OT: JT Daniels, USC QB, out for the season

Submitted by 1VaBlue1 on September 1st, 2019 at 9:21 PM

He tore the ACL and meniscus, so is out for the season.  We've had lots of speculation about Clay Helton keeping his job after this season.  Without his 5-star QB, does he even have half a chance of keeping it?  I don't know who the backup QB is, but I've thought for a long time that Helton was done after this year.  Meyer must be deleting some texts to make space for all the phone calls that Lynn Swan will be making...

Meyer and Smith didn’t have a falling out.  The falling out was with Urban and Smith with Drake.   I get the “Urban wants a lightweight AD” thoughts but the reality is any good coach knows you need a strong AD to partner with and USC has a nobody.   I am 100% sure Urban isn’t going to USC but that’s just my opinion.....although I’d be willing to bet a Mgobeer on it.

Predictions on Urban’s salary at USC?

I’m thinking 5 years / 7.5 million... obviously with incentives.

Honest question though... if Urban becomes the next USC Trojan head coach... how many (if any at all) current Buckeyes enter the transfer portal to play for him? And who does he poach coordinator and assistant coach wise?

I think Swan will give him whatever he wants.  If Swan is smart (he's not), he won't try saving a few bucks.  I'm not sure the USC job will attract the top tenured coaches from elsewhere.  Well, not with Swan as AD, anyway...

I wouldn’t doubt that most USC diehards are giddy about this.  They want Helton out, and this helps the cause.  Plus, Daniels preserves a year of eligibility for the next coach.

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks Urban would never go to USC. UF to OSU was an upgrade. OSU to USC is a downgrade. I think Urban is done.

The only way he's not done is if OSU forced him to 'retire' due to the various issues from last year. But, I'm not 100% sold OSU would actually do that.

I feel like USC is not as great of a job as people make it out to be. Sure it's got a lot of talent around it, but the area will always lean towards pro sports unless the team is really good. It's not a college football crazy school. Pete Carroll did awesome there, but he was like their 3rd choice at the time behind Dennis Erickson and Mike Bellotti.

USC lucked out getting 'stuck' with a candidate further down the list, he was exactly what they needed to get people excited and interested in USC's program.  Not just on the west coast, but the east as well.  Meyer doesn't have the charisma that Carroll had, but the name recognition and general success should compensate.

He had a bad year last year. And now this this year. Hoping he can recover and get back on his horse next season.

As far as for Clay Helton, the schedule is very tough. There's no let up until November 16 against Cal.

The artist formally known as the fighting rich rods lost their opener to Hawaii. I bet that is a win for USC.

Speaking of which, and not to get too far off track, but Mississippi unveiled their new offense with their new offensive coordinator and did it go horribly!
