Ian Darke doing tonight's game on ESPN, 10 PM EST.
Win here is important to get a head up in the group Let's go USA
Puto when the opponent's keeper kicks the GK; now throwing all kinds of shit at the Costa Rican trying to take a corner kick.
PS - Dos Santos looks like a teenage girl.
Yeah, they were throwing things No place for that
Geoff Cameron's played full back for Stoke basically all season, and Brad Evans has played in midfield for the Sounders all season, so let's swap them? Eddie and Fabian Johnson out wide. Just don't get it. Where is Zusi? What the hell does Brek Shea have to do to get a game?!
Graham Zusi is suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards and Jermaine Jones is out with a concussion.
That silly tackle not only cost us a goal but cost him a game.
Cameron started some game as holding MF for Stoke.
And people wonder why Pulis was sacked. Cameron's not overly comfrotable on the ball so playing him in midfield seems rather pointless to me.
Brek Shea is not that good. There are much better players that fit the kind of offense that JK wants to play.
He needs to work on his technique and tactical play if he wants to play winger. If he plays, I want him to come in off the bench.
But at least he's actually a winger, instead of a striker or a fullback. Klinsmann wants to play a possession game so one would question why 2 full backs are playing in midfield. Brek would at least offer natural width because the US have a tendency to get too narrow.
It make sense if he thinks those two fullbacks are better on the ball and have better vision. I think Shea will get his chance once he shows better tactical play. He has the athleticism to run at defenders, he just need to improve on decision making. The same applies to someone like Josh Gatt.
Cameron made a hell of a pass on the 2nd goal. I guess he should have been playing fullback eh?
Lets go yanks! Love me some usmnt
Love seeing this Mexican team limp through the wcq's. I haven't seem El Tri have this much team chemistry In my lifetime
Seven minutes? Talk about the advantage of playing at home. Is that much time really needed?
They were delayed several minutes on that one corner alone due to the crowd throwing stuff at the Costa Rica player.
They were in the Confeds Cup Final in '09 and held a 2-0 lead over Brasil. A second half capitulation kept them from glory. And that was with BB.
You said 'Cup'. You didn't specify which. For a footballing nation of our stature, a Confeds Cup victory is an absolute triumph. Baby steps.
There is some young talent but it'll take a decade or so to fully develop. I don't think the US will be competitive while they field guys from the MLS.
When teams like Argentina, Brasil, Spain, Germany, etc are always churning out top players, it's difficult for a country like us to keep up. We don't pump all our resources into football academies and coaches and things like those other countries.
I think we compete fine, personally. Just look at the teams who've put us out of competitions recently. Germany in '02, group of death in '06 and Ghana (who in my eyes were semifinalists) in '10. Hell, we made the last 8 in '02 and gave Germany all they wanted in that game.
I like Robbie Keane.
Too bad Poland couldn't keep Klose and turned away Podolski
and I left my vuvuzela in my other pants.
right on the left side of Panama's goal, would the US player have been better off putting that on the ground despite the defender not far behind, or should that always get taken in the air despite it seeming like a lower percentage shot? Also curious why the home team is listed first.
I'm sure both of those questions are dumb, sorry.
Home team is always listed first in international/club soccer. Someone might know more details than this, but that's how it is.
For the first time that I can remember seems like the US national team has home field advantage. Crowd on their feet, full house, loud crowd, good chants. Well done Seattle. Even my Brasilian friends are impressed.
That is all.
Go Blue! ...and red and white.
Was there last night as well. The atmosphere was electric!!!
this fucking game added 40 mins to my commute home today.
Or it could have been some baseball game going on at the same time.
I was in Seattle last year but never had the chance to visit either CenturyLink or SafeCo. It would have been nice to be in that crowd right now. Damn it.
One of these days, I'm going to make it up to Seattle to watch a Sounders game. I want to see them play the Galaxy, but their games vs. Portland are legendary.
They're both awesome venues. And not just for sports. I saw U2 at the Clink a couple years back. Oh my god.
And the beer is so good. Sooooooo good. And you can legally go to games while stoned.
Theres nobody there. MAYBE 15k showed up. There's over three times as many people at the Clink. Seriously, I've got the game on now.
These dummy officials I swear
I like how soccer refs, when they don't want to award a penalty kick but they know something happened, they just say "Uhhhh free kick for the other team!"
I believe it's pronounced " 'murica"
seems like sometimes we have these matches in the US and the stadiums are like half full and quiet
I hate to admit this because I don't like the Sounders, but Seattle has the best soccer fans. Portland gives them a run for their money sometimes.
