OT - I HATE Zumaya

Submitted by jokenjin on
Seriously - how many more games is this man going to cost us before we dump him? C'mon.

dump him...i'd say make him pitch in non-important situations. Seriously, million dollar arm...about a 10 cent brain. Did he seriously throw a change up right down the middle when he was blowing fastballs by him? Stick to the fastball and curves. Unreal.

Texas' pitcher throwing heat and the LSU batter is real late in extra innings with a runner on third and 2 outs. He hangs a change and that's the game. You ever think that maybe the catcher is at fault for the pitch call. ZoomZoom can shake him off or maybe he thought it was a good idea too.

Man, I wish i could remember the stat, but i was listening (yes listening) to a mets ball game, and the announcer mentioned that when a pitcher shakes off the catcher, the majority of the time the pitch to follow is a fastball. Anyway, really though guys, HATE? Hating a baseball player? Really? He's better this year in as many innings, than he was last year (with respect to walks + hits)

you do know that a catcher calls the pitches right? just checking. i knew you knew that. the problem is most young guys don't feel comfortable shaking off the sign given by the catcher. so cut him a lil slack, if anything blame him for not shaking off the catcher.

Yeah, Zumaya is really frustrating to watch. He has great stuff and should be a dominant pitcher, but makes way too many mistakes to be a solid late inning pitcher. I really like him in the role he's in, but, despite his still solid stats, he really is a liability in the 8th inning and probably can't keep his role for much longer. I don't know what the Tigers can do with him, as I don't think they can trade him, but changing his role with someone else's may be necessary. Go Tigers, time for a 9th inning comeback!

If you have a 100mph fastball, a 85mph "Change" is never a good decision. It just looks like a gift.

He's our version of Todd Jones. The moment he threw out his first pitch this season I let out an obscenity. His motion looks like he's throwing BP...which he does IMO. What bugs me the most is when Marmol is "on" he gets pulled because he's the setup man so we can nervously watch our closer struggle to get 3 out (Wood in 08 or Gregg 09) Board topic should read, "I LOVE GREGG"

Really wish I was at the ballpark tonight to laugh at all the bandwagon Cubs fans in their brand-new Cubs gear. Actually then again tonight's result probably what they wanted...the first crushing loss of their Cubs fandom!! What a great story to tell at their next 80's night!! Instead I'll just settle for laughing at the OP of this thread....

How little brotherish of you to hate on them because of they have bandwagon fans and now stumbled against your team. "Then again tonight's result probably what they wanted" and bandwagon fans don't jive. If they're truly bandwagon fans then they don't care about the loss; they'll just leave to follow a more popular team.

He is a wonderful talent, who we should help nurture. While agree with many of the posters that he should not have thrown the changeup given the anecdotal evidence earlier in the at bat, a properly-thrown change up would have worked. He just hung it, and the fact that he has the ability to get 20 MPH of separation will make that pitch deadly if he ever masters throwing it with sinking motion out of the same arm slot. I do also root for the Cubs, and I can tell you that Hoffpauer (sp?) is an amazing fastball hitter for a young guy.

Hoffpauir is not a great 105 (that is a joke by the way) fastball hitter nor a great looping cuirve hitter. He can however blast changeups right down the middle into rthe right field bleachers. As a Cubs fan Kevin Gregg is eerily familiar to Mr. Tood Blowns.

The guy can shoot fireballs. Yeah he walks people occasionally and tonight he left one floating in the strike zone but he's only got one loss on the year so far. Also, Ryan Raburn is awesome.

It's easy to say this now, but hopefully this is a major lesson for Joel. He's got the stuff - the curve actually looked nice tonight - he just needs to learn how to pitch smarter.

It's a long season guys. All season we've been complaining about how the Tigers pitching is carrying the offense. Now the Tigers offense bails out the pitching for once, and somehow this is a big problem? It was an awesome win, we're in first place, let's accentuate the positives here...

Zumaya is better than half the relievers in the league at least. People are on him because he "should be" better than them all. That's just crazy. Plus, he is the following: A: A great clubhouse presence. B: A Huge fan favorite. C: Terrifying to opposing batters. That said, I think he flourished the most when relieving for somebody like Kenny Rogers in 2006. When you've been timing yourself to 80 MPH finesse pitches all game, you can't reclock to a 104 MPH fastball in two innings.

if zoomer hadn't grooved that pitch and let up the HR, then Rayburn wouldn't have been able to hit the walk-off. And the walk-off was awesome. So overall, it was for the best. He's not the uber dominating OMG UNHITTABLE closer a lot of us hoped he would become, but he's a solid pitcher who can come in late in games and throw 100 MPH. That's a valuable thing to have in the pen.

As nice as the walk-off homer was, I'd have preferred that we hung on so E-Jax could get the win. Sure, he had 4 walks (in 7 innings), but man, I love the toughness that guy has. He is fearless.
