And nursing a hangover while doing financial analysis.
OT: Weekly Friday "What are you doing?" Posbang Thread
...a better way to do it then?
Samesies re: hangover, but nursing mine while chugging coffee and doing legal analysis. Fun times.
I was trying to embed "Time for Da Perculator" but failed in my OP. Here it is:
You can't embed in board posts. You have to toss it in as the first comment.
You just go to the Plain Text Editor like any other post.
The problem with PTE is if you go back and edit your post, the board loads it in the rich text plugin and destroys all your spacing and formatting you did in PTE. I'd stick to PTE if the default action would be to load it in PTE on edit.
How I do it is:
- Type my whatever/text.
- Add a space
- Go to PTE
- Paste embed
- Usually add a space and type a letter or something
- Go back to RTE
- the letter and space is just a guide where the next "line" should be (you don't need it, it just makes it easier to pick up where to start and add something
- Finish post with all the spaces and such still in there from RTE.
I never post directly from PTE. You can, but it's like posting on my tablet...like you said, screwy spacing. But you can switch to it then switch back, and not have it all be one line.
To spell "Perculator" in your OP.
Which is only funny because of how obvious it is in the video.
This is how we do it! It's Friday morning and I feel alright...
you know the rest.
Finishing touches on another Diary
over to the Social Security office to get a new card today before work tonight. Other than that, just hanging out anticipating what a fun experience the SS office will be.
I imagine it will be like the DMV with an older clientele.
Probably only two retirement aged people here in the lobby. It looks a lot like the DMV locations in Illinois, but cleaner with better air conditioning. Also, there's a little machine spitting out numbers to get called instead of hearing "NEXT!" Screamed in your face when it's your turn.
Doing the whole bro support thing. One of college housemates is in the process of getting a divorce and living in our spare bedroom. I'm secretly happy because I hate his soon ot be ex-wife, but it would be bad manners to hang up a banner reading "Bon Voyage Bitch" and invite everyone over for a kegger.
for stuff like this. I had the banner made, hung it, had the party and passed out before anyone let me in on the secret that it was in bad taste. Ah, well, I learned a ton from it and don't regret it a bit. If he's down, just remind him that he now knows everything he doesn't want in his next girlfriend/wife. That's the best way to look at it.
Just make a banner celebrating his singleness. Forget the hated soon-to-be-ex-wife and just throw a party for your friend.
I need to get past the stage where she is engaging in prejury in an attempt to get sole custody of the child before I can really move past the hate.
In one hour
MGoBlog will see you on the other side.
MGoGoodLuck! You'll have to let everyone know how it went.
Good luck. Take care odf the new one when you get it.
We'll be thinking about you this afternoon! All the well-wishes I can muster are headed your way!
wow - best of luck
so it's probably too late to request a liveblog, or some sort of live twitter updates.
Either way, best of luck, and keep us posted.
I'm in the office now, selling my car in a couple hours, and the rest of my waking life currently evolves around wedding planning.
Oh laundering your money for tax evasion are you, you 1% scum?
My work is done for the day but I am stuck in the office until 2:30. Hopefully the thunderstorms hold off in the Northern VA area until I am home.
Efficiency boards for 40 ton presses, hungover and lookin a mess
I am looking at my clock tick away and wishing it said 5 pm.
That's a clown cartoon, bro
That's copyright infringement as of today.
Your day as been alarmingly more productive than mine so far. Love the drawing.
Column, column, column. Perhaps the most annoying aspect of organic chemistry...
We've been shortstaffed this week due to vacations here in my little corner of the "being in charge" world, so today is more or less devoted to the community effort of cleaning up check logs, invoicing, the work management tools, and other administrative crap so that the people who return next week do not come back to disasters. It has actually inspired a couple meetings next week to reapportion responsibilities in light of staff turnover (incoming and outgoing, never mind getting people to do training), so yeah, someone tell me again that taking a management position was a good idea.
I've spent a few down moments getting some selected summary data from last week's dump of MGoPoints for the 300 top MGoBloggers by point total.
