over/under

Submitted by Maize and Luke on

I started thinking about this Sunday but after seeing Jamele's little "we own you" I thought I would see what my fellow mgobloggers think.

Assuming (and it's a big assumption) that Dantonio & Harbaugh are still coaching for the next 10 years how many times will UM beat sparty?  If I set the over/under at 6.5 what will you take?  Personally I'd take the over.  Do the same for OSU and put the over/under at 5.5 I might just avoid this one all together.  But if I had to choose I'd take the under as I can see these two rivals splitting the next 10.

MSU will start winning once every 4 years like they used to do. 7-3 would be my guess. Unless something drastic happens and they have a mass exodus of players/coaches (ie; Dantonio to South Carolina - hey. it could happen), then it could be 8-2 or 9-1.

So I'll be generous and say that he gets the next two in AA and loses the next two in EL before he goes back to the NFL.

Again I'll be generous and say your next coach comes in and goes 2-4 against MSU leaving a 10 year record of 4-6.

He CHOSE Michigan over the NFL for a reason. Ann Arbor is special to him. More than any amount of money can change. The guy isn't a typical human. Our head coach wears CLEATS as a HEAD COACH. He's not going back to the league, but you're entitled to your opinion, even if it's wrong, you're still entitled to it.

and say we'll go 7-3 over the next 10 years against Sparty and 5-5 against OSU.  putting it in my calendar for November 28th 2025 so I can come back on MGoBlog and brag about how I nailed this prediction

Once we get a typical Harbaugh offensive line full of NFL types, like he had at Stanford, then we will be very difficult to stop. It's clear we've got a couple years to go before we get there. Once that happens, MSU wins will be few and far between. Who will be MSU's QB next year anyway?

This is really important! We all saw how difficult Harbaugh had stopping the spread with developing OL. But in his last year, and the subsequent years with Shaw, Stanford dominated Oregon in the trenches and pulled out wins. MSU game on Saturday too was heavily influenced by the slime pressures of both teams. Once again, it all comes down to the trenches

But MSU beat Stanford when that type of OL was faced with MSU D.  MSU doesnt play the same offense as Oregon nor is "soft" like Oregon so no idea why its a comparsion - if they were TCU maybe thats a talking point..

Line play will be critical; MSU DL recruitment in this class might be top 5 in the country  - they obviously emphasize D.  And they had a huge haul in the 14 class too. We said this in 2012 and 2013 when OSU was rolling in sick DL lines in 'crooting and we rolled in sick lines on OL, we need to match to compete.  That didnt work out so well.

So we are saying it again.  At least we have real coaches now.

came down to Conner Cook playing Tecmo Bowl for 4 hours.  Our defensive line was putting up tents and selling fruit in the MSU backfield.  It just so happened that Cook as better than anybody knew and can fit the football into 2 foot windows off of his back foot with regularity.  Goodbye Conner.  It sucked knowing you.

For MSU game it's going to start to come down to QB play - which team has the better one almost every year.  This was one of the best defenses @ UM in 25 years and at home and without a QB of high value it was still a crazy dogfight that could have went either way.

Cousins was a NFL QB, Hoyer is, Cook is.  They have a bunch of 4 star guys in the pipeline too and I am sure 1 of them will be competent and at minimum fringe NFL.  Maxwell was their only bust in Dantonios tenure and that was all of 1 yr. So they have a track record of development at that position now on top of the OL, D, rb, etc.  We need a QB tracking to the NFL too since they seem to churn them out every year now ex 2012.

I do think '16 sets up well for UM as MSU finally loses a ton of talent along with Cook.  Yes its been said every year but this year seriously (Cook, Allen, Calhoun, Burbridge, Drummond, Davis, Thomas, Harris and 90% Conklin leaves).  Yes road game and all but football is about lines + QB so we'll see who has a better QB next year.  Plus we bring 90% of our 2 lines back so we'll be older than them for the first time since 2011 on the lines.

Also at his age he is not lasting 10 yrs, he is 59 and looks like he aged 5 yrs since Harbaugh arrived.

With OSU its going to be a dogfight until either coach leaves their school; you could make the claim those will be 2 of the top 3 coaches in the country.  Id split it even.

MSU peeps were freaking out when Smoker went to the NFL, when Stanton went to the NFL, when Hoyer went to the NFL, when Cousins went to the NFL, and now when Cook will go to the NFL. There is a track record of QB development at this program and that skillset won't just disappear because of Harbaugh.

Yes, really. Smoker was MSU's all-time passing leader up until a few years ago. Long story short, I am not worried about the QB position for next year. There are 4 potential possibilities (like 2013) and 1 of them will take the job.

been more certain that Harbaugh is going to completely lay waste to the Big Ten than I am right now.  Sparty ought not to have done that.  Serious pain to ensue.  Michigan is not losing another game this season and Harbaugh is not going to rest until Michigan State and the rest of the Big Ten is literally begging for mercy.  Think Prince Oberyn's death from Game of Thrones.  That is State for the next ten years.

Not losing again. Thank you for the fodder that we can now feed this team to beat Ohio State.

Prior to the MSU game, I was concerned that our team wasn't as good as their stats (3 shutouts, 5-1 record... Dominant defense)... But after watching that game... I'm convinced this team is better than what any of us thought. They are for real. Is Michigan back? No. They are better than "back".

are.  Far before State cashed in their lottery ticket at the end of that game, the refs seriously handed it to them.  I am never "blame the refs" guy but the calls in that game dictated the outcome.  True story.  Basically every MSU drive was kept a live by a big phantom penalty that let them control field position to a much greater extent than they ever should have.  The fact that none of the calls were on "scoring plays" is beside the point.  The refs called everything for State and dictacted the game.  The fact that Michgian overcame to have the game in their hands was a miracle in its own right.  Michigan is two touchdowns better than State right now.

You would think karma would be coming for those bastards especially they way some of them have been talking after this game. Doesn't seem like Michigan can catch any breaks.

two days, no question.  I have taken it about as hard as anybody.  However, State is going to look back upon this event as the day the music died.  That was their apex, that was their Everest.  The beast is awake now.  They got his attention.  And Michigan just got 10 years of bad luck rolled into one afternoon.  Dantonio should get out now.  It is going to ugly.

No, Dantonio... Please stay. Do not take the USC (South Carolina) job. I want to see Michigan crush him next year... And the next year... I don't want him to have any health issues, I want him to be at his best. I hope MSU has a competent QB behind Cook, another Burbridge... LJ Scott is still there... I want them at their best in EL next year.

literally does not matter what State puts on the field or who their coach is.  If Michigan fans thought Dantonio hated them, I think it is going to be a little jarring to see what Harbaugh is going to do to State during his career at Michigan after what happened on Saturday.  He is going to run it up, and I am going to smile the entire time.

Just keep all this bullshit tucked away, from dantonio's moment of silence, pride before the fall, where's the threat, talking shit after leaving the field, this ugly bitch, and fatass Valenti.

The days of reckoning will be here soon.

Lol. This past Saturday was one of the best things that could have happened. Harbaugh will be THAT much more focused on destroying Dabtonio and restoring order. Trust me, next 10 years will be no less that 8 wins for Michigan
