OT - your go to work lunch
So while earning my Podcast Endurance Badge from Sunday's podcast I was struck by Dave describing his go-to-weekday lunch as kale, red cabbage, carrots and dressing. However I realized that my go-to lunch during the week isn't much more exciting, and I eat it most days. What's your bring-from-home go to lunch? do you get your whole day's worth of veggies like Dave?
February 27th, 2019 at 1:25 PM ^
I'm a sandwich-and-yogurt eater most weekdays.
Turkey (often flavored, today's was cajun), cheese (I'm not picky, today's was muenster), lettuce or spinach if I have it and various spicy mustards on wheat.
My go to yogurt is Chobani's peanut butter dream
I gotta get out of my rut... anyone make anything good?
February 27th, 2019 at 1:35 PM ^
Yeah, you trade wanna trade for my ham & mustard sandwich and black cherry Activia yogurt? I bet Activia will get you out of your rut.
February 27th, 2019 at 2:43 PM ^
Pretty sure Activia is intended for women lol

Coke Zero
February 27th, 2019 at 2:29 PM ^
Ha! This used to be my go to until I got married (the 2nd time because my first wife's cooking sucked and she didn't like me doing it).
Now it is leftovers...and ironically, one main thing I love is something I hated as a kid: Tuna Noodle Casserole. Not sure why, but hers is amazing.
February 27th, 2019 at 3:14 PM ^
Tuna noodle casserole is foul.
February 27th, 2019 at 3:20 PM ^
Actually, it is fish...although it IS the "Chicken of the Sea". LOL

TNC with crushed potato chips on top....yum!
February 27th, 2019 at 1:27 PM ^
Veggies to snack on, and a freshly blended juice usually kale/pineapple/mango/ginger/tumeric combo. I keep it light. Don’t worry I’m not all granola, I view squirrels as speed bumps, and am on my third chew by noon.
February 27th, 2019 at 2:56 PM ^
Nasty ass shit brutus. But I will absolutely have this at lunch over my chicken and rice bullshit
February 27th, 2019 at 1:27 PM ^
I got my first big boy post-college job today and it's a catered lunch with a chef every day and we're paid to eat! I get time and a half just for an hour lunch on top of a 40 hour work week.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:29 PM ^
Dayum boy, get yourself some. Lump crab in tomatoe bisque? Suishi? Taco bar? Mix in a little MLax and you got it made, let’s trade jobs.