Based on gross totals per last week's data (this week's will not be collected until later in the afternoon):
Average = 5,379 points
Median = 3,440 points
Mode = 3,550 points
Standard Dev. = 5,500 points
Variance = 30,251,572
Now, productive stuff - between 6/8 and 6/15:
Points generated = 2,701
*109 users in this group contributed zero points
*53 users contributed 80% of the points in this group
Average contribution (non-zero totals): 14 points
Median = 4 points
Mode = 1 point
Standard Dev. = 29 points
Maximum = 214 points
Performance quartiles (points generated):
|1st QUARTILE||214 to 13|
|2nd QUARTILE||12 to 4|
|3rd QUARTILE||3 to 2|
|4th QUARTILE||1 to 0|
Top 10 MGoBloggers by points generated (reporting 6/8 to 6/15):
This includes diaries, front page articles, threads started, and of course, individual comments.
I'll do summaries each week in the open thread until I do the big report.
Just wondering, for your "points generated" section, are you going for activity or raw points? I only ask because I believe the majority of Brian, jamiemac and Ace's points come from front page posts being worth more than board or diary posts. Not that either is better or worse, just different measures.
For the time being, it is raw points. On a notepad on my desk at home, this is broken out further for the people who produce the majority of the front page and diary content actually. I don't have it with me or otherwise I would post a little about that as well.
It seems like I should know and/or understand what you are talking about but, sadly, I have absolutely no idea.
"It seems like I should know and/or understand what you are talking about but, sadly, I have absolutely no idea" - profitgoblue
You have no idea how many times, as a frontline supervisor, I have to find ways to say this very thing every day. People will walk into my office and the very first thing I am forced to say is, "Well, this is news to me..."
I can't wait to see what you'll be able to do when you're not short staffed!
Hopefully you aren't the guy I spent an hour cursing out at DTE. They installed a new "smart meter" without any warning and in the process I didn't have power. So my wife comes home and finds its 95 inside the house and the dogs are down in the basement doing their best not to melt.
On the plus side they hooked me up with a bill credit for July to apologize, so the AC is getting set to 60 for the month.
The Smart Meter program just made its way into Washtenaw County (assuming that's where you are, of course), so while I am not the guy you talked to (the Advanced Metering Infrastructure project is run from downtown, and I am in Belleville), let me welcome you to the world where there are no estimated bills and your meter is read about once every 30 minutes. The upside of it is that we will no longer need to rely on calls to prioritize outages (we'll simply know how many by circuit in realtime) and we will be keeping track of voltage fluctuations to do reliability planning in realtime as well.
As for the meter changeout, it shouldn't have taken all that long unless there was some sort of issue in the meter enclosure itself or Field Service decide to test for every potential problem known to man. Typically, you'd be without power for, well, minutes on the outside. Even changing out entire overhead services (underground is a different monster as it requires digging), we can do it inside an hour with large industrial services (so about 15 minutes for a house). I'll talk to a friend down there to confirm the average outage time, if you're interested.
Then I got the knock on the door, and by the time I got up from bed to get it I heard the banging, then the power cut out for like you say, maybe a minute or two. Everything had to reboot, but it wasn't out for any length of time. Clocks and stuff had to be reset, but I don't think it was out long enough to even have to reset the thermometer setting (battery memory lasted long enough for that short a time).
Yeah. My neighbor got the card and said he only lost power for a minute or two. I guess my ancient house's old meter decided to be the pain. Or they opened it and found the wasps had set up shop or something.
About 4 years ago, we actually had a lost time incident in Underground Lines because someone opened a commercial transformer in Ann Arbor and it was home to a thriving culture of wasps. It wasn't the wasps that caused the injury, however - the guy rolled his ankle while running away. Sadly, this stuff is a hazard in the utility industry.
