann Arbor again.

I would just rather have Hackett stay in the position. He's done beyond an amazing job. Brandon destroyed the idea of an athletic director coming from the corporate world but Hackett stop that idea in its tracks.

I was hoping Hackett had changed his mind and was going to stay on perfectly. Dude hasn't made a single misstep so far and was working to right a lot of the annoying wrongs that had snuck in. I'm not ready to say goodbye to Hackett yet

If he wants to retire and does retire, than good for him because he has earned it. I just want to know if we can start a kickstarter to have a statue of him made to put somewhere on campus?

Have read the various sources on Mr. Manuel, he seems a solid AD candidate. The problem is that it's to soon for yet another transition. JESUS!!!! How about we let Harbaugh and the rest of the coaches get a 20 months under their belts before we churn the athletic department again. PLEASE

If Mr Hackett has some family or personal issue that forces this, I say okay and thank you. Any other scenario  I say please Mr. Hackett give things another year. You've done an exemplary job. Hell beyond exemplary! I'm tempted to say that you've established a new bar for a Michigan AD.

Obviously you have better data and insight, but we all know that transitions  are destabilizing. Please give your and our school another year.

He couldn't close the deal on getting UConn into the ACC. That's a huge long term blow to UConn that happened on his watch. The AAC conference that UConn joined is largely irrelevant. This is going to have serious repercussions for their basketball program in near-term future.

Brad Bates would be a much better replacement.
