I took a glance at some U of L boards for procrastination reasons. There are people suggesting that Kentucky and Nike planted Bowen to take down U of L and Pitino's legacy. I'm sure it's a small small fraction of U of L fans that think this, but the fact that there are any is unbelievable (and amusing).

It's a shame.

He gone.

He had to keep up with Cal at UK and all that NIKE money.

This is happening everywhere. Root cause is the stupid one and done rule.

I just hope Pitino isn't the only head to roll. It's obvious MSU had money ont he table for Bowen. Every school that gets these one and done kids should be investigated.

This has been going on for quite a while.

I lived in Lexington while Pitino was coach at UK. To call him a "Sleazebag" is actually a compliment. He had his fingers in several local businesses, housed the team in a separate "Wildcat Inn" or some such near the old field house ---where if a textbook actually appeared it was by accident --- knocked up some young woman, and in general conducted himself as the nefarious, under-the-table operator he was. It'd be interesting to learn the real details of that 10-year Adidas contract, and whether any part of it went into Pitino's pockets.

Back when Bill Martin was in the process of hiring a new BB coach and actually considered Pitino for the job, I wrote Bill a long letter giving several reasons why Pitino should never be associated with the University of Michigan. Not that my letter changed any minds, but Bill did end up hiring Tommy Amaker instead --- not the greatest BB coach in the world, but insofar as I could tell, an honest guy who ran a clean program.

All this recent kickback crap just underscores how thankful we should be for the BB coach and the program we now have. Go Blue.

I know that the NCAA has never recognized the runner up when the winner vacates something.  Thus Michigan won't get their own banner.  But how about this proposal:

Michigan hangs up the banner that Louisville had to take down.  Just put it right up there, maybe put a maize & blue asterisk on it - 2013 National Champs in Louisville colors.  We can even offer some money to Louisville to buy it off of them - we know they take money now.

Kids (and their parents) who want/need to get paid are going to get paid. Until the NBA changes their eligibility rules we may see an uptick in players heading to Europe or China for that first year out of high school. That mom who's "like...we need our fucking money" isn't sending her son to play for Beilein.

I know this is unprecedented, but Michigan should really claim the 2013 National Championship. Played the title against a team that was paying HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS illegally to players, and subsequently (could) get the death penalty. If anyone had a case to declare a title after a loss it's that 2013 team.

I think there would be little driving force for that to happen. The NCAA is made up of member schools and fewer apparel companies competeing for the contracts does not benefit the member schools. And what about the precedent set? If Nike and UA get burned by this investigation too, are all schools going to be switching to Russell Athletic?

There is now some confirmation that at least Tom Jurich has lost his job as of this morning and I am quite sure it will not end there. One can only assume that Pitino is next, and indeed, he did fail to answer questions as he left the practice facility - there's video of that, in fact.

I don't think Rick understands the world of hurt that is coming his way.

This is not an NCAA investigation where the worst they can do is tell you to vacate some wins.

Rick's statements of ignorance are going to be turned against him by the feds if he doesn't come clean right away.  The feds love it when dummies try to proclaim innocence publicly becuase it only gives them more to work with. I think he needs a lawyer to tell him to shut the hell up and stop commenting on this case publicly.  He won't so this should be super fun to watch.

It's interesting to see the Nike school people on twitter thinking that their school is somehow insulated because it appears to be an Adidas scandal.   Lost in the flurry yesterday was that Adidas employee Merl Code (ironically sounds like Moral Code) ran Nike basketball camps until recently.   He is probably the guy to watch.  If he flips to state's evidence shit's gonna get real.