It's all cool in the end, they admitted they had a problem and the meter changeout took abnormally long (long enough from the temp to move from 74 to 95). I was just annoyed because in the summer I monitor DTE's blackout feed and it lets me know if I need to leave work early and take care of the dogs in a blackout. It took some yelling, but they eventually admitted maybe they should have contacted me at some point to let me know power was off in case I did have pets or anything.
I actually set up a little process on my computer that home that pings my phone every 15 minutes. If my phone doesn't get a ping for an hour, it alerts my wife and myself to get home and check on the dogs.
On the other hand, no blackouts yet. A whole week of 90 degree heats and no blackouts is a record, so whoever overhauled the northeast section of Ann Arbor's grid did a good job.
There's been a huge effort over the last few years to improve communication, even with the planned work, which is my neck of the woods. The people who design and issue work are very good about putting notes on sketches and orders regarding customer contact information, when to show up, even gate combinations when needed, but we have issues with field personnel not reading the notes. This might have been one of those moments, because even in the AMI group, they've been told to make similar sorts of contact, so sorry about that one.
My Father-in-law got in on some deal where they are paying him to be in a focus group about the smart meter thing. He has been crowing about it for weeks and it was something of a letdown for him to learn that LOTS of people are getting smart meters. He thought he was getting something that no one else had access too.
No Dad, you're just one of the few being paid to sit in a circle and talk about it.
My hometown. I'm sorry for you
At least I medaled.
I wouldn't have expected Jamiemac to be up there...I know he had the cool betting line post, but he must be getting some added content elsewhere this week too.
Though looking at the top of the list...I think I need to be paid.
Like I mentioned, I broke it out further with diary entries and front page content but I didn't bring the notes with me to work (although placing them on my desk would make me look super-busy). I kind of lament forgetting them - it would have made my summary even better. Last week as a good week for Jamiemac because of some content getting bumped to the front page. Next week, I plan to provide some insight into how it is broken out by content type as well.
Took the day off. Had a dentist appointment this morning. Now, working on my presentation as a lobbyist for a high school mock legislature in Lansing next. Avoiding the garage sale that my wife is having.
Oh wait, I just heard that two people got shot two blocks away, so much for the garage sale. Life in Ionia...
My motto for Ionia: "If you seek a pleasent prison, look about you."
Doing research all morning, meeting this afternoon, then afterwards...rage?
We shall see.
Around here, rage normally becomes before the meeting, and it is typically because of the research someone did into a pressing issue.
Waiting on test results before I can do much work-wise. Planning information for 2 upcoming OEM visits. Trying to figure out if I can get my phone to upgrade to ICS now that they've leaked the build for the Bionic... and counting down till quittin time.
I just got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and I've been really impressed. It's the first Android phone I've owned, so I can't really compare it to previous versions, but I like it a lot. Apparently, they released an update like the day after I bought my phone, and it fixed a lot of problems people were having. I've had no problems at all. My biggest complaint is that you only have 5 home screens and there's no way to view all of them at once. Although I read somewhere that that is something that might be addressed in the next update. But the face unlock feature is really cool, even if it is basically a parlor trick.
and it zooms out and shows all 5 screens. Also use folders, that way you have infinite screens and less swiping.
That's what I mean, the double-tap doesn't do anything. As far as I know, there's no way to view all your home screens. And I'm not sure what you mean by folders. I have the 5 home screens on which I can place apps/widgets. I can group apps together, but that doesn't necessarily provide inifinite screens. Plus, I try to group apps together that make sense, so not everything is necessarily going to be grouped with something else.
with motorola's interface, but when I hold the home screen I get 4 options for what to add. Widgets, shortcuts, folders, or wallpapers. If you hit folders you can create a new, empty folder and name it what I want and put apps in it. All my music apps I have in 1 folder. Really helped clean up the screen.
But that's on a bionic runing gingerbread...
Yeah, so you can't do that with ICS. I was reading a tech review last week, I don't remember where, that said they'll probably address that with the next update. It's a pretty minor quibble for me, especially since it's not like I was used to being able to do more before, but it would be nice.
