OT: Lions hang NFL Champions, playoff appearance banners before game
Just saw this come across my twitter feed. Apparently before player introductions, the Lions unveiled NFL Champions banners from 1935, 1952, 1953 & 1957. Division championship banners from 1935, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1957, 1983, 1991 and 1993.
And the strange thing is they unveiled playoff appearance banners. Here is the one from last year. I think that is kind of......sad. Participation banners. Ouch.

This is like hanging your report card on the refrigerator and it has a bunch of Ds and Fs. Sad really

Good to see the Lions pissing the bed today. Stafford is in a shell this entire second half aiming everything instead of throwing.

It doesn't help that they're dropping everything under the sun, either.

If you're going to do it, It is a nice touch to match the logo used at the time with the appearances. It makes me sad that my favorite Lions logo doesn't get a banner.

After the "Curse of Bobby Layne," which was probably just an astute prediction by Layne that WCF, who had just traded Layne, would screw up the Lions for fifty years, the Lions need to remember that they were once one of the two or three best franchises in the NFL.
I'm all for anything that might help reinstall a winning attitude in the Lions.

and am glad they hung up the Champ. banners, but the banners just for making the playoffs???...that's weak.

It only took him 49 years to get around to hanging these banners.

Did they really hang up ones for other years besides just 2011?. I know there are the banners with the years they made the playoffs which isn't too uncommon. I am pretty sure other teams and organizations have done similar things. I know Indiana Hoosiers hangs up banners with various years of accomplishments such as Sweet 16 appearences.

Is there really such a difference between a playoff banner and a Wild Card Pennant in baseball? Especially when a divisional champ can have a 9-7 record, the equivalent of an 85-game winner in baseball? I don't think it's that sad, especially when the bar is as low as it is to win a division against three other teams.

should have their own individual banner for each year.
