OT: shanahan makes it official...
brendan shanahan made it official today that he is retiring after 21 years in the NHL. he was one of the best power forwards to ever play in the NHL and helped the wings win their first cup in 42 years, which was also his 1st. i would also like to thank him for taking out roy in the "fight"...

I thought you were going to say Mike Shanahan decided to coach somewhere.

I'll never forget how Yzerman tackled him after he scored the goal that iced the Cup in 2002...
Yzerman tackled him so hard, that Stevie made his own nose bleed.

Hall of fame in my book. He is borderline. I love and still wear my #14 Wings jersey.

Good player, fit perfectly with the Scotty Bowman system. And on a personal note, I dated a chick in college who was your classic redhead Irish girl, didn't like hockey much. But being that Shanny was Irish and for some reason his playoff beard made her hot under the collar so much that when Shanny scored in the playoffs, so did I. Those long Stanley Cup runs were great for a number of reasons.
God Bless Brendan Shanahan.

Always will be one of my favorites because he would score and kick your butt in the same game. Shanahan, you are a good and great man.

Don't believe I've seen that.
I loved Shanny. Loved him. Was THE missing piece the Wings needed to get them over the hump.
Hope he sports a Wings jersey when he goes to the Hall. And he should.

I was really sad when he left the wings a few years ago. I still remember when they played that irish jig when he scored. Great, great player. I hope he makes the hall.

One of the NHL players I tried to emulate while playing hockey as a kid. Great player, and a great teammate. This was after his Wings days, but while playing for the Rangers in a game against the Caps, Donald Brashear had taken some cheap shots at Rangers players. Shanny stepped up and dropped the gloves with him. Unreal...

We'll miss you, Shanny!
