OT-But she started it!

Submitted by MGoFoam on

Remember the incoming Texas Tech freshman football player who got thrown out of school for punching out the women's basketball star while running buckets? Now she admits to having started it so she gets suspended from playing for the month of November. It sounds like what he did was considerably more egregious, but there sure is a disparity in the punishments. Of course, she also feels bad about the whole deal, "did not represent the double T...."

Can someone please post the Manziel cocaine in Vegas bathroom story? I'm on the road, on my phone.

I agree with his punishment. He assaulted her, broke her face as I recall. But I'm curious what "first contact" entailed that got him so riled up.

I agree with the punishment he got but also agree with the people who think she should have been disciplined more. Not sure what the right amount is but just a month seems kinda light. Of course we don't know the details of how she "initiated contact".

situation is unacceptable no matter the gender. That is what my dad taught me.

However, his dad, my Marine/former puligist grandfather, told me to stand up for myself even if that meant using your fists.

This mixed message really is an indication of two people who grew up in different eras and places. My grandfather grew up in Youngstown, Ohio during the Depression whereas my dad grew up in suburban Detroit in the 50's. Both Midwest, but fundamentally different places and times.

What I have done  as an adult is  to synthesize the two messages. I stand up for myself, but not with my firsts. I have a big mouth and I use it. As a result I have not struck anyone since I was in 7th grade.

I think a person has to be able to stand by themselves in order to make it in this world, but this very rarely requires violence. A smart person uses their intellect first before employing the fists.

The only thing that has changed with this revelation is that two idiots have been punished, not just the one.  Just because someone talked a bit to you doesn't justify punching that person in the face.
