I laughed-- sarcastically-- when, after the game Saturday, the ESPN notification popped up on my phone and said, "Michigan upsets Iowa." I get they were ranked higher, but Michigan was, like you said, a 3-point favorite.
October 6th, 2019 at 11:08 PM ^
I used to like both quite a bit but I've grown tired of them.
Herbstreit seems to be becoming more of an OSU fanboy in recent years. He used to do a very good job of keeping his bias in check but it feels like it's seeping out more lately.
And Fowler seems to be going through the motions the last few years. Maybe it's the effect of having to call so many uncompetitive OSU games. Herbstreit seems to have a clause in his contract allowing him to call as many OSU games as possible and Fowler is stuck along for the ride.
October 7th, 2019 at 12:55 AM ^
It was baaaad with Herbstreit this weekend. I wondered if he had to seek medical attention that night, cuz it surely lasted longer than 4 hours...
October 6th, 2019 at 10:28 PM ^
Well there goes that.
October 6th, 2019 at 10:28 PM ^
Does it being a night game make that much of a difference? We lost to Wisc 35-14 in an 11 AM kickoff game. ?♂️
October 6th, 2019 at 10:36 PM ^
Yes it does. If that was a night game, wisky would have won by 50. So yes it makes a difference especially with this Michigan team and really the Michigan program history of road night games
October 6th, 2019 at 11:47 PM ^
I kindly submit there is no functional difference between losing by 50 and the result of this year's Wisconsin game. The real reason Wisconsin didn't win by 50 is that they decided to stop trying, not because of the 11:00 start time.
Penn State will not show the same compassion if (when?) given the opportunity.
October 7th, 2019 at 12:05 AM ^
True but I think you get my drift...
October 6th, 2019 at 10:32 PM ^
Oh for fucks sake. Guarantee loss.
October 6th, 2019 at 10:34 PM ^
We need to borrow Dantonio's weather machine and turn it into a sludgefest. Same with the OSU game. That's the only chance we have at this point
October 6th, 2019 at 10:35 PM ^
Well.... fuck.
I see the trend of the home team winning by 30 is going to continue this year.
October 6th, 2019 at 10:35 PM ^
Assuming it's a white out at night I expect something in the 27-13 PSU range. If so, I'll be in full apathy mode the rest of the season.
October 6th, 2019 at 10:49 PM ^
This would actually be a very respectable loss. Unfortunately, we beat the tar out of PSU last season and mocked McSorley the whole damn game. This is a revenge tour for PSU and it's a night game white out. I fully expect Franklin to be calling deep shots well into the fourth quarter up 21 points. We are so fucked. It would be a damn miracle if we won.
October 7th, 2019 at 11:53 AM ^
Agreed...
If the final score is 27 - 17 PSU on top, I'll take that as a win. However, I think we're bound to see a more brutal outcome.
October 6th, 2019 at 10:36 PM ^
Not to mention we have to listen to that stupid fuck Herbstreit. Will have to turn off the sound and listen to Brandy screw up the calls
October 6th, 2019 at 10:42 PM ^
I'd rather listen to Herbstreit than Fowler, he loves to take shots at Michigan. Nothing worse than seeing his smug face when we are getting beat.
October 6th, 2019 at 11:02 PM ^
Our performance the last umpteen years, ESPECIALLY on the road, makes it easy for outsiders to have hawt takes and take shots.
Would be nice to actually win a big road game and shut the talking heads the hell up - JH, this is all on YOU! You made Stanford respectable, you took the Niners to the Super Bowl, can we get 1 big road game win in 5 years???
October 6th, 2019 at 10:38 PM ^
Name a more iconic duo. Penn State and Michigan beating the away team into submission.
October 6th, 2019 at 11:11 PM ^
That's a trend of three years? 2015 we won on the road. 2013 we should've. I think there's a stronger correlation of Penn state not being able to do anything in Ann Arbor than there is neither team being able to win on the road
October 7th, 2019 at 7:58 AM ^
Indeed. That's a relatively recent trend that didn't start until 2016.
Also, despite Penn State's white out being considered the greatest thing in the history of the planet, their record in white outs has not been very good.
That doesn't make me feel any better about that game because we don't seem to win any meaningful road games outside of MSU.
October 6th, 2019 at 10:41 PM ^
I thought we already knew this was going to be a night game/Whiteout?
October 6th, 2019 at 10:44 PM ^
Last I heard was a noon kick. The powers that be smell Michigan's blood in the water and those powers want every chance to embarrass this program.
October 6th, 2019 at 10:59 PM ^
I think it’s less of a conspiracy by Michigan haters and more of the fact that ABC puts the White Out game on almost every year. I thought everyone expected this to be their White Out game since the schedule came out.
