OT: Talking Cars Tuesday - Your favorite car commercial

Submitted by JeepinBen on January 28th, 2020 at 9:37 AM

Inspired by Porsche's excellent new SuperBowl ad (full version here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92sXWVxRr0g ), what's your all time favorite car commercial? I'm sure folks enjoy their rich Corinthian leather (Corinth is famous for their leather!), but did an ad ever work for you? Make you laugh? Make you want that car?

A) I just posted a TTT. I dont' want to compete with the originator so I apologize.

B) It may sound dumb but the commercials I really liked were the original Neon commercials. 'Hi'. I thought it was a clever use of the cars face and relative meakness.

I"m sure 99% of the board is too young to even know this commercial existed but when it came out it caused quite a public reaction.

Pontiac introduces it's new, revolutionary  Endura bumper on the 68 GTO to the public:

i'll just mention a couple of old iconic car commercials.  the one was the buick jingle about 'wouldn't you really rather have a buick, a buick, a buick'

the other was/were the series of cordoba commercials with ricardo montalban, extolling the virtues of 'rich corinthian leather', which was mostly vinyl.  he also said the name cordoba with an spanish accent, but in an american way (emphasis in original language on the first syllable, not the second).

i was so much older then.  i'm younger than that now.

This one gets high marks for funny story line, technology, and production... and per the OP I love Audis... fantastic cars.  But the maintenance on one is just out of control and I have other things to spend money on these days.

There have been some great ones, obviously. I have a soft spot for the Paul Harvey "farmer" commercial.

But the one that I enjoyed most when it came out (probably wouldn't like it today, but it was cool then) was the Nissan "toy" commercial. Here.

A BMW commercial: the driver pulls up to his house and a message pops up on this infomat from his wife stating, my mom just stopped by. Immediately, the husband backs up and leaves.

laughed so hard because I have done that myself

Not sure why Super Bowl ads leak so far ahead (also, completely forgot it's this weekend...), or why people seek them out ahead of time.

Half the fun of that game is waiting for a good commercial to pop up amongst the sea of over-hyped, lame commercials!

I don't think a commercial has ever made me want to buy a car. The Chrysler made in Detroit commercials back in 2008ish got me in the feels. One of the mustang commercials in the early 2000s was cool. The only media that ever made me want a car was some need for speed video game I played when I was younger. Blue Shelby Cobra with the white stripes is still somewhat of a dream car of mine because of it.

Probably the Nissan Cats in the Cradle Super Bowl commercial/tribute to dads from a few years back.

I will say though, I hate commercials in general, and feel like most of them are incredibly stupid, and I don’t think there are commercials I hate more than the car commercials advertising the various sales dealerships have. “Hurry in before it’s over,” as if anyone in the history of humanity has ever rushed into a dealership worried they were going to miss the big sale. So annoying.
