Unless he were to coach at the University of Hawaii.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:16 PM ^
No, no...
Shitting rainbows is only an NCAA violation if they are seen by the student-athletes themselves- Patterson goes out of his way to make sure it's only their parents that get a glimpse of his beautiful dumps so he's clean as a whistle...
January 7th, 2011 at 6:15 PM ^
Only if the rainbow shit lasted 20 minutes over allowed.

Brandon Graham seems to support Les MIles to Michigan.

Philip Seymour Hoffman coaches the Frogs?
January 7th, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
PSH called...he wants his face back. It never clicked for me as to why I kept thinking of Truman Capote and suspected nefarious priests whenever I saw Patterson's face...that is, until you cut through the Gordian Knot for me with that astute observation.
Imaginary points to you, friend.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
Patterson would be my first choice on the list, but it's starting to look like it's Miles. Jet in Baton Rouge to talk to the LSU president/Miles' agent. Just seems like it's piling up towards him as the guy.
At least with Miles you know he'll hire the right assistants (ala Bo Pelini). But I would much prefer Patterson.
January 7th, 2011 at 7:29 PM ^
When we are allowed to give points again, you will have one from me for Shitting Rainbows.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
I'd still like to take a swing at Stoops or Mullen.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:04 PM ^
Seriously, why does Stoops always come up in coaching searches? I can understand why he'd want to leave his coach for life postion, a program on autopilot, and a huge salary to take a step down and pursue a rebuilding job, but he's not a Michigan grad.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
Yeah that never makes any sense to me either, is OU lacking in something?

It's not just U of M, all the top programs fans act like this--even when they're falling apart.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:53 PM ^
there was about 10years of pain.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:37 PM ^
I really hope you aren't saying the new hire HAS to be a Michigan grad.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:40 PM ^
I'll open the search to satellite campuses. Flint, FTW!
January 7th, 2011 at 6:53 PM ^
The upside to this is that it rules out Ball State grad Hoke.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
I don't understand why no-one except Brian is advocating Mullen. I think he's a better choice than Patterson by far.
With TCU's move to the Big East, TCU gives Patterson an easier path to the BCS every year than Michigan would. And TCU's football budget is bigger than Michigan's. Plus, he's been there ten years. If I were him, I'd stay where I was, even if I thought that the Michigan job was, in theory, a better one.
Mullen has far more motivation to come to UM than Patterson does. He has a low ceiling for achievement at Miss. St. Even if he does the greatest coaching job in history, he still won't move Miss. St. into the top half of the SEC. Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Tennessee will always be more prestigious than Miss. St., no matter how great Mullen might be. The best he can hope to do is move Miss. St. past Ole Miss. Woo-hoo.
I think Mullen is the South-to-North version of Nick Saban (except I have no reason to think he's an a-hole). Just as Saban left a low-ceiling program at MSU (note the coincidence) to move to underachieving LSU, Mullen can leave Miss. St. and revive the sleeping giant of the Big Ten.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:30 PM ^
1. He wasn't interested in the Florida job, which makes me think for some odd reason he's happy in Mississippi
2. Manny Diaz is off to Texas. For me, a large part of Mullen's appeal was the likelihood of Manny Diaz coming with him to fix our defense. With Diaz gone, it's a bit of a gamble similar to when Rich Rod came to Michigan without Casteel.
For the record, I would still prefer Mullen to just about anyone else out there besides Patterson.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:36 PM ^
I think his apparent inability to bring Diaz with him is a big problem.
I'm not so persuaded by his disinterest in the Florida job. Following Urban Meyer is going to be a god-awful task. The risk of failure and ridicule is so high. In addition, the Florida AD (Foley?) is supposed to be a real pain in the ass. I can understand why he'd pass on that.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:40 PM ^
but does he sit in on film sessions with the coaches?
January 7th, 2011 at 6:49 PM ^
If he's worried about failing to live up to fans' unrealistic expectations and being ridiculed, the Michigan job is probably even worse than the Florida job. Just ask RR.
January 7th, 2011 at 7:09 PM ^
between following Rich Rodriguez (at Michigan) and following Urban Meyer.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:43 PM ^
Yes, because nothing could be more unrealistic than hoping the winningest program in the country avoids a losing record.
SEC fans are on a completely different level of obsession than we are.
January 8th, 2011 at 2:25 AM ^
Diaz to Texas? Why am I not surprised. That program always has to take its wallet and poach the hottest DCs in the country from other schools.
Making Mack Brown look good is not cheap job.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:48 PM ^
Mullin was my first choice all along.

I think you are right on.

Dear Harbaugh,
I hope you flip your bike over and knock your two front teeth out! You selfish son of a bitch! You leave the program in the trenches taking grenades, Jim!

embrace the humor. end the anger.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
I just don't feel that way. Doesn't he have kids from first marriage on Left Coast? And wife from there? And if he wants to coach in the NFL, more power to him. I would have loved to have him because I think he would have done a great job, but I don't feel the anger.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:17 PM ^
i never considered harbaugh even an option. i just felt like throwing in a statement that fits how people are acting lately.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:42 PM ^
I'm pretty sure he has kids from his first marriage who live in CA with his ex-wife. I was always going to feel weird about him coming to Ann Arbor given that he would likely have had to leave them there.
January 7th, 2011 at 7:16 PM ^
It's not like the life of an NFL coach leaves any real time to be a father for 9 months out of the year.
January 7th, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
are in San Diego area other than his kid in college in the northwest. Not sure how often he sees them anyways.
It might have played somewhat of a factor but the reality is, his dream was not to come to Michigan like he represented
January 7th, 2011 at 6:17 PM ^
he is doing. My fear was that if he had come here, he would be dumping us in 2 or 3 years for the NFL. So, might as well not even go down that path. Let's try to get someone who will be here 8 or 10 years.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
I agree. I never wanted him in the first place. Not after his snide comments, then not once refusing he would take the Michigan job so that everyone reached down their polyester pants and played with their own trouser snake when....yup "Got you again Michigan...(evil laugh)"!
January 7th, 2011 at 6:34 PM ^
"I didn't want those grapes, anyway they're probably sour"
Now, don't ask me why a fox would be trying to reach grapes, but that is not the point of this fable. So there you go.
I do wish that JH had tipped his hand earlier. He has to have known that A) he would get NFL offers, B) he would accept an NFL offer over a UM offer, and C) that we went through DB's ridiculous waiting game all in hope sof getting him. On second thought, you're right, F him.
January 7th, 2011 at 7:12 PM ^
Traitor. Mercenary. Fuckhead. JH can go burn in hell. Fuck him and fuck the 49ers.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:54 PM ^
Michigan Men by choice, not by negotiation.
Harbaugh can go knockheads against Carroll for 2x a year. If he washed out in 3 years, then it's back to the NCAAs. I have no desire to ever hear of Harbaugh again.
If this was, his belief, that it was one chance to get a NFL, then he's a Mercenary Man, NOT a Michigan Man.