In terms of the folders, I think they've just maybe changed that up a bit. It sounds pretty similar, at least. I can drag one app onto another, and it automatically puts them into a group. Then I can name that group whatever I want. So I have all my Google apps together, games together, etc. Maybe it's just a terminology thing.
On book three of Fifty Shades of Grey!!! I just can't put it down!!
Preparing for a student orientation here on campus, at USI, and just entered in the UM Hockey, Red Wings and Arsenal schedules into my google calendar. I am hurting badly for Fall.
Working this morning, then buying some DB's POS accord this afternoon. The untrusting SOB wants to make sure that my certified check is legit.
So you're the same a--hole that took 3 weeks to get me an offer and tried to low-ball me! Didn't realize that my negotiating skills were so legit, did you? Just get me my cash. Now.
Dislike that I have to use the /s to prevent the sarcasm police's trigger finger from going haywire.
Your closing skills sound impressive. Enjoy your coffee.
^^^Post or the day!
Will look like this year based on Mattison's previous stops and applying those trends to this year's team. Some pretty interesting numbers.
Doing it wrong. We only beat them by 4 by scoring late. Every year of every m vs nd game ever played is this true. Fact
I prefer 38-0, personally
my first Michigan game. It was glorious.
Just poured a large Oaked IPA homebrew and set into these wonderful videos after a brutal Friday at work. Thank you!
EDIT: Gotta go with 2003. The circumstances in 2007 were brutal, but man could Mallett throw. Guts was the same type of QB as far as being able to throw it on the dime. Too bad he had so many injuries.
Playing my Pink Floyd records (on "Meddle" now) while packing nonessential things for my move to Wyoming in a month. I'll probably do some reading and studying later in the day.
Breakfast with the CFO this morning. I'm kind of a big deal. Actually all of us interns are, cause that's how it was set up. Although really it was more of a "CFO talk" with breakfast served beforehand which you better finish before he gets there.
You should work for an old legacy company in a regulated industry like I do. There's still a line for breakfast with the executive staff walks into meetings and they generally just fumble with the Blackberry until everyone is seated with their food. Needless to say, the first several minutes of the speech are sometimes taken over by people struggling to open cream cheese packets or fruit cups.
How the lebron haters go on from here. Perhaps "lebron still titleless in 8 of 9 seasons" is a good narrative
He missed a couple shots in the 4th. He obviously is a mediocre at best player.
the issue was never a basketball one, but an attitude one. It'll be interesting to see how the Heat come back next year, both their roster and their attitude. It's a good time for the NBA, how many Heat pieces will they lose? Will they handle a full season (older/injured players and after playing this long + olympics)? Will any other up and comers knock them off? How good/bad will the Bulls be before/after Rose gets healthy? That was a rematch we didn't get this year. What will the Thunder do to re-tool, and can anyone out west beat them?
LeBron is the best basketball player on the planet, and he finally played like it. Good for him. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the Olympics and who the NBA's alpha dog really is. Does LeBron have the "killer instinct"? or did he just play some amazing hoops? Between Dwight Howard, Wade, Carmelo, LeBron, Westbrook, Durant, etc. these practices could be pretty epic... but I don't see these guys really getting in each others' faces like players used to. Except Kobe. He's a throwback asshole who doesn't mind being one.
I don't know if I'm a LeBron hater - I think he took the easy way out and had a premature party, but is still really good at basketball - but I think it's a good time to be a basketball fan.
He's got one. He's got a long way to go to get to 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 if he wants to be considered one of the all time greats or greatest of all time. Should be interesting to see how many he gets and where he ends up in history.
Under the heading of fun with sparty, check this out. This has been up for half an hour, been viewed 250 times, and a grand total of 1 spartan has figured out the joke is on them...

What varied lives we lead! Working, sort of, and thinking about lunch. After lunch I might fall asleep at my desk for a bit then I'll work on a presentation to the Department of Natural Resources and a managment plan for a landowner I work with.
