think the PAC 12 should focus on convinving people that their undefeated team should be in the playoff.  Stick with that for the time being.

OK, maybe we can let the PAC 12 have this one. BUT, in return, they need to agree that Oregon's uniforms are a direct assault on fashion and basic human decency, and that Oregon has to pick ONE uniform and stick with it for 5 years. And that one uniform has to look like it wasn't designed by a blind clown...

I know. You'd think with all that Nike money, they could find a fashion designer who wasn't trying to give us all epileptic seizures like some kind of perverse Japanese cartoon?

just too much of what was originally a good thing.  The Uniformz kind of gave Oregon a calling card, it was their thing and it was cool for a while.  Some of the gear was actually pretty nice and clever.  Then they got into this thing where they kept trying to out-do themselves and that is where things took a turn.  Right now, I could not even tell you what Oregon's "real" uniforms actually look like, of if they have such a thing.

Where's the proposal to ban head football coachs from operating the down marker at a high school football game played more than 50 miles from coach's home campus?  I'm sure that one's coming.

The children are the grown adults acting like children because they know that if Jim Harbaugh is allowed to practice or run camps in good weather where kids all across the north and south would love to practice and he (Harbaugh) be able to recruit from these camps? Then it's Katy bar the door, Michigan will be winning NC's like Alabama except more. This is why the children they're looking out for are not the one's they should be worried about.

I'd move to ban teams from playing in games that start after 3:30 eastern. These 8PM pacific games are bad for the children. The PAC-12 should be starting their games at 12 EST just like the rest of the country. Who cares if it's 9AM in California.

On to the next plan im sure. It also doesnt appear(from this article) that this proposal would prevent someone from packing up the tutors and going during classes if they wanted.

That was my first thought, Coach will just grab 40 tutors and hit the road, maybe a practice in 5 different states just to make sure they realize that the rule doesn't work. And think of all the free advertising he would get from the mothership and their friends at the SEC Network. It will be epic.

All these people spend their time worrying about what Coach did in the past, he spends his time thinking up what he will do in the future. It's your classic, they are playing checkers and he is playing chess situation.

They crafted that proposal in a way that keeps spring break trip alive for other sports by adding the "away or neutral-site games" clause.

That's the part that made no sense about this proposal. So many other NCAA sports take spring or summer trips during vacation. Why would you need to bar this unless it is out of pure selfishness? So I guess the next step is that Michigan should schedule their Spring Game in Florida?

Why would that language only affect football?  All the other sports are "teams" and compete in various different places. The only word in the proposal that doesn't translate exactly is "games" .  Other sports like tennis, golf and track compete in matches, tournaments and meets.  Still regardless of what you call them, they are the equivalent of a game as they are competing against other institutions.  The out of season point may be the one thing that protects the other sports, but not necessarily all of them.

I can tell you this.  My son and his teammates (golf) will be pissed if their spring trip gets shit-canned because of some petty complaint aimed at protecting a few football programs.

The fact that they use the word "game" explicitly (assuming the USA Today article is quoting verbatim) indicates that this is specifically aimed at football. Of course, you can further assume that it is equivalent to "competition" to be inclusive of other sports.

Other than that one word, the proposal seems carefully worded to allow for trips that baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, softball, etc. will take during and outside the season to participate in scrimmages and exhibitions, while getting the additional practice in. I'm guessing the one example given in the USA Today article (Harbaugh, Michigan) is literally the one example that exists.

Does not exist in FBS, but it does exist in lower divisions.

Found an interesting and relevant article from 2010 that quotes some coaches in favor of and against preseason college football games.

For? Oregon State coach Mike Riley, Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez, and Indiana coach Bill Lynch.

Against? Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh.

Terrified of Jim and Michigan right now, even though we keep being close-to-dismissed when it comes to the national "journalists". The PAC-12 is worried about next spring - Harbaugh is worried about the next game.

Okay, so perhaps not "terrified." But wouldn't you agree that Harbaugh taking a team from 5-7 to contending for a playoff spot in 2 years is making the SEC, Pac-12, and every other program in the country extremely agitated about what he's going to do next? He's made Michigan Football more visible than anyone outside of a handful of others - and it's attracting the nation's top recruits for the effort.

This is the PAC12 trying to protect the players from evil coaches who steal their free time by taking them on an all expenses paid trip to a warm environment to practice and bond as a team, all during a break from practices.

Think of the children people.

The Spring Trip had other positives even if they were not the originally intended purposes. It was a nice reward for the players to get an all-expense paid trip to Florida and have spring practices in good weather. And it gave them more free time for Finals by moving practices to Spring Break which some players actually preferred.

mGrowOld

That's really the issue.  The warm weather states want no part of coming to the midwest/north during spring break so they want to stop the schools from that part of the country coming their way.  It's so transparent it's almost funny.

They should recraft their proposal to read "We've had an advantadge - weather wise - for as long as football has been played and we have no interest in sharing it with others.  Please stop trying to level the playing field."

The sad thing is the NCAA, being in the back pocket of the SEC, will prolly oblige.

Let all of the conferences keep churning out band-aid proposals and nit-picky rules to stop Michigan. At some point I expect Harbaugh and Manuel to lead a PR campaign of changes to address all of the truly negative issues associated with recruiting. It will be fun to see the NCAA and the other conferences  succomb to public opinion and finally reform.

Let the PAC/SEC/ACC dig giant PR holes for themselves later, at which point Harbaugh can steamroll them into those graves later.  Point out their cronyism and hypocrisy and just continue full speed ahead while they're stuck being blubbering bafoons in the eyes of the public and anyone with a grasp on reality.
