OT: Vegas has Saturday's point spread at 40.5 in favor of Michigan. What's the safer bet: under or higher?
September 1st, 2016 at 1:10 PM ^
Under....Harbaugh calls off the dogs.
38-10.
September 1st, 2016 at 1:43 PM ^
I did the same. Harbaugh doesn't want to show too many cards by pounding them into dust. Just ground and pound some of the youngsters and we'll see you next week.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:37 PM ^
Agreed. These first three will feature a lot of the depth chart.
September 1st, 2016 at 1:44 PM ^
I don't think Hawaii will score 10 points. The defense and depth at so many positions will prevent that. IMO, the only way they score a TD is a defensively or special teams.
September 1st, 2016 at 2:40 PM ^
They are much better offensively than on D. I think they sneak 3 in the first half (maybe after a TO) and then get a fluke score against the backups late.
September 1st, 2016 at 1:11 PM ^
Neither...I'll take the "over"

higher than you thought when you posted this one.

I took Hawaii +40. If we win by more than 40, I won't be mad about losing some cash.

No bet in a game A&M plays is safe.

For tonight, I like Tennessee at -22.
September 1st, 2016 at 1:12 PM ^
Under. We go up 35-0 at halftime and Harbaugh puts in the walk ons.

Step into a Vegas casino, walk up to the sports bet window, lay down $100 and say "$100 on Michigan, I'll take the higher". Be prepared for the expression of a lifetime.

"What number is that?"

"Sir, I think you're higher."

Flip a coin and you have your answer, just like every other sports bet.

We have some injuries and some guys who put themselves above the team. It'll be a blowout but it won't be 40 points.

Some rumors guys will be suspended for the first game, or at least part of it. Some hints were dropped that it was Peppers and possibly ~3 other guys. Someone said they snuck out after curfew, maybe got into bar fight.
None of it is confirmed, but stuff like this usually has some truth to it.
September 1st, 2016 at 1:28 PM ^
The snuck out after curfew and bar fight suggestions were pure guesswork. Nobody said that is what happened.
September 1st, 2016 at 1:30 PM ^
Peppers won't be 21 until next month.
The truth is in there somewhere.

You're right, went and re-read it and it was just an example to illustrate the level of misconduct we're talking about.
My bad, this is why you take internet rumors with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Hawaii playing an extra game helps them keep it closer than it should be. The most points they scored in any game last year was 49 (Rutgers), that combined with a new qb has me believe they score in the high 30's. I'm going with 38-3 and the under.
September 1st, 2016 at 3:17 PM ^
September 1st, 2016 at 4:15 PM ^
That was the 4th game last year, week 1 is very different. Additionally, they only put up 35 on Oregon State who only ended up with 2 wins the whole season in the second game.
September 1st, 2016 at 1:19 PM ^
Breaking in a new QB, will probably "go vanilla" on offense. Take advantage of the cupcakes early to fine-tune the running game and overall timing.

Spreads like this are generally just so uncertain, since it depends so much on how fast Michigan would get out to a big lead.
There are plenty of other games to take action on this weekend. I'd suggest you do that.
September 1st, 2016 at 1:26 PM ^
While we won many games handily last year we only scored 41 points twice and the coaching staff seemed to slow things down in the 2nd half when we had 4 TD leads.
September 1st, 2016 at 1:27 PM ^
We won't cover. And obviously not because the game won't be completely one-sided all the way through, which it will.
But yeah, that's a LOT of points. And we're not gonna run it up on them, nor will we keep the starters in the entire time. Hawaii will get garbage points in the 4th quarter.
September 1st, 2016 at 1:28 PM ^
WTF is "over"? Over/under is on total points - no such thing as an "over" bet when you're betting point spreads.
That being said I'll take Michigan and lay the points. 56-7 good guys.
September 1st, 2016 at 1:29 PM ^
Jim decided we are just not going to let opponents score points this year.... so.... probably the Hawaii Under 14.5...

Yet i still think UM bludgeons them with the run game and stout defense. I'd say your OL pounds them all day long. they'll keep it respectable for the 1st half, say 24-0 @ the half. then your backups will play hard in the 2nd half and put up another 21. hawaii scores twice on broken plays. 45-14
