OT - Last football free weekend...what are your plans?

Submitted by canzior on

This is the last weekend until February with no (meaningful) football.  Anyone have fun plans?  Wives/GF's taking advantage of the official end of summer?  I think I'll be spending time with my girlfriend's new niece, watching chick flicks, and drinking whatever wine she told me that I like.  Also, I expect to be in church and at brunch, somewhere in DC on Afternoon.

LOL I'll admit I'm not much of an OL teacher when it comes to technique. I can draw up schemes that get our lineman on the right guy.. But teaching them how to block is NOT my forte. I carried the ball 70% of the time when I played. No time for blocking LOL.

Traditionally, my last football-free weekend is spent finalizing the logistics for weekends with football. If you have kids, sometimes this is not easy, but we're more or less set for the season with who is watching who and how various games will work out for us.

If my yard gets a chance to dry out, I may need to take care of that as well. It's typically Michigan when for weeks, you have no reason to mow it in its half-dead state, and then you get about seven inches of rain in one week and the yard refuses to dry out.

The wife and I will be making the trip from Cincinnati to Chicago to visit some friends and catch a Cubs game. Good food and drink will be had. Return to Cincinnati on Sunday, and then we'll head up to Michigan on the following Friday to prepare for tailgating.

...too little time:

Build a deck

Finish a basement bathroom

Put all basement stuff back into storage

Get house ready for out of town guests

Tune up tailgate gear

Since it is the last weekend before our kids go back to school, we'll try to do something as a family . . . maybe go to the beach, maybe 6 Flags again, maybe the pool, maybe a bonfire Sunday night. Kyle has football practice every day this week from 6 - 8:30pm, plus scrimmage on Saturday, so between chores, football, church, and life, I don't know we'll be able to do much else.

Be nice. As it is, most of our plans are settled:  she takes two to 6 Flags tomorrow, back in time for football practice the next two nights, pep rally Saturday, then on Sunday church, football pictures, brunch, scrimmage, bonfire, games, to bed for her first day back to work and kid's first day of school Monday. Full weekend.

Golf and fantasy football draft.  I am about to pop my FF cherry; I don't generally dont like cheering for players on teams other than the Lions but I'm not dumb enough to draft all Detroit players either.  I'll just have to be ok with Aaron Rodgers lighting up the Lions again this year.

I'll be in Michigan Stadium for the VIP practice day. Mind you I'm not a VIP,  just a newbie usher. Hopefully I'll be on the field like I was for sUTL. If so, maybe I'll give my impressions of what transpired on Sun. morn. Not much of an expert on OL play but I'll keep my eye on them.

Relaxing at home before starting my senior year in Ann Arbor. My god does it go fast... I'm very envious of the few of you who are about to move in for freshman year. The first welcome week is something I'll definitely never forget.

Mostly I'm just incredibly excited for my last football season as a student to kick off. I need about seven more home wins to make my college experience complete.

Being from PA, I will be saying goodbye to all my high school buddies who will be heading to PSU and then getting packed to make my way up to AA for my first welcome week as a student.

Good timing for one before Saturdays are sacred.  A perfect non football weekend also would be golfing, range, motorcycle ride or maybe I'll just day drink and pass out early.
