The Detroit News article is full of some head scratchers:

Investigators believe Denno's phone contained information relevant to the leak, including possible evidence that would refute the allegations about a trustee leaking Tracy's name to the media, according to the report. His phone also may shed light on how a person outside of MSU, who refused to be interviewed, became aware of the investigation before the USA Today story was published and whether they disclosed information to the media, according to the report.

But the report states: "We do not have reason to believe Trustee Denno’s phone contains evidence suggesting that a Trustee knew of or leaked Tracy’s identity to anyone outside the University."

Also, the article says:

However, investigators did find that someone associated with the MSU Board of Trustees leaked a statement from Tracy's attorney, Karen Truszkowski, about a trustee being behind the leak of Tracy's name to the State News, MSU's student newspaper. They were unable to determine which of the 12 people who received the draft statement — the eight trustees, the board secretary, Interim President Teresa Woodruff, Woodruff's chief of staff and MSU spokesperson Emily Guerrant — leaked it.

Wow. The investigators were able to determine the draft statement was leaked by someone at MSU to the State News? The statement that the State News published the day it was leaked to them and provided by someone at MSU? Amazing detective work, there.

These people came up with literally nothing in their investigation.

It is possible the reason they can't find evidence that MSU leaked the name, though, is because maybe MSU didn't leak the name.

I wouldn't want people going through my personal shit and I haven't done anything illegal or immoral.

Nevertheless, given that all the other Trustees cooperated, of course that's suspicious. That's why I said what was in the DetNews (that the investigators didn't think his phone would actually reveal that a Trustee leaked info) was a head scratcher.

Here's what the USA Today story says:

Investigators said that while they did not have reason to believe Denno’s phone could prove a trustee leaked Tracy’s identity, they believe it may contain evidence that a person outside MSU, "Individual A," knew details of the case before they became public. But Denno and Individual A both refused multiple interview requests, the report said.

So, for reasons that are unexplained by any reports (and therefore I assume unexplained by the investigators), Jones Day believes that Denno's phone would show that "Individual A" knew all about it.

Who is Individual A, why does Jones Day believe they know anything or that what they know is on Denno's phone? No idea.

But even if they could prove that Individual A texted Denno and said, "Guess what I heard!" and then laid out the details about Tracy, that still wouldn't show a leak FROM State nor a leak TO the media.

If we piece this together with Truszkowski's statement (the draft one that she never publicly released and was only made public it was leaked to the State News), then one would assume Truszkowski believes that Denno leaked it to Individual A and Individual A leaked it to the media. But Jones Day is saying they don't think that's what the phone would show.

For those Fast Times at Ridgemont High fans out there, MSU's explanation would be as comical as one of the movie scenes - IF it really didn't happen at East Landfill.

Spicoli crashes Jefferson's brand new Camaro.

J's little bro says: my brother's gonna shit, my brother's gonna kill us, my brother's gonna shit

Spicoli replies: make up your mind, is your brother gonna shit or is he gonna kill us?

J's little bro: first he's gonna shit, then he's gonna kill us

Jones Day is one of the most respected (and expensive) law firms out there. WTF????

They can't even make up their mind as to what happened.

Wow!
