OT:Ace @Chat sports / Tshirt ethics
Anybody else sick of this guy.
This guy needs an attorney letter from Shemmy Hall.
Brian politely took down his designs based on trademark (broad def) in the MGoBlog Store last year. Chatsports is out pushing a Denard shadow dreads t-shirt complete with winged helmet.
This is futher proof he is not an insider. No insider would blatently rip off UM trademarks for their own benefit because they would know where their bread is buttered.

who cares?
September 15th, 2011 at 2:29 PM ^
September 15th, 2011 at 2:34 PM ^
I had no idea what ChatSports was until just now.
September 15th, 2011 at 2:46 PM ^
He's a hack!
Delete.
September 15th, 2011 at 2:53 PM ^
sent a tweet to him a while back asking him about some misinformation he was putting out on recruits. He responded by blocking me on Twitter, oh the pain!!
September 15th, 2011 at 3:08 PM ^
Didn't everyone see the piece (linked on here I believe) that identified him as a former SIgEp (aka loser) with a fake name, fake picture, fake everything?
Guy had access at one point, and then lost it. This was long before he ever started writing for chatsports. He rips 90% of his stuff off Rivals.
September 15th, 2011 at 3:52 PM ^
Haha.
September 15th, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
Is the winged helmet a trademark?
Edit: Not that care, but it also seems like he's giving them away for free...so where's the beef?
September 15th, 2011 at 4:01 PM ^
it is trademarked and using it to promote the site is the same as selling them. They say Chatsports on the shirt.
If you remember Brian had to yank the shoelace shirt last year because of the player image.
You cannot use the winged helmet, block M and any likeness. About as close as you can get is just a number.
September 15th, 2011 at 4:18 PM ^
I'm not trying to argue with you, I just don't understand how it could be trademarked if Delaware uses it too...
September 15th, 2011 at 5:42 PM ^
There are a ton of high school teams that use it, including three in Michigan that are nicknamed "Wolverines"
http://www.michiganhelmetproject.org/get-helmets/?nickName=Wolverines
September 15th, 2011 at 5:54 PM ^
Thus is my point, how can it be trademarked if others make use of it? Wouldn't that be illegal in some form??
Guess this is why I wasn't a law major.
September 16th, 2011 at 9:45 AM ^
If you watch the first Countdown to Kickoff video from this year (or maybe it was last year's), they showed how our helmets are made. Even though other colleges and high schools have similar looking winged helmets, Michigan's "wing" is unique and only used on our helmets. The others are all slightly different.

I met him at the game on Saturday. One of the people I went to the game with was "friends" with him. So we were "invited" over to his tailgate with the promise of beer and food.
Anyway - when we got there, the first thing he did was ask us for a beer.
Guy is a douche.
"Cool Story Bro!"
September 15th, 2011 at 4:53 PM ^
Chat Sports had 5+ people at game giving out T's.
Never asked you for a beer nor was anyone at the tailgate I was at that I didnt know.
Quit making stuff up pal.
Ace
September 15th, 2011 at 5:12 PM ^
Since you're here, why don't you address the trademark issue for us? This is your chance to "enlighten" a bunch of people who apparently see you as a douchebag. Since you already used mgoblog for a personal beef, why not be the professional that you portray yourself to be and address what everyone here seems to want to hear from you?
If you play it right, you might make a few thousand friends. If you play it wrong, you really have nothing to lose because your name is sorta mud here anyway from what I have seen.
At any rate, I would imagine that there are plenty of people here who have already emailed David Brandon about your possible trademark infringement. So I guess we'll find out soon enough anyway.

Guys,
The shirt is not mine. I do not work for the company. Chat Sports is a media startup based in California.
I write for them once a week. I dont get paid. I dont sell T shirts. To the best of my knowledge, they do not sell the t shirts. For promotional reasons only they printed a few thousand shirts for MIchigan, Browns, Penn State, Packers, Yankees etc etc and have writers/interns pasing them out to fans.
I have nothing to do with this nor do I care, just trying to promote getting a FREE t shirt. No one is selling them.
To the guy Josh S who claims to have met me, total lies so why dont we call him out.= for being fake?
I am not sure why the hate for a Michigan grad who is giving very good info out about the team? I have friends in the AD, they have the shirt in Schemb Hall! I am very connected and have several family members who were varsity athletes at Michigan. Hope everyone enjoys my content going forward.
FYI I used to only send out an email with info from 2002-2007. Many of you I am sure got it and loved it. Now since I publish it, you are mad?
Email me if anyone had any gripes or praises: [email protected] follow me on twitter http://www.twitter.com/chatsportsace
September 15th, 2011 at 6:40 PM ^
Maizeman?
I don't think you're "very connected" unless you conisider ripping off information from premium sites as being connected.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:13 PM ^
Actually "pal", you did.

