OT - Solar Eclipse plans

Submitted by MGoGrendel on
Any plans for viewing the Great American Solar Eclipse tomorrow? Oregon wakes up to a black sun as they are the first to see it. Here in GA we are seeing about 99.5% eclipse. So, we headed north to TN to be in the "path of totality". Should be interesting as it get very dark and the temperature drops quite a bit. My buddy went out to KS and it looks like they will be under a cloudy sky. What are your plans?

It's supposed to be about 80% here in the Detroit area and we're supposed to have some clouds but still a decent shot at seeing most if not all of what we'll be able to see here. I'll be at work, but all of us have already agreed to be part of that $700 million in lost productivity anyway, so it's good.

At all those stuck in the traffic grid lock as their plans are reduced to viewing the eclipse from the roadside after traveling hours to be in the path of totality! What I find more interesting than the eclipse is the total blackout and inevitable banishment to Boliva of our fellow blogger somewittyname.

Asked my wife to play hooky with me and have sex at the height of totality.  Tomorrow I'll ask the boss if we can have an extra 15 minute break in the afternoon.

I work in an earth-sciency office so of course everyone is nerding out about it even though we are only in the 65-75% range. We've actually been having meetings about it for a couple months. We are going to have some special instruments and plenty of eclipse glasses for a viewing party on the roof tomorrow afternoon. I'm actually pretty excited.

I have mandatory workplace Sexual Harrassment/Assault Response and Prevention training tomorrow from 1:00-4:00 PM.  My 75% coverage area will experience the phenomenon from 1:17 to 3:58 PM...

The family is headed up to Tallulah gorge in Georgia in the morning to get in the path of totality. Meeting up with a few groups of friends too. Hopefully traffic in the morning isn't too terrible.

I don't have any stupid glasses, and I can't find any place that has them (South Bend, IN area). The local library just laughed when I called and asked if they had any left. I assumed I'd be able to get some on Amazon -- that didn't pan out. I'll be trying to find a shade 12 or greater welding lens. I'm hoping one of my industrial customers have one.

I'll be outside between teaching 3 different Physiology sections in Bloomington, IN. The annulus is what pretty much everyone is excited about, but the oncoming darkness and what it does to quiet the birds and bugs will be equally cool to me.