October 6th, 2019 at 11:45 PM ^
I already knew I was going to be blacked out for this game.
we shall see how Gattis likes being on the other side of a PSU night game
October 6th, 2019 at 10:43 PM ^
Damn. I was really glad this one seemed destined for FOX (with its new predilection to put its best games at noon).
October 6th, 2019 at 10:50 PM ^
Smells like Wisconsin part 2
October 7th, 2019 at 1:22 AM ^
Except this time we win 35-14.
October 7th, 2019 at 1:29 PM ^
How many of that 35 is score by the defense?
October 6th, 2019 at 10:50 PM ^
Jeffery Dean Morgan doesnt look right.
October 6th, 2019 at 10:55 PM ^
Why is a B1G on ABC when Fox has the rights to the B1G conference?
October 6th, 2019 at 11:06 PM ^
The Big Ten has a multi year contract with FOX and ESPN that ends in 2023 or 2024. FOX gets the first pick each year, which has so far been UM-OSU. FOX also gets the B1G championship game. Then it gets a little more complicated. That’s how ABC has had B1G night games the last two weeks.
October 6th, 2019 at 10:55 PM ^
Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.
October 6th, 2019 at 10:59 PM ^
Yeah, and I picked the wrong week to stop taking amphetamines.
October 6th, 2019 at 11:00 PM ^
I was promised a noon game on FOX :(
October 6th, 2019 at 11:08 PM ^
I just assumed it was going to be at night since it’s their white-out game. It definitely hurts our chances as we’ve seen better teams than ours go there and lose. However PSU has only played one decent defense and was held to 17 points. We are way better than Pitt and if our defense can just make a couple of plays and if the offense can do the same, we have a good shot at beating them. I just don’t think they are as good as most people think.
I’m way more concerned about the ND and OSU games.
October 7th, 2019 at 9:47 AM ^
At least the ND and OSU games are at the big house. Fans will help pump the team up.
October 6th, 2019 at 11:10 PM ^
Goddamnit!
October 6th, 2019 at 11:17 PM ^
Definitely no point in watching it now.
October 6th, 2019 at 11:26 PM ^
You guys are a bunch of sad sorry fucks.
I mean yeah we're gonna lose but...
October 7th, 2019 at 1:40 AM ^
Sad sorry fucks = Realists. The game will be over after a quarter and a half. Book it.
October 6th, 2019 at 11:26 PM ^
Shit. We still have PSU, ND, MSU and OSU on the schedule. Gonna be a long season.
October 6th, 2019 at 11:35 PM ^
That's fuckin' SICK.
October 6th, 2019 at 11:54 PM ^
Again with the negative waves, Moriarty.
It's college football. No one knows how two groups of 20 year olds are going to react to the moment. Lately, we've had a string of "we can't have nice things" events. Seriously, no explanation other than pure PTSD would have caused anyone to expect, oh say for example...Shea being as terrible running this offense as he has been. But, we forget that randomness is well, random. We think that the recent history of Michigan-PSU with the visiting team getting run off the field is a foregone conclusion. What about the recent history of Michigan-MSU with the visiting team winning in the darndest fashion you ever saw?
I'm not saying we will win in Happy Valley for sure. I am saying is that everyone in this crazy sport is rolling the dice every game. (Except Alabama. They have a pact with Satan, but I digress...) So drink your little drink; smoke your little smoked meat, and enjoy the game. We are privileged to be able to care so deeply about how well a group of young adults plays an inherently meaningless game wearing laundry with which we have an emotional attachment.
October 7th, 2019 at 6:40 PM ^
+1 for the Kelly's Heroes reference.
October 6th, 2019 at 11:54 PM ^
Stupid double post.
October 7th, 2019 at 12:19 AM ^
This should not be something we complain about. Michigan should be (and i honestly feel IS, if they would just believe it and perform to their abilities) good enough to win these games.
Night or day, home or away.
October 7th, 2019 at 12:27 AM ^
Ok. We SHOULD be good enough to beat a schedule of the top 9 teams in the B1G every year. Doesn’t mean it’s not good for the season to throw a Rutgers and an Illinois in there on occasion. No need to be a tough guy and make things harder than necessary.
October 7th, 2019 at 12:21 AM ^
I've gone to Penn State for a night game whiteout and watched Michigan win! What's that? Oh yes, it was well over a decade ago...
October 7th, 2019 at 12:24 AM ^
So this Saturday the ABC prime time game is PSU @ Iowa. One would think they wouldn’t want PSU two weeks in a row but they did Ohio State both of the last two weeks so it actually makes sense now. Fuck
