OT: Sports talk radio in Columbus today

Submitted by Michiganfaninb… on September 13th, 2021 at 7:55 PM

Maybe some here are not interested in this, but I found it hilarious. Living outside of Columbus and working in Columbus I am forced to listen to all Buckeye talk and today for them was……..not good.
This morning they were so agitated that Bobby Carpenter went off on some weird, borderline insane (quite aggressive towards his co-host) rampage about how OSU ticketing office and the whole institution has let him/them down. They had a ticketing snafu before the game that didn’t allow some fans in on time, and he ridiculously trying to make a point how everybody else screws up yet only the players and coaches take heat.
Tonight on the Buckeye Show they did a Big10 rundown with short descriptions and stories of each game, yet the merely said “Michigan also won” and moved on without anything else.

TLDR: Their feelings are hurt and they are showing it, can’t imagine them if they had to endure the journey we have been on.

Actually, Cooper didn’t win with extreme regularity until later in his coaching career.  Not many people remember that once he got to OSU, he started out 0-5 against Illinois, then lost to them a couple more times in the 90s, including an ass kicking at the shoe in 1999.

His bowl record was rather meh as well.  His struggles weren’t just against Michigan.  We were just the main one pointed out.

Michigan won 8 big ten titles during Cooper’s 13 years in Columbus.

"Winning ten games regularly"?

*He took over a team that went 11-1, 9-3, 9-3, 9-3, 9-3, 9-3, 9-3, 10-3, and 6-4-1 in the previous 9 years.*

Cooper's record:

1988: 4-6-1

1989: 8-4

1990: 7-4-1

1991: 8-4

1992: 8-3-1

1993: 10-1-1

1994: 9-4

1995: 11-2

1996: 11-1

1997: 10-3

1998: 11-1

1999: 6-6

2000: 8-4

13 seasons and 5 of those were 10+ win seasons.

Am I missing something?

That's probably why they're so batshit insane now - losing to Michigan truly fucks them in the head. Go on twitter or the message boards, the most unhinged OSU posters are all in their 40s and 50s - the ones who spent their teenage years and young adulthood watching some of OSU's most talented teams of all time lose to 8-3 type Michigan teams led by dudes like Howard, Woodson, Grbac etc who were all from Ohio.

Their suffering under Cooper doesn’t even remotely compare to Michigan’s suffering the last 15-20 years. His teams were still regular title contenders that just shit their pants against Michigan. But they’d still win a bunch of games.

OSU has no goddamn clue about what suffering is.

I mean yea from watching what Minnesota and Oregon were able to do rushing, there's a good chance Michigan will find some success on the ground especially if Coombs is still in charge of that D come game day. That doesn't mean they won't carve up Michigan's secondary and score fast while Michigan tries to grind it out.

No one had fun at the OSU game that was wearing scarlet and gray.

Take it with a grain of salt. Half of the time Bobby goes off some weird ass tangents and Rothman pulls him back. It’s just so much greater when they lose during the season because they, and everyone else down here think it’s the end of the world so these radio heads blame a lot on some random crap. This is the first time they have met with real adversity and cannot fathom that it’s happening to them. I love it.

I feel bad that you live outside of Columbus. My son goes to school nearby and every time I visit him, it's impossible to escape BuckeyeFever. It's everywhere.