Fans of those two cities represent the biggest rivalry in the MLS. The Cascadia Cup is a great tradition that really stokes the rivalry between these cities.
The crowd last night was a little disappointing to me since I was expecting 50k+ to show (which they did for the Sounders on Sat). But for the 40k that did show, they were more rabid than the regular Sounders game. When we were chanting United States in unison, I got chills. Easily the best soccer crowd in the states.
Jozy has gotten so much better after playing in the Dutch league. Before joining AZ Akmarr he was never this technically polished.
Bradley is also a product of the Dutch system.
I want more American players to mature in the Dutch academies.
Any top league European youth system would be nice. But if we are going to pick why not De Toekomst or FC Porto?
Agreed, but right now I would put Germany, Dutch and Spain over Italy, France and England.
The Allstate ad syncs up well with the goal.
The experience of watching this team is not unlike watching an RR team: you just know the D is going barinfart sooner or later, but you just hope the offense will come through.
EDDIE ON HIS HOME TURF OH MY
WOW Cameron with an amazing pass, and what a first touch by Johnson!!
That was a damn fine touch.
He took like two steps after contact before deciding that he had been horrifically injured
We are going to Brazil™
We are going, We are going, we are going to Brazil! Sam's Army in fine form in Seattle tonight.
Does anyone know how many games are left in the hex?
4 after this I believe
Five I believe and three of them are home.
Wiki being wiki:
USA has 10 pts. We are atop this group now.
Hard to stop watching this.
Clint mis-hit almost goes in... Almost an incredible strike of luck.
If that went in, I would have said, "all planned"
I <3 Ian Darke. Especially for trolling Twellman.
This team is so much fun to watch right now. Jozy not only attacking but his touch on balls allowing guys to run onto them is really imrpessive. Beasley rings one off the post.
These fans are fantastic just really proud of the team. Large steps towards the ultimate goal. Really awesome.
Yay. Joe Benny sighting.
Beasley silly foul picks up a yellow card late, which rules him OUT vs Honduras next week. This is a little worrisome due to the lack of depth on the back line.
Who would have thought a year or two ago that this sentence would ever be uttered in the history of mankind?
Better now than against Mexico.
Yeah that hurts. It probably means that Fabian Johnson moves back to LB.
Hopefully that means Joe Benny gets the start, but I doubt that happens.
FIFA's yellow card system in qualifying is a bit ridiculous and in need of an overhaul.
It's tiresome to see players suspended for a game for getting two yellow cards. I get it if the cards are in the same game, or consecutive games, but not if it's extended throughout qualifying. The frequency of yellow cards is such that it's inevitable that a player will be suspended.
It should only be for two in one game. Getting one in consecutive games should not be grounds for a suspension, given how completely arbitrary yellow card issuing is.
Losing Beasley is not good for next week but overall a great day for the team. Very cool.
The team played really well as a whole, standouts: Jozy, Cameron, and overall the defense... A Team USA with a healthy and fit Donovan and Holden would be very very deep in talent compared to cycles past.
Makes you wonder if Jurgen has had a plan all along.
When is Donovan returning?
Is in Klinnsmans dog house for taking a sabbatical. My guess is he plays in the gold Cup for our B Team and is back on the team for the September games at Costa Rica and vs Mexico in Columbus.
That was fun to watch. It's not too often the case that the team is in control for most of the game like that. I wouldn't quite call it dominant yet, but there wasn't much doubt who the better team was today.
I can't wait for the Mexico match in Columbus... I'll be there! I only hope Columbus can match Seattle's crowd!
Just curious, but where did you get your tickets from, and about what did you pay?
The US played a solid game. I'm impressed with Jozy these past 3 games, while Cameron played well.
I gotta give a shout out to the Outlaws, who made it a tough environment for Panama. I'd like to see more games played in the Northwest, who in my opinion, have the best fans in soccer. I'll watch any game played in Seattle and Portland and I loved the chats the Outlaws organized.
I liked the hand clapping thing over their heads when the whole stadium did it. Very cool. I wish the US had more songs - all we really have is the USA chant and while nice it pales to some of the things a lot of other countries do. That said I agree 100% with the Seattle crowd (and Portland too) - more games up there.
... the pitch was an embarassment. I know why and understand the situation, but it is a shame that, in the 21st century, we can't have a world class pitch at every venue in this country.
