OT: Lots of Pelini to Purdon't chatter
Lots of chatter that Bo Pelini is interested in the Purdue job.
http://247sports.com/Article/The-Purdue-Boilermakers-should-do-their-di…
As Purdue shops around for a head coach — the Boilermakers fired Darrell Hazell and his 9-33 record on Sunday — it’d be smart to remember that one Bo Pelini is eager to get back to the Big Ten.
“He would definitely be interested in this job,” a source who coached under Pelini told 247Sports this week. “I think he would make a more immediate impact more than any other guy I believe. He would change that culture real quick.”
Purdue could do worse.
They might not be able to do much better. (I can't see Les Miles taking that job).
Having Pelini back in the B10 would be fun and it would be a good hire that would create some buzz for the Boilermakers

He had a problem swearing and freaking out with his perpetually 9-4 Nebraska teams. Can you imagine the potty mouth on this guy if he has to coach a bunch of awful players at Purdue? He's gonna blow a O-ring...
October 18th, 2016 at 7:00 PM ^
Can you imagine the pedestal they'll build were he to oversee perpetual 9-4 seasons at Purdue? The last time Purdue had three consecutive nine win seasons was almost 40 years ago. They've only had three nine win seasons since then, and only one this century.

If 9-4 was the best he could do at Purdue, then the chances of him doing it at Purdue are 100% ;)

Michigan spread it's seed to Maryland
OSU spread it's seed to Rutgers
Nebraska spread it's seed to Purdue
We could do much worse!
PS: IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SEEDING!!!!!

They don't fill the place up but give them a .500 team and I would bet the stadium fills up most games.
I hope Bo goes just so he can sneak in an OSU upset or two.

I went to the 2012 game over there. The most amazing thing: the parking structures were free! Or at least, the one I parked in was. They are foregoing a good chunk of money doing that.
Pelini seems like about as good as hire as they can get - a coach with Power 5 experience who put up a pretty nice record.
October 18th, 2016 at 6:44 PM ^
I don't know if it's still the case, but the most amazing thing in the games I've gone to there was in/out privileges. If you didn't park super far you could go to your car at the half for a beer. Or to walk your dog (which my cousin did). And then come back to the stadium early in the 3rd. Only college games I've ever been to that allowed it.
October 19th, 2016 at 11:02 AM ^
Maybe if they charge for parking, they won't even get half-capacity?
October 19th, 2016 at 10:15 PM ^
...was at Purdue in '77. Place was packed.
Then a front moved through, the temperature dropped about 30 degrees and Michigan got up by four scores and it wasn't packed any more.
But you're right. Back when they were winning they had no trouble filling their stadium.

Purdue isn't burdened by zany Nebraska-sized expectations. 8-4 annually gets them sniffing November games in Indy - perfectly acceptable in West Lafayette.

I could see the good Chicago players going there. Solid education and close to home. Winning helps. You don't need a tradition, just a decent coach on a winning streak.

I mean....he could make them a respectable 6-6 most years I would think. If Purdue has hopes of being a power though then they are in trouble.

I remember putting the hurt on Drew Brees during the 1999 monsoon. Of course he opted to stay at Purdue for an additional year to return the favor.
October 18th, 2016 at 7:32 PM ^
There was precipitation. It wasn't a monsoon, or even particularly heavy. Fun game, though.