Are they aware that you take Friday's off during football season to mentally prepare for the game the following day?
/s
sorry man, had to
February 27th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
There is no need for the "/s."
February 27th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
To be fair, that was when I worked at UPS in college part time so the schedule was really flexible.
February 27th, 2019 at 3:25 PM ^
Um where do you work? Asking for a friend.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:51 PM ^
WD, if you're out of college and the "job" is in your field ... it's not a job, it's the first position of your career. Also, congrats on the nice hookup! Few places have those types of benefits anymore (catered lunch etc.).
February 27th, 2019 at 1:51 PM ^
They grow up so fast!
February 27th, 2019 at 2:12 PM ^
nice, wd.
February 27th, 2019 at 2:49 PM ^
Pro tip (from my college days): bring baggies, line pockets, fill baggies, free munchies for when you toke up later!
February 27th, 2019 at 1:30 PM ^
we get free lunch and a ton of selections, but normally I just get spinach salad w/ grilled chicken from the salad bar
February 27th, 2019 at 1:34 PM ^
...bag of cheddar popcorn & h20
February 27th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
That is the only type of popcorn I can consistently eat. Adding cheese to something makes it better! Who would have thought?
February 27th, 2019 at 5:38 PM ^
The best way to make cheesecorn is to take the cheese dust from a box of Kraft Mac&Cheese and put it on a bag of popcorn. Shake and enjoy.
Lunch for me is 95% leftovers. For the most part, dinners are made with leftovers in mind because they make lunch that much easier. If I do go out, I often hit the grocery store and make what I call "3 bean salad". Chickpeas, kidney beans, edamame, wasabi peas, sunflower seeds, some bacon bits for smoke, croutons or sesame sticks for crunch. Toss with a little red wine vinegar and no post lunch bloat/ sleepiness.
February 27th, 2019 at 8:27 PM ^
Leftovers for me at nearly same percent. Did “marching taco” other day with turkey taco meet, couple slices of cheese, and a bag of Fritos, zapped a minute.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:34 PM ^
Quinoa, cucumbers, tomatoes, baby peppers (the ones that a little bit spicy), chickpeas, and homemade hummus. Layer it in a glass tupperware. At work I toss it all in a bowl and add a bit of olive oil and salt. Delicious.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:35 PM ^
Yep - I make a salad. 1/4 cabbage slaw 1/2 romaine chopped celery and carrots, tomatoes, sliced brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, 1/2 chicken breast cubed, with sliced toasted almonds and cranberries add italian or balsamic vinagrette dressing Sometimes avocado, sometimes pickled beets, sometimes radishes, cucumbers and bell peppers, sometimes sliced hardboiled eggs.
I've been pretty consistent since my heart attack.
Carrots and celery sticks with hummus and some fruit for a snack.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:46 PM ^
I enjoy hummus with many vegetables, but celery is good with only peanut butter.
February 27th, 2019 at 2:29 PM ^
It is good with cream cheese, too.
February 27th, 2019 at 2:33 PM ^
Mr. E Q; Was not aware of your health condition. Sounds like you are doing a good job of taking care of yourself. Definitely go easy on the Founders Backwoods. Have a great day!!!
February 27th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
Good to hear ?. My dad had a heart attack when he was 58, then had stent put in. He lived a full and active life until he passed away at the age of 96 in 2017. Always a pleasure to hear from you. Still no news on why I'm not getting mgo points.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:35 PM ^
My wife is a fantastic cook so her leftovers which I prefer to most of the takeout options around my office.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:38 PM ^
Like, Subway or something.
February 27th, 2019 at 2:50 PM ^
Dude, subs are way too crazy for a work lunch. Save those for big-time celebrations.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
This isn't my go to lunch, but I do love taking a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which gets placed in the fridge to chill. The proper way to feast on PB&J sandwiches is to absolutely load the two pieces of bread with jelly and peanut butter. The jelly should be more than the peanut butter, too. Then it must be chilled. When eating, you know it's enough jelly when it starts to drip from the sandwich.
There is absolutely no other way to make and eat one, which is a fact. If you don't do it like I, then you are doing it the wrong way. None of this peanut butter and banana nonsense. That is fine if you take a banana and put some peanut butter on it, but those two do not belong in a sandwich together. Again...this is a fact.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:44 PM ^
Damn, you're even annoying when you talk about lunch.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
That is gross.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:46 PM ^
Peanut butter and jelly?
February 27th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
That much jelly.
Also, I only like PB&J if it's eaten immediately, before all the ingredients have a chance to mush themselves into each other and the jelly starts seeping into the pores of the bread.
February 27th, 2019 at 1:51 PM ^
So, you're admitting to doing it the wrong way. Well, maybe you'll learn some day.
February 27th, 2019 at 2:34 PM ^
lightly peanut butter both slices of bread and put jelly in between which will keep the jelly from oozing into the pores when left for a few hours. Doesn't help your issues with them mushing together but you won't have soggy jellybread.
February 27th, 2019 at 2:02 PM ^
Grilled pb&j >>> cold.
February 27th, 2019 at 3:20 PM ^
You ever had a PB&J pizza? It's pretty outstanding. I have also had a PB&J burger once. It was phenomenal.
February 27th, 2019 at 2:15 PM ^
I can't do PB&J for lunch, I'll get hungry like two hours later. Also, it's much better fresh than stored.
That said, PB&J remains a good option on Saturdays or in the evenings if the family isn't sitting down. What J do you use? I need to make a run to Thunder Bay to acquire some more PC Blue Label twice the fruit, which has been the best stuff in the world for 25 years.

Homemade blackberry jam using berries from the bushes next to my driveway. The wild plants also provide some berries - if I care to go through the thorns to get at the berries.
