OT - Lions win as Todd Gurley makes similar mistake as the PSU RB

Submitted by Blue in Paradise on October 25th, 2020 at 4:20 PM

Gurley could have gone down on the 1 yard line with a minute left and the Lions has no timeouts remaining.

It isn’t as bad as Penn State since the Falcons would have still had to hit a chip shot FG but an NFL kicker makes that 99/100 tries.

Anyway, Lions doing the annual ritual of getting out hopes back up before they rip our hearts out again.

Thank you for acknowledging that the Falcons are the Lions of the NFL!

I keep saying that everytime Michigan-centric people on Twitter or wherever call some team in some other sport "the Lions of..." I'm like aren't the Falcons much more likely to blow a lead?

I guess I'm suffering from recency bias, where they're talking historically?!

Haha, I just saw the ending and you are exactly right. The Leo’s will rope us back in just to crush our souls in weeks 15,16,17,18,19.

The life of a Lions “fan”... sigh.

Losing that right at the end with a runoff or missing the extra point due to the penalty call would have been typical.

Stay in character, Lions.

Incredibly stupid coaching by the Falcons. How do these guys get paid millions to screw up the most basic decisions? It’s mind-boggling.

Just saw the clip & think it was pretty funny. A Lion DB had Gurley wrapped up after he broke through the line, then let him go. Gurley surged forward, then stopped & dropped, but part of the ball did just cross the plane. LOL.

Also, LOL: Lions further separating themselves from the bottom of the league.

They’ll win just enough games so Patricia can keep his job, and they’ll be drafting low enough to where they won’t be able to get any real difference maker in the first round.

At least the rest of the team is somewhat off the hook. Audio indicates Ryan reminded Gurley rather emphatically to get down if he got the first down. The stumble is almost as if he was thinking about it, but decided Ryan was full of it. The coach said something about Gurley being the wrong player to use in that situation, which is interesting to think about given what the mistake was.

Any NFL playbook is so complex that there really aren't many stupid people coaching or playing. Gurley though, for all his talent, made a rather expensive blunder.