The usual MGOBlog lunchtime review...
but I'm packed. Hopefully out of here (Toledo) by five, parked at the Boardman Quiet Area access outside Traverse City by 10, waiting by the stream with pale ale and cigar by 10:30, and in the midst of a raging Hexagania Limbata hatch by 11:00. About 1,000,000 things can go wrong between now and then, but hope springs eternal.
working on a telecon...learning what I will be doing next week.
Should be revising my dissertation, but instead I'm just listening to "It's Time for da Perculator."
For everyone's enjoyment.
I know a lot of people don't like Cuban, but it's always nice to see Bayless shut up.
Edit: Video not embeding, Link Here
Double edit: apparently it is.
Bayless is an absolute tool and Cuban used him as such in that clip!
From measuring parts I'm working on, I want to see best things you've ever found on a bathroom stall wall. Set....go
Doing the work/lunch thing now, but tonight we're set to go see Brave and probably Rock of Ages tonight at the drive-in. Probably going to visit my dad at a Relay for Life event afterwards.
over throwing the government of a small carribean island nation over the weekend then inviting all of MGOBLOG nation down for a big beach party next weekend. I'll keep you posted........
Ready for Germany v Greece. Go Deutschland!
Should be an exciting match with the added drama of the Euro debt crisis and austerity measures in the background for both countries.
I have a slew of financial and credit analyses to complete today - sometimes they suck, sometimes not so bad - just depends on how complete the files are.
This weekend I'm attending a bachelor party in Windsor for a high school friend who is making the worst decision of his life this July. So, we'll try to send him off properly.
My deepest condolences to your friend. Enjoy the wake in windsor
I made sure I spent several hours doing it. I also, moved my desk phone and when it wasn't working, I was made aware that I hade put the cable "in the wrong hole" (pun intended.) Waiting for 5pm.
At least it is that simple in your office. The software that our telecommunications group uses has each phone statically assigned to a cubicle, so you can't simply move it. If you do, it will go right to voicemail once you plug it in unless you specifically request that the calls are forwarded to that node or until the IT ticket to get the phone reassigned goes through. Yes, this is quite dumb.
Im working my ass off to make a stage gate. Good times. Had to take a few to check the blog. After I'm done, drinks. I visited the Appalacian Brewing Company (ABC) this week. I swear the mantra of the brewery must be, "we don't want to offend anyone's palate" and so the beer was completely lacking distinction. Do Not Attempt.
And I'm going over paint codes and colors. I can't decide what to paint my damn 71 Chevy c10. Started out thinking flat black and then well I've been all over the place. Wife likes the root beer color with a white top. I was thinking of a brown pearl with a platinum silver top. Just can't get over the idea of paying someone to paint my truck brown.
I've always been partial to primer gray with bondo accents.
That's the way it looks now. It's at the shop waiting on me to figure out a color but I'm horrible at making descions when there are so many damn options.
No brown and silver. Thats reserved for cheech and chong. Roll with the white top. Sounds slick.
And telling my kids for the 8th business day in a row, that it is not my summer vacation...keep getting asked "where you going Mom?" uhh....WORK! Quit reminding me!
Working. Thinking about beer and hoping we don't get a hurricane from that omninous blob in the Gulf of Mexico. I deep fried bacon last night too, which is about the most awesome thing I've done in my life so far. Happy Friday!
Volunteering to help the Michigan Farm Bureau put on an event then going to my buddy's wedding!!
Leaving work early to buy a used truck. Anyone have any heads up on mechanical issues for a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Z71 ext cab with 135,000 miles? I know, it's not a Ford/Dodge/Toyota/Nissan (haters gonna hate). I have a Ford now but it's a standard cab. I tried ratchet strapping the car seat in the bed but someone showed up at my house with an Alabama hat for me to wear ; ) Trying to dwindle my fleet by selling car and truck for ext cab truck. Still gets 20 mpg highway with a 5.3 V8. If any of you MGoGearheads don't have one, I got an OBD code reader and Torque for my Android phone. It's amazing the real time info you can get for $30.
I'm here for the posbang...
