OT - What's up with Kansas Football?

Submitted by snoopblue on

I can't figure Kansas out anymore. Lose to North Dakota, win vs. Georgia Tech, now getting dominated by Southern Miss? I still think Turner Gill is a good coach and just needs some time to do his thing (Sound familiar?)...but man they are bad! Like Minnesota could beat them bad! . I bet they miss Mark the Michelin Man Mangino down in Lawrence, but I'm sure they have a lot more room and food now.

BTW Guess who led (as a coach) Kansas to a 10-0 season in 1899...Fielding Yost.
Yost was at Nebraska (formerly the BUGEATERS), Kansas, Stanford and San Jose State before Michigan.

Completely agree. I was never a big (no pun intended) fan of Mangino but he took a school that had won 3 bowl games in 100 years, to a BCS bowl. It reminds me a lot of Texas Tech and Leach. You can get rid of the coach but you're never going to get back to the same level ever again (though for the record I like Tubs and Gill). Sometimes change leads to regression.

Gutless coaching isn't going to help them any.  Tonight, trailing 31-16,  they faced a 4th and 19 inside their 10 with 1:45 to go.  They punted.  Now, that's admittedly a tough situation to be in, but how can you just give up?

Your last line - worrying about an even more pathetic loss - that can't enter your thought processes as a coach.  No one will remember the score, but they'll remember who won or lost.  Either way here your odds are slim, but they're still a little better if you try for the first down.