It's true that you didn't give me one of your shirts, but you did try to convince us to meet you at the browns tailgate the next morning.

September 15th, 2011 at 5:20 PM ^
There were 6 people at the game promoting the website from the company Josh. I was tailgating in the Victors lot with only people I knew.
You must be mistaking me with someone else. Get your facts straight. And I wasnt at a Browns game, never been to Cleveland or Browns game in my life! Are you making this up?
September 15th, 2011 at 5:25 PM ^
Evidently someone in your company is impersonating you then.
Either way, at the "Chat Sports" tailgate, there was an older guy handing out shirts and taking beers for "payment". Whoever it was "impersonating" you got to meet a hot reporter from fox sports. They got you some air time.
The shirts that "you" handed out to my group, you cand find them in the garbage walking towards the stadium.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:30 PM ^
unreal
September 15th, 2011 at 9:22 PM ^
is funny: 'I doubt anyone claimed to be Ace.' Although sure to be marked flaimbait etc, I can appreciate that Ace has shown up here to defend himself. You can make your own decisions about his 'insider info' and whatnot, but at least he is defending himself in a non douchebag fashion. I don't personally read his site, as I have no time after reading every word of mgoblog, but if you do read it, why not let everyone form their own opinion of the validity of the information?
September 15th, 2011 at 10:14 PM ^
I think you mean that a 14 year old with a mom named Linda showed up to defend Ace, assuming Brian is to be believed.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:41 PM ^
Are you slow? I dont wor for Chat Sports. I write a blog for them once a week.
I am an engineer, live in New York. Are you sure you know what is going on?
September 15th, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
When you meet someone at the chat sports tailgate, and they say "I'm Ace", I don't interrogate them to make sure they are who they say they are.

If it wasn't you, then I apologize for calling you a douche.

Whoever it was, definitely qualifies though.
September 15th, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
and asked around to see if anyone had a handle on your story.
That wasnt my tailgate but I did hear that there was a guy who came with someones friends who got mad because he was too fat and didnt get a t shirt. Was that you? Sounds like personal problems bud, dont take it out on me. Never met you. Keep it classy.
September 15th, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
You are complete trash, Ace.
September 15th, 2011 at 10:55 PM ^
Classy coming from a guy whose "inside sources" kept being wrong. Go back to reporting UCLA or whatever you used to do. Whatever it was, its just as big of a waste as your crappy CS blog on Michigan.
September 15th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
He gave a shirt to the DP Show and they tweeter out his site because everyone was asking where to get the shirt.
September 15th, 2011 at 4:09 PM ^
on the show the other day, thought it was cool... not anymore.
September 15th, 2011 at 4:14 PM ^
What the hell is up with the name Ace on this board? I've never seen it or heard of it outside of Ace Venture and Ace and Gary.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:12 PM ^
if it weren't for the advertising on the back.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
That design was absolutely used without the university's permission. Whether or not they hunt down this scrub is another story.
I'll tell you one thing, if we had permission to use the helmet and dreads together (even with a license it's off limits), I'd blow that design outta the water.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
Yeah, the design kind of sucked.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
what you'd do with the concept, because I know it'd be astounding. But I know that's not going to happen.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:45 PM ^
Ace Williams is 14 years old and goes to school in Metro Detroit. His mother's name is Linda.
September 15th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
HALOL
September 15th, 2011 at 10:30 PM ^
owned. Well done, Brian.
September 15th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
shouldn't have used a k12.mi.us email to sign up here.
September 15th, 2011 at 6:30 PM ^
clearly says [email protected] Brian. You confusing me with an impersonator?
September 15th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
I think the only acceptable proof would be for your mom to join and let us know that her name isn't Linda.
September 16th, 2011 at 1:28 AM ^
Is that it? I feel like this a great movie with a unfinished ending. I feel cheated.
September 16th, 2011 at 9:19 AM ^
I'm incredibly confused by all of this. Apparently I need to waste even more time on line to get up to speed.
September 16th, 2011 at 9:54 AM ^
Guys, this has just been an awesome start to my Friday. Brian, thank you for pulling the rug out from under "Ace." This thread just got better and better as I kept scrolling down. Man, I love this place!
