OT: Rice Owl 0-3 and No Mcguffie

Submitted by Wolverine Junkie on
As the Michigan running back have been going crazy, I just help but think how Sam Mcguffie would have looked in our current back field. Looking at the Rice website they are 0-3 and Mcguffie has not played yet does anyone know if he had to sit this year?

Looking through the Rice pages, I can't find anything say he's made the team, or even trying out anymore. The article that I had seen is no longer available through the Houston Chronicle. If I find a way to access it, or if I hear anything, I'll find a board thread to drop it in. I agree that he'd have to be pretty good to make the team. He may be trying out for nothing more than a base stealer/defensive replacement. I'm not sure how much baseball he's done in the last few years.

Brown and Minor both had injury issues a season ago, which is precisely why McGuffie got so much playing time. Minor is unquestionably their #1 back right now but he's essentially missed two games already and another one this weekend seems likely. Yes, he played the entire game against ND but he played very little against Eastern. They need Minor healthy and badly. But he can't help them much if his ankle continues to be an ongoing problem. I hope they do sit him this weekend. Brown and Co. are more than capable of handling the load. So McGuffie would have probably been the #2 back for three of the four games to start the season. There's a chance he could've been the #1 back in 2010 after Minor and Brown left.

I think Mcguffie was behind shaw as well, but shaw got banged up. Mcguffie would have been at least the 3rd RB right now and with Shaw healthy I'm not sure he would even be ahead of him. Honestly I like the way Smith runs over Mcguffie. Mcguffie never lived up to his youtube hype.

Especially when you consider he didn't have much help around him in the backfield. He spent most of the 2008 season running for his life and taking a lot of big shots. I would venture to guess that he'd be in a much better position to be successful this season with a real QB, an improved O-Line, and another offseason in the Barwis death camp.

I just hope all turns out well for McGuffie. Combination of home sickness and family issues contributed to his transfer. He would have been a good RB for us and a great slot WR. Good luck McGuffie.

Would have been the best post ever if you didn't hypothesize him sitting out and instead said something like "Ha, he can't get on the field at Rice! Sayanara!" Alas, Musket more than made up for the hilarity you deprived us of.

made me believe...that somewhere inside of me...I could jump high as a white man. However, that reality is buried underneath some bacon cheeseburgers and beers....and some pizza.

Holy crap! If he's playing 3 sports he must have alot of time on his hands. At the collegiate level it would be next to impossible to play 3 sports. There's no down time at all for him.
