OT: Was your HS good at football?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Where did you go to HS and were they any good at football?

I went to Utica HS in Macomb County. They were not good have never won a playoff game. Only 4 playoff appearances and no state titles despite being one of the oldest teams in the state.

They do play Romeo HS for a Little Brown Jug that was started in 1948.

Curious to see what football pedigree some on the board came from and if it was big at their school.

1966 9-0....1967 8-1 (lost to Ypsi.St,John's 7-0 on TD pass thrown by Bob Sutton current DC for K.C.)...1968 6-1-1.  ans yes we did have face masks back then.

So, yes.  10 state championships, playoffs pretty much every year.  I didn't play, but it was a big deal.  Lots of people went to games, most people knew how the team was doing, etc.

I'm assuming the Neg is from another CC person. Time has given me perspective. The rivalry got really heated around my Sr. year. A fight happened at a dual meet and a door got smashed, IIRC.

That said, they are another Catholic school, and Fracassa was a class guy. I'll always prefer my Shamrocks though. :-)

I played at the now-defunct Southgate Aquinas.  We had some good years, but we always lost to Brother Rice, and Devine Child.   You guys had some strong recruiting going...

My school's team kind of stunk in the grand scheme of things, but I did grow up right down the road from Plant High School in Tampa. They were a total powerhouse when I was in high school. Think they won like 3-4 straight state titles.

They're the school that produced Robert Marve, Aaron Murray, and a few others.

We were pretty awful plus we played in the small(er) public high school league on Long Island.  So that's pretty bad.

In the spring of my junior year I transferred from a catholic school that was a real powerhouse.  I didn't play there so I contemplated coming out for the team my senior year ( I had played one year of organized ball in 8th grade).  I had filled out and was athletic and probably could've contributed at linebacker.  Plus all my buddies played and even though the team sucked, they loved it and played hard every down.

I was decent in summer camp but quit a week or two into the season because I had a beef with the coach. Regretted it every day since!

14-0, State Champions in my senior year. Only lost one game, the previous years State Championship in the four years I played.

They sent me to a looney bin upstate b/c they thought I had donkey brains. There was a frog girl there.

But in reality my HS was very good at football. We usually won our conference, of which we were the smallest school.

We are/were pretty good at quite a few sports, including football (just won State championship again this past year), but in an effort to make things more interesting, my high school has the record to second longest lasting hockey game in national history and the longest in Michigan high school hockey history with 8 overtimes.  http://www.maxpreps.com/news/yhLTkhfDN0qZjc_CMiF3Iw/michigan--8-ots-not…

We also had one of the longest state championship games in football and lost in a heartbreaker in the 5th overtime at ford field.  http://blog.mlive.com/grpress/2007/11/egr_goes_for_backtoback_state.html

I went to Solomon Schecter High School of Westchester. We only had the other football although we were pretty good. I was the manager and had a good time. We were next to Woodlands High School which I'm not sure how good they were/are. Some of my good friends went to Don Boscoe (sp).

We were the best team in Toledo going into my freshman year. Were coming off a state final four appearance the year before and a state championship the year before that. Then the downfall started. My class was very small and led to a senior season where we went 3-7. Still kills me looking back at it

Led by (former U of M reciever) Carl Tabb, my high school was actually ranked #1 in divison 1 for Michigan for a few weeks my sophomore year (2001) until we lost to Brighton (or maybe it was Chelsea) towards the end of the season, and then we lost in the 1st round of the playoffs by 1pt.  We were overhyped the next year, and went 6-4 (one loss was a thrashing at the hands of Lemar Woodley's Saginaw powerhouse team), and lost in the first round of the playoffs.  And then my senior year, despite getting a new coach who was the former DC of Eastern, we tanked and comfortably missed the playoffs all together.

My school is historically quite bad at football, but in 2 isolated occurences over the past 20 years, we were able to get some temporary respect  (besides '01, we were undefeated until we lost the state championship game in '97).  Glad to say I was at least a part of one of those rare occurrences.  Go River Rats!

Nope. Carrollton Cavaliers. When I was there we were a C school in a B league and had never been to playoffs. Though, my junior year we almost made it and were the only team to beat Michigan Lutheran Seminary that year. Loved playing football, despite us not being good at it.

Went to canton HS they made state championship against Rockford in 2006 but lost. Other 3 years lost in the semi finals and quarter finals. Most of their games were blowouts so it was fun to watch

St. Johns has been mostly good for the last 15+ years, playing in the finals in 2005 with Andy Schmitt (EMU's QB starter for 4 years and NCAA record holder) at the helm.  Long live the Wing T!

Grand Blanc here. Delivered a few Michigan players, J. Hayes, Steve Smith, as well as Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram. The furthest they've gotten is the Regional finals where they lost to Rockford in 2005 (?) and 2011.

Well, two out of three. Lane Tech in Chicago was good in football, as is Glenbard North where my kids go. My HS in the Detroit Metro area wasn't very good, and the high school has since been closed.

Strongsville High School, about 20 miles south of Cleveland. We were always good, not great. Good enough to get to the D-1 playoffs, only to get dispatched by schools like St. Ignatius, Warren Harding, Solon, etc.

We didn't have football until my senior year so all the juniors could play and it would still technically be a JV team.

THANKS MOM AND DAD FOR SENDING ME TO A PRIVATE SCHOOL FOR 13 YEARS (edit: kindergarten included, I didn't flunk)

undefeated the 4 years I was in HS.  Penn Hills High School, outside of Pittsburgh.  75-78.  It was the WPIAL AAA before there was a AAAA divsion.  We tied in the title game my senior year against the Butler Tornadoes.

Of note...

1. We beat Dan Marino (Central Catholic) in the playoffs my senior year.  I think the score was 7-0. He towered over his offensive line.

2. We were the Penn Hills Indians.  Our uniforms looked like Florida State's down to the same looking spears on the helmets that FSU had at the same time.

3. Our coach was Andy Urbanic.  He went on to be the AD (football ops) at Florida State after a stop at Pitt I believe.

4. I was in the marching band and we were horrid.  I had to up my game in the MMB.

Troy Athens '96. Always a .500 team except for an occasional blip every 3 to 4 years where we'd win 7 and come within a game of winning the league, and then lose to Troy High. My senior year, we thought we had a chance with a strong senior class and a junior QB who was groomed to be a golden boy since he was in 7th grade, and we had a run, but didn't go very far (I think we lost in the 1st rd of the state playoffs by a lot).

On the other hand we were a "futbol" powerhouse, and that was what most of us who didn't play football did, tailgate for soccer. (I was a varsity baseball only guy)

We were very good, but we were class "c" (or maybe cc?). We went to the state playoffs both years that I was on the varsity team. Made it to the championship my junior year (we lost) and lost our second round playoff game my sr year. I was just okay, mostly played corner and safety.

Went to Godwin, helmets just like UofM, same colors and everything.  We were above average when I was there but after I left won 1 game through 3 years.  Basketball was a different story, 2015 class B state champs.  Were state ranked when I was there as well but never made a deep run.

My high school coach has won 5 state titles and 300+ games and his only in his 50s. I was apart of one of those championships. My school also produced Notre Dame offensive linemen Trevor Robinson, who was on the 2008-11 teams. Spencer Long of the Redskins is an alum as well.

I didn't play high school football. I went to New Trier (Winnetka, IL) where we were not good at the "big 3" of Football, Basketball, or Baseball but we dominated most other sports.