I have yet to bill a damn hour yet today, gotta slog through to get home, my dad's up visiting from Ohio. Gonna try to get some landscaping done, cross things off the wife's do-to list. I thought about writing a diary on here today after I saw CRex's epic stories, I have a few funny ones I think would entertain some people on here, even though they come from a Buckeye fan.
In case you haven't noticed, the exploits of Buckeye fans - like the one that inspired my sig - are always prime entertainment :P
Just finished reserving a stump grinder rental for tommorrow. Oh what joy. I am a little excited to use it though.
Be sure to let me know how that works out for you because I have just been doing rock salt and charcoal burning, with a steady combo of digging and chopping with an axe.
Sure will. I would have done that method in the past but with the toddler running my life I just don't have the time or energy anymore. I do enjoy swinging an axe, it's much fun.
Are we actually griding stumps or will there be a "Fargo" reenactment involved? Just curious.
Nothing to see here, move along people.
Getting ready for a garage sale and not looking forward to dragging all of the junk out of the house just to drag most of it back in the house afterwards. Yay.
Enjoying (i.e. reading, drinking, smoking weed, playing with my dog) my first full week of not teaching during summer vacation!
Out early as usual. In laws are in town gonna catch my tigers tomorrow. First time at pnc since i moved here this winter. Then lots of drinking with father in law. Finding a girl whos dad is a wolverine season ticket holder... Blind luck!
That sounds like a pretty solid vacation, although I would substitute more drinking for weed.
Im interviewing to be a pilot at an airline.
The guy buying my car is a pilot for Jet Blue. From the sounds of it, its a pretty neat profession.
Are you a former Air Force guy?
Nope I taught a bunch of them
Greetings from NOLA! Here for work. Hope y'all are well! PS--one hurricane contains four shots of rum. I found this out after my third one Wednesday afternoon. Yes, afternoon. Also, my colleague texted me that her daughter was at a scholarship dinner and upon being asked what finally convinced her to pick Michigan replied that her mom's colleague did. (Me!) That text made me cry. I'm going to her open house tomorrow! Have a good weekend you guys!
At Mr. B's Bistro is wonderful!
Working out a hydraulic simulation software and then trying to continue getting back into running shape after work.
Running in the summer is rough. Good luck, stay hydrated.
either find a path with water fountains or bring some. I did both monday, 87 degrees is not a good way to run 6.5 miles. Luckily tomorrow morning's 8 miles should be cooler.
Yeah, this heat is rough. I'm finding the best time to run is before 6am which is lot easier this time of the year when the birds start singing at 5am.
Good call. Plus, lot less traffic, both people and automotive at that hour. Even muggers aren't up that early.
Gonna meet my mom for dinner after work. Hosting a bbq tomorrow afternoon. Softball doubleheader on Sunday morning which should lead into a proper Sunday Funday at the bar that sponsors our team.
I will be selling chicken and biscuits to the elderly this evening. It's okay to be jealous.
Wife had the day off, so I scooted early and we just got to the cottage. Very nice weather here in northern Mich. Quick PSA - anyone heading north on 75; there are a lot of state troopers out (not entirely sure why this weekend)
Having a few friends over for some BBQ chicken, beer, maybe a cigar or two later on. Gorgeous day for it here in Royal Oak!
Trying to figure out where to take my husband tonight for dinner. Yesterday he "defended"/presented his thesis and is essentially done with his degree, minus some annoying paperwork issues.
This weekend may include a stop in at the MGoGetHired group on linkedin to find him a job.
Hanging' with my kid who's home sick with a fever, so we've been chilling with Shawn the Sheep on Netflix.
You guys, should I get a second bachelors degree in nursing?
It'll give us endless stories for the board.
To make it to the party in time. Hard to define a new product when you spend your whole day chasing action item crap.
Kids at a concert, wife working volunteer shift at the hospital, so just ordered pizza, beer fridge is full of cold ones, and will retreat to the man cave to listen to loud rawk music while I can. Put some Black Keys on, too. I built a nice system and just don't get to use as much as I would like to.
