OT- MGoBloggers move the needle in Ohio license plate slogan campaign
So I was online reading up on a man who got run over at an intersection a half mile from my old stomping grounds, and I noticed a link regarding the results of the "Choose our license plate slogan" campaign Ohio put on recently. Here's some highlights of the article:
But some were downright mean and surely won't make the final cut, such as "Worst State Ever," "O-Lie-O" and 81 votes for phrases containing the word "sucks." You get the picture.
and...
And then there is Ohio State. There were more than 2,000 votes for slogans mentioning the university, including "The Ohio State University," "Go Bucks," and "OH-IO," the chant often associated with the Columbus school. But about half of the OSU-related suggestions referenced the school's embarrassing recent NCAA scandal, including "Free tattoos." Terrelle Pryor, the former OSU quarterback who left the school in 2010 amid scandal, pulled in nearly 800 votes from fans or haters, many of whom cannot spell his first name -- there were seven different variations. And then there was Pryor's coach, Jim Tressel, who was booted from the school and subsequently punished by the NCAA over the same issue. Tressel received only 16 votes, far fewer than the football program's most popular coach ever, Woody Hayes, who reeled in 656 votes. Even Hayes' arch-nemesis, Bo Schembechler, former coach of That School Up North, got 225 votes. Go figure.
Great job everyone. Heres the link if anyone wishes to read further (athough theres really not much reason)

Hahaha, imagine if they'd end up with "Bo-HI-O !"

Are they sure that the votes that couldn't spell Terrelle Pryor's name didn't come from Terrelle Pryor?

@the OP: There is some reason to click the link - it has a feature at the bottom of the article where you can enter in your own slogan and see it previewed on the Ohio license plate. (I put in the topical, if not entirely accurate, entry "I take poops in the bathroom")

I'm still shocked my submission wasn't mentioned - "Those Who Leave Will Be Champions"

1) Happy Easter!
2) We have that lake that starts on fire!
How "Happy Easter" was not already submitted and leading the competition, I have no idea.

The Cuyahoga River. Funny though.

And your avatar suggest that you may have had the aptly named Burning River beer...

I knew something didn't sound right about that.
Wait, a free-flowing RIVER started on fire? Wow. I thought it seemed more possible with a lake, or, pond. I'm gonna have to look this up.
Thanks much

Being back in Ohio now, the slogan means little to me. What I would like to see, though it will probably never happen, is allowing Ohio residents to purchase a license plate with the block M on it. They allow you to purchase license plates with various images support Ohio colleges (Ohio and Cincinnati are the most common).

That would make sense. If visiting my family in Toledo has taught me anything it's that there are a ton of Michigan fans in north Ohio. and sadly that my great uncle got burried in some OSU gear, it was all me and my dad could do to not burst out into "the Victors" at the wake.

No offense but thats the whole point of the University License plate scheme, part of your yearly tab renewals goes back to the school. The state of Ohio is not going to support a Michigan based school using what is essentially tax revenue.

we could pay them in free tattoos

Texas does it per this article - surprised that sparty would be getting plates before Michigan, though. Found an article at Purdue that lists what states they have plates and which states have said no. Looks like Maryland has U of M plates - anyone know of other states out there? I won't hold my breath for Ohio plates (plus, their special plate prices are way too high).

In Tennessee you can get any school you want...as a matter of fact each county apparently gets plates of the teams that were ordered the year before because every year I ask if they have a Michigan one. I always get the same reponse, I know we have a Michigan St. one to which I respond not even close to the same thing. I guess my magnets, antenna topper and window stickers will have to suffice. Special plate prices are really high here too, which is the reason I haven't ordered one.

sparty is a national program, didnt you hear?

In Illinois, you can request a specialty license plate and have it produced if the state receives at least 1500 orders. For out-of-state colleges, the additional restrictions are that the school must have at least 10,000 alumni living in the state and that the school must be private. $25 of the license plate fee goes to scholarships for Illinois students to that school. Hence, the only out-of-state specialty plate in Illinois is for notre dame.
Don't know what the restrictions are for Ohio, but if it is allowed and enough people purchase it, a U-M license plate could provide some benefits to Ohio residents who want to pursue an education at "that school up north."

but they have 20+ collegiate license plates available and none are for out-of-state schools, private or public.

I swear I voted for Bo more than 225 times.

This is absolutely hilarious. We are awesome.

I love that- definitely voted for Terelle Pryor and googled his name to make sure I spelled it right. I was shocked that even google had it wrong. The proper spelling is derived from a latin sub category which sounds like Bitch- o' wait it is bitch.

I prefer the classic 1990s plates: The "Heart of it All!" edition. The bicentennial plates were awful and they can't go away soon enough. The ones that combined city and countryside with a big ol' red barn and a distant skyline were slightly better.
I feel for those poor people in Indiana stuck with those "In GOD we trust" plates. Seems a little one-size-fits-all for my spiritual tastes.

Virginia offers UM plates. This pic was snapped going down the road near Norfolk, VA, just a couple days before the game against tSiO. Go Blue!!!

Nice color combination and I appreciated them coming out with this design right after the '71 game.
