OT: worst movie theater experiences

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

i'm in the mood for a good laugh so i figure i'd start one of these threads again.

my worst theater experience was when i went to go see Spiderman 3 in a theater. well of course some dumb guy starts talking on his phone right when the lights go down and the thing starts.

after awhile a guy behind him gets tired of it and asks him to stop. the guy on the phone basically said "fuck off" and then the guy behind LEAPS into the row and takes the guy's phone from him. Then they start fighting, in the aisle, food and drinks are going everywhere and women are screaming.

It took the staff about 5 minutes to take control of the place. it was crazy. everyone got their money back.

share yours below.

I went to see a Harry Potter movie with a girl I was dating. On top of already not liking Harry Potter, the people in the audience were extremely loud and annoying during the movie. Constant talking over it and whatnot. I pull out my phone with the light dimmed almost all the way, send one text message and an usher comes up to me and says if I pull out my phone again I'm going to be asked to leave the theater. It ticked me off.

Your story was much more entertaining.

Off Bar Harbour. We were watching Superman and the fog rolled in. Couldn't see the screen. Then Lois Lane fell into a crevasse during the earthquake. Is she dead? What will happen? In he next scene suddenly Superman is flying two villains directly into the hands of justice. No Lois. The End.

Projectionist skipped a reel!

Couldn't see the screen anyway for the fog

To think we will be on our third Spiderman lead within a decade...

Asa Butterfield say hello!

At this point they might as well throw out Peter Parker and use Miles Morales instead on the big screen. It's getting ridiculous.

Went to see a movie with a friend in high school. Accidentally kicked the back of the guys seat in front of me. He turns around, and very quietly tells me that if it happens again he is going to stab me. The movie wasn't even that good.

My wife and I went to a show one time.  These 2 ladies came to the show late and sat next to us.  The perfume stench they brought with them was like the play perfume little girls get, it was horrendous.  It didn't take long for the rows arond them to clear out.  Of course I thought I was saying something internally but it was really out loud.  Something to the effect of "What the hell stinks?"

"Titanic" came out during my sophomore year at Michigan, so on the first night - not willingly - I was dragged to this movie by a few people I knew who wanted to give it "a fair shot" being that they were fans of Cameron's work. As we sat down a few moments before the previews began, a few girls - probably 12 or 13 - came in and sat in the row in front of us. One of them, in apparent seriousness, asked if this movie was set against a true story.

Naturally, we assumed that everyone knew that - yes indeed - the Titanic did in fact sink in April 1912, so we lean forward and tell them, "No, you see, in the real story they are rescued by Apache choppers just in time." The remainder of the exchange was something like this:

"Really? Cool."

*facepalm*

Then the movie actually began...

*also facepalm*

Opening night of Bad Boys II. We had three "holding areas" in which we corralled patrons while they waited for their theater to be cleaned. Each one was to be let into the theater in order of their arrival. I stood by the 1st holding area and waited for my cleaning team to finish cleaning the theater. A good 250 people were waiting, and holding area #2 decided to let themselves in prematurely. I had a hoard of angry patrons screaming in my face to let them through because they were (rightfully) first. I decided to just let them go, it was out of my control at this point. I opened the rope and stepped aside as a stampede of angry customers charged the auditorium. It nearly turned into a riot and police were called but no arrests made. And it was my first day on the job.

there used to be a theatre on south university about a block and a half west of where it crosses washtenaw avenue (yeah, i know, things have changed and i am old).   the lines for that movie were incredible, literally blocks long down south university and turning and heading down whatever that next cross street was.

anyway, one of our house mates, an unnamed football player, is working at a lumber yard about 40 minutes from AA.   that was just about enough time to finish 5 of the 6 beers that come in a six pack on his way home.  he had to drive past these lines to get to the house. and you have to envision a very large human in very small brown vega station wagon.

so every evening/afternoon we could hear our house mate drive by the theatre, and from a block and half away you could clearly make out his voice yelling, 'the alien dies and comes back to life!'

maybe halfway b/w charlie's and village corners (now gone also...)

and 1974, our buddy would get off work around 5, and get back to AA around 6, so that's the showing that had the 'spoiler' announcement.

Not my experience but... My brother went to see a movie (in a decent area) and during the movie two rival gangs started yelling at each other which turned into them shooting at each other. Thankfully my brother was in the back row and they ran out and hid with the employees behind the counters as the gangs continued to shoot at each other running out of the theater and then proceeded to shoot at the cops outside. Well after everything settled down my brother and friends asked for a refund but were denied because they saw more than half of the movie...
