OT: I am now one of the Leaders and Best!
This is the greatest day of my life! I heard back from UM admissions today and was told that I'm in for fall of 2014! I've never felt such a great feeling in my life as when I clicked on the Admitted Students button at Umich.edu . I'll tell you guys now that I will be in the student section this year for all the games and will definitely be early and cheering my ass off. Go blue guys, and I've never been prouder than to finally be apart of the leaders and the best!

Bo's book on leadership? If not, highly suggested.

Do you wear red clothing and would you walk to Ann Arbor?
February 28th, 2014 at 12:14 PM ^
I'd walk to Ann Arbor on a broken leg....
February 28th, 2014 at 12:48 PM ^
Now that's just not smart.
February 28th, 2014 at 7:36 PM ^
you could hitch hike to and from Ann Arbor.
I guess thats frowned on these days.

how about a few points to this youngster's account, for the effort?
February 28th, 2014 at 11:11 AM ^
It isn't good enough to just be there, though. Get something done while you are there. Make it worth it. Remind yourself how many kids would kill to be in you shoes and take advantae of your opportunity. Not just to get the degree, but experience the culture of campus, volunteer doing something worthy (I volunteered at Project SAFEhouse, the UofM emergency room, with a program at local elementary schools, etc. and probably got more out of that than anything I learned in a classroom), go to lectures and speeches, and make sure you leave in 4-5 years a better person than you are now. That is the trick.

I have PTSD from Physics 140
February 28th, 2014 at 12:01 PM ^
That sounds very familiar.
Short story: When I was at USAFA, we had a core class, Thermo Dynamics. We affectionately called it "Thermo God-Dammit."

upvote to give here. I graduated in 2003 and my section lead was a guy name Uher - I think he was from somewhere in Eastern Europe... I remember on one of the first quizzes, I got a 21 - AND it was multiple choice with four answers per question. Could've marked C on them all and probably got a 25 or higher. After that I started to focus more on the social sciences and ended up with Econ & Poli Sci Majors - finally wised up. Those Chem/Physics people were/are too smart.

The questions would be things like
"What will the change in gravity in this hollow planet be compared to this other hollow planet?
a) +4G
b) +2G
c) -2G
d) -4G
It's awful. A class basically designed to toss logical grading (where you get partial credit the whole way) and just tries to find ways to move the bell curve down

Congratulations and welcome to the Michigan family!
Hopefully, your next four years are some of the best and most fulfilling of your life. As someone also said above, make good use of the time and many door will be open for you when you graduate.
As a gift in honor of the news, you have 1000 more points than you did a moment ago.

Stay out of trouble, study hard, and have fun! Before you know it, you will be an alum. Goes by wayyy too fast!

As well as a 5'11" 172lb student can.

You'll be up to 182 lbs in no time. South Quad dorm food will do that to you.
Congrats!

Congratulations.
My daughter is patiently waiting for a response.
February 28th, 2014 at 12:03 PM ^
Trust me, the waiting period is perhaps the most stressful period of time that I have ever experienced. Perhaps its just me, but I kept thinking that I made a mistake somewhere on the app and that's what held the response back. Needless to say, it has worked out for me now in the end, and I'm sure it will for her if she meets all the criteria. Thanks, and good luck to your family as well! Go Blue!

Did you apply Early Action?
February 28th, 2014 at 12:16 PM ^
No, I don't think so. I dropped off all the non-electronic requirements for the application in person at the Office of Undergrad Admissions on 01/30/2014 so I was a little ahead of the February Deadline.

Enjoy each and every moment. Join some organizations. Become absolutely passionate about something that really doesn't matter (other than football). Try and study some. Most of all recognize that you've got four years to have an absolutely amazing time, and ENJOY!

the greatest university community on Earth! Savor every moment of your time there and make it the best years of your life. My entire immediate family have all graduated (or will very soon like my oldest daughter) from Michigan and are thankful every day to be part of The Community. I'll hoist a tall one in your honor tonight!

Congratulations! As my recent UM graduate daughter found out, these next 4 years are going to race by. Stay humble and hungry, and good fortune will come your way. Experience all you can, and upon graduation JOIN THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION! Best of luck!

Back when I was in Ann Arbor from '87-'91. Congrats on getting in the school and being old school.
Stone Roses! Damn. I had you pegged for my same mid-40s demographic.
Never assume. Never assume.
Cheers.

Given the application numbers and the caliber of applicants, admission is a really big deal! Make us proud. Go Blue!

my man. '03 Alum here - best decision I ever made was to go to U of M. Got into MSU and EMU too, so it wasn't too hard of a choice but regardless - some of the best times of my life and I learned a ton. Work hard, party hard! Edit: When you are old enough - hit up the Brown Jug and have a beer for ol ChuckieWoodson (My friends and I kept that place in business from 2001-2003) 2nd Edit: This was before the days when they really checked ID's - so I was actually drinking there about 9 months before I turned 21 and knew all the bartenders. So I come in on my 21st bday and ask for my free shot. "Whaaaattttttt?????" (O_O)
