OT- World's Smallest U of M logo
Needless to say I didn't expect to see this article when I was on popsci.com. Here's something to temporarily take your minds off the 2-deep. Round of applause for the university.

I may be wrong but I believe this was posted on here before. Either that or I have seen it before somewhere else.
Either way, pretty cool that we made something that small.

Nothing came up, so I figured I'd share.

Ah ok. Well then I definitely seen it somewhere else. But thanks for sharing it.

I don't know if it's been on here before, but Engadget picked it up at some point, so if you read that it could be what you're thinking of.

need to do better job of either searching for old postings, or tagging stuff.

Its 2 months old, cut him some slack, sheesh.

I was going to reply myself but I didn't want to sound like a bitch. The Spell Check, Typo and Site Search Gestapo is really starting to get on my nerves, am I the only one? I'm not going to spend half my day at work researching the site for the possibility of this being posted before. I searched "World's smallest michigan logo" and nothing came up, that was the end of it for me. Plus the article is less than a month old so I didn't think to make sure that I checked 2 months back.

If this technology can go on bending things:
- Video Apparel (clothing that shows video images)
- Cloaking devices (already have stuff like this but would be nth more effective)

Didn't know you moved to Qu'onos or Romulus. Us here in the Federation still don't get to use that tech...

Video apparel + the cast of Jersey Shore = the explosion of eyeballs worldwide.

These are some (larger, but still tiny) U of M logos. While the one linked in the original post is a display, these are not, but rather carbon nanotube structures.

Ugh for the use of "Big Blue"

to boycott popsci.com.

It's an IBM reference.

What's cool about the logo is not that it's so small, but it's part of a display that can actually be changed. As someone who works with microfluidic devices, it's pretty straightforward (within the field of microfluidics) to make designs that small, but they're permanently etched into a substrate. With that display, you could make the smallest video of Michigan football in the world.

I recall a number of years ago some UM researchers made the UM logo with a scanning tunnelling microscope that was only a handful of atoms across.
This is pretty damn cool though, since it's an actual display.
